That emotion Dave showed was 100% real I remember reading about that concert being the first pop band to sell out a stadium

This is the song I liked the most when I was like 6. Then the casette broke, and I could listen to it 10 years later. As a child, I could understand the lyrics. But the thing that stayed in my mind during all those years is this incredibly powerful synth melody at the beginning. When as a child, you hear such power behind a melody, it haunts you. Even NLMDA wasn't at this level. Seriously, only a true masterpiece can mark someone at such a young age, when little really matters to you, and can stay in their head, without relistening to it, and this during an entire decade. A true masterpiece which only people with the finest taste can enjoy to the fulliest, can enjoy. This is why we listen to music, this is why we hear, this is the reason why we live.

Its crazy to think that songs im only just hearing now have been in people's homes for DECADES and have had soooo many memories attached to them! I feel like ive missed out to be honest 😭
18 in 1988. Had 1O1 on a loop on the car all night with a 20 yr old beauty, every week. Winter, spring, summer. Engraved on my soul.
Brings back the flood of emotions from when I attended the concert. What I’d give to go back and be there again!

I still prefer the Violation Tour, so bad we dont have any pro recording, because I think their voices, especially Gore's, sounds way better. Btw since Seph already reacted to Policy of Truth live Frankfurt 1990. Martin echoed voice at the end is just as good or even better than harmonisations in Stripped.
I have watched other reacting to Depeche Mode and none of them make me want to tune back into their channel. Your enthusiasm and your appreciation for such a great band brings a smile to my face and makes me want to catch each reaction. Thanks!!

@@SephPlays Just Can't Get Enough. I heard it on KROQ FM in Los Angeles in 1980 listening on my crappy transister radio. I became a fan in that moment. I went down to the record store the next day and bought "Speak and Spell".

@@SephPlays To be honest, at one point I didn't like one of the newer albums right away, I had to listen to it several times beofre I realized what a fantastic album it was, chock full of greatly writen music, Martin is a master songwriter and like a fine wine he gotter better with age. Now the newer stuff is some of my favorite.

I didn't know Martin was ALWAYS singing vocal parts in most of the songs up to this point. The odd one or 2 notes here and there. Crazy!!

I was too young to appreciate/go to this tour, but I watched my 101 VHS copy religiously once I hit high school. This performance is one of my all time faves and why so many of us love and miss Alan -- his creativity and musical genius! I LOVE that you pointed out the "instruments". In the 101 documentary Alan gives a demo of hitting these pads and I can only imagine what this sounded like in person. You can feel the atmosphere.
Its such a shame im not allowed to play the whole thing here on youtube in my part of the world "Due to copyright restrictions". But i still get to see the songs. So its not a complete loss!! 😊
If you were never on a DM concert you have to! It is a great party with friendly peole!!! it´s fun and smooth and just good. The people are helpful to each other it´s like a big family. I can´t explain that you have to excerience it.

That guy has an angelic voice!!
The shot at 2:23 when Martin joins Dave to sing the final "bone" of the first chorus and the smoke is swirling in the green spotlights is one of the most gorgeous moments of the film.
I agree, the final chorus when Dave and Martin are doing the call and response with "let me hear you speaking just for me" and "let me crying just for me" is very powerful.
And of course Alan and Martin hitting the pads to trigger the metal percussion is very cool.
Goosebumps everytime i listen to, and looking at, this live version of Stripped. Its beyond❤️
I was a teenage boy in 1989 when I first saw this one on the 101 Tour VHS tape and I became hooked on this band since. Thanks for your reaction vids :)

Literally every song on Live 101 is better played live than the album versions.
How does this make sense though!? Most bands or singers are the other way round. Especially in the 80s 90s 🤔
@@SephPlays Well, it's Depeche Mode, the best band in the world ! :-)) That would be the simplest answer. :-)) But there are many factors that add to this performance, Dave's voice was at it's peak, the analogue days are far better that "digital ones", the presence of Alan in the band, who was a genius and a perfectionist and who also added an extra vocal layer.. Some songs are performed with a more mature aproach, beter sounds, better vocals than in their beginings.

I love these videos! It's almost like hearing/seeing Depeche for the first time, through your eyes. (Dig the Clockwork Orange look, BTW. All you need is one fake eyelash.) The emotion on Dave's face was real. He said later that seeing that large of a crowd, by far the biggest they'd seen, was just overwhelming. If you ever see the 101 documentary, you can see Dave after the show just break down. This is one of the most important concerts of the "New Wave" era. It was the 80's electronic Woodstock. I think six other bands played before DM, including Thomas Dolby and the Pet Shop Boys. This happened to be the first tour that I saw them, my first year in high school. And yes, I do know how lucky I am. No time since has equaled it. On the stage, do you notice what's missing? There's no projection screens! Just the band, instruments, and lights. That's all you need. God I miss those days! DM makes me wish we could selectively suppress memories, so that everytime I heard a Depeche song, it would be as if it was for the first time.

Also i just want to say this, i honestly will never forget some of the smiles and expressions on daves face. I think it just makes him more "Relatable"? Some times you see these mega actors and singers showing little to no emotion on stage. Like they are only there for the money. But this concert honestly feels like they are your best friends putting on a show for you.. Ya know? Amazing!!! 😊

I have to say again how much I am loving these latest reactions. I was in the 'Violator next" camp but am really appreciating watching these performances through your eyes and reading people's comments.

"Stripped" was the first song I ever heard by them, the lyrics and the melody just drew me in and I've been a fan of theirs since. I was fifteen and it was the early 90s.
What you hear is one the highland mix of stripped. Alan produced all live songs back in the day.
You hear the sound of dave’s porsche 911 in the background 😊.
Back in in 1986 I didn't like Stripped at all. But a couple months later I heard Breathing In Fumes and was blown away, I loved it but didn't make the connection at first. When I found out it was "Stripped" I gave Stripped another chance and it became a favorite of mine and is probably my favorite DM song of all time.

I used to go and see the lads preform in the clubs of Essex England in front of crowds of about 100 people. I saw them 2 weeks ago at Twickenham England. Top performers. One of the biggest bands in the world.

Dave comentó después del concierto en Pasadena , una gira de 101 conciertos que ya no podían llegar más alto , que lo habían conseguido y se emocionó de llenar un estadio tan mítico como el Rose Bowl , por cierto yo los vi en Barcelona en esta gira con tan solo unas 5000 personas y lo dieron todo igualmente , me gusta como exprimes y analizas cada canción , enhorabuena por tu canal , que siga creciendo

I appreciate your reaction... Live version a million times better than studio. The studio versions are so clean and polished it's like they're naked and just out of the shower. The live versions put some stylish clothes on and they're ready to do the town!

@@SephPlays Maybe some of the hardcore "Devotees" don't like that I said that? Some people get very touchy about DM opinions as I'm sure you will see more of as you continue through the DM journey. Especially the end of the Alan Wilder era and introducing drums into their concerts.
Some extra data... The "instruments" as you called them are called pads. Alan Wilder said in an interview of the 101 film that are like extra keys for the synths/samplers and demostrates that hitting one of them is the same process as playing a key of the keboard, but the combination of playing the synth and doing some percussion stuff live is just amazing, a really good show!
Yeah they arent "instruments" haha more like random objects. This is why i love DM so much! They are so unique!
