Agreed!! Probs my fav DM song, I adore how the bass melody is just the same note just with the filter opening and closing, so simple but so much dynamic movement from just that! Praise be Alan Wilder 🙇
It truly is a masterpiece. For an album recorded in 1989-90, it sounds so ahead of its time and unique. I love it from start to end. There´s no weak point.
I can't explain it, but this song and CLEAN have always been favs. Seriously Martin Gore is one of the best writers of our time. It's amazing how a song is written but could be interpreted so many ways.
Right?? I see forbidden fruit, tension and karmatic resolution, others see the same thing as a song about cheating 😂 similar vibes but truly in the eye of the beholder, praise be Martin Gore 🙇
This is one of my Top 10 favorite songs. That killer bass, the driving beat, those gorgeous strings, the beautiful harmonies. It's dark, powerful, and somehow uplifting all that same time. Instrumentally this Alan's finest hour. I think both Martin and Alan provided harmony, but Martin I'm sure is the highest and most pronounced. There are two songs that I especially think should have been singles, this one and Photographic on Speak and Spell.
Friom the begining Halo has beeen one of my favoyurite songs of Depeche, so mysterious, powerful, original and sexy. Definitely one of their most underrated songs
Halo is one my favorites song from Depeche Mode. Soooo dark, sexy & beautiful at the same time. Dave's voice sounds like velvet in this song. ♥️🖤♥️🖤♥️🤘🤘🤘
My favourite Song of all time, it's so dark and epic. The lyrics hit hard and at the same time it sounds so pleasing with the Depeche vibe and classical sounds at the end The next one will probably catch you off guard but Waiting for the Night is so haunting yet so pleasingly calm
I love this song, too and only 2 songs ahead their masterpiece is waitimg for you. When I first heard „enjoy the silence“ on a German TV show a few weeks before the single was released I was totally flashed and suffered a lot until I was able to buy the single. I immediately knew that this was going to be a huge hit and I was right.
I have been a DM fan for about 35 years now. You cannot even imagine how many times I listened to their songs. I have never ranked them, but I love your rankings. Yes Halo is absolutely stunning and can't get bored with it. You are right it is not mainstream. I never heard it on the radio. The ones on the radio are Just Can't Get Enough, Personal Jesus, Enjoy The Silence and Strangelove.
And People are People... up to this time frame. My opinion is the only really "poppy" ones of the bunch are Just Can't Get Enough and People are People. I really don't find Personal Jesus to be mainstream. DM fan since People Are People, heard it on the radio in 1984
@@TalkTimeVault Hello there, your name suggests you may be Slovak or Hungarian. Doesn´t matter. I am a fan since Sept. 1988. A classmate lent me a tape. On one side was Duran Duran and on the other side was Black Celebration. And I was hooked.

prepare, because in 2 songs there's going to be Enjoy the Silence, and that is essentially the defining song of Depeche Mode. I have big anticipation for your reaction to EtS. ^ - ^
I have to say your channel is one of my favorites that I discovered recently. I grew up listening to Depeche Mode and still do. I’m going to see them twice this year. 🥳🥳To find a person like yourself on YT and seeing your reaction videos of their videos and music is such a highlight of my day. Have a great week. ✨
Thank you! 😍 It's so strange how such an amazing group flew completely under my radar. How the heck i didn't know this group before 9 months ago is a mystery to me!! They have changed my life... Not even joking 😊
One of their top songs without a doubt. Be sure to check out live version too, i believe it's the exciter tour, there are female background singers- very soulful!
On the LP, "Personal Jesus" flows right into "Halo" so after "PJ" I'm always expecting to hear the beginning of "Halo." I love the lyrics to this song!
ten years ago. It's raining on the street and in my soul. Depeche Mode play this song in concert, in the background there is a big red triangle, the Berlin Wall and a woman walking a swan. Once you see the clips, you'll understand sooner. I find a hand-painted picture of these events. From my ex, when I was left alone, in a big city. At the time when this masterpiece accompanied my steps. It was raining in my soul, but I boldly kicked my foot forward like Dave when he sings this song. Boldly and forever. Halo is truly masterpiece
Yeah, Dave in front, Martin at the back. This time you got it right 🙂 And Yes, we DM Fans consider this one of the best songs, although it wasn't released as a single. Fantastic song, and reaction too 👍
Sadly this song got zero play on the radio stations and it was such a fantastic piece. One of my all time D.M favorites. The lyrics, bass line and symphony background is so dramatic and beautiful. i don't know why this little gem was overlooked off this album. Such is the music industry of that time and probably still.
Violator Is my favorite Depeche Mode album/CD of all time. I grew up listening to them. Enjoy The Silence is and will always be my favorite song to dance to.
Alan did a brilliant job with the orchestral samples. They are a combination of synth strings with sampled orchestral performances and even reversed samples. Amazing
Best song on the album and one of their best overall. The dark instrumentation, fantastic lyrics, great vocal harmonies on the chorus and those synth strings that come in on the chorus and end with that string flourish at the end of each chorus. Simply brilliant.
I remember myself listening the Violator cd for the first time, it was about 25 years ago. I didn't emphasize the song back then. However, that night I had a dream about Dave fishing on a very blue lake sarounded with a bright green field, his eyes were painted like in 'barrel of a gun' video. Halo song accompanied the dream. In the morning I woke up and listened to Halo again. Since then it's been my fave song in the world.
Those chorus vocal harmonies are heavenly. And the ending of each of the verse lines hit so hard. "Like a halo in reverse..." "And in your head it's worse..." "An aching to be free..." "Are here for you and me..." "And fall into my arms..." And this (4:11)
Such a strong one, both musically and lyrically. At first I didn’t get this song at all, but thankfully soon enough I understood it’s brilliance - thanks to live performance from One Night In Paris.
All of the album tracks could have been a single but this one more than the others in my opinion, the whole album is solid. You need to watch the video for this one, it is one of the more entertaining.
Blue Dress and Clean are my favorites off of Violator, but this one really grew on me the more I listened to it. It sticks in your head. P.S. -- how is Stripped not in the S tier?? haha.
@@SephPlays It's my number 2 all-time DM song lol. But I have actually met a few people who disliked Shake the Disease, and even Behind the Wheel -- perish the thought. What some find brilliant others tend to not get the acclaim. It's like those who obsessively go on about Enjoy the Silence; after 16 years of listening to their music constantly, it is now old hat for me haha. Yes its amazing, but I got over that years ago -- there is so much more in their treasure chest of wonders.
Can't wait to see your reaction on Policy of Truth. I bet you'll rank it on the very top of your list. Two more songs...and one of them is their biggest ever selling record.
The guitar sample of Policy of Truth in Halo's chorus. I repeat myself but, since you already reacted to PoT, I recommand you to react to the Violation Tour version in the hole that was left after Enjoy the Silence. I actually found a very good audio quality footage of the first date of the tour (Frankfurt 1st night), and I think it's the best version of the song. Because you really like Gore's voice, I guaranty you will love the end, that is, if you ever react to it.
You have to dive in the music totally. Can you hear the classic part between, and the baseline? The part of Martin is soooo gooooodd. It´s fantastic. It´s worth it to hear it again and again and again :) Thank you for your enthusiasm 😊 I can feel it too 😉

Personally my favourite from Violator. So melancholy,so synthy,so dark. Beautiful.
Mine too. I think the real Devotees love this song. So dark, and the person fighting all the guilt.
This! Violator is a masterpiece with every song being a killer, but Halo will forever be my favorite form the album
Totally agree, Halo is my favourite DM tune. Very dark, deep and emotive.
I prefer Clean - but this is well and truly in my top 5 DM songs. The chord selection is sublime.
