    I learned so much from your videos. I need your advice on the polishing stage. My rocks are beautiful while wet, but turn dull when dry. I bought the filler pellets you used and repeated the last stage again for 5 days. Same results. Suggestions?

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be the wrong type of rocks, or a few rocks that are wrong that are scratching all the rest. Do not get discouraged, I have had this happen to me twice in the many years I have been polishing rocks. I sometimes think a person starting out should do one full batch of JUST quartz. Quartz is an awesome hardness for polishing and would give a beginner very good results. I am guessing you cleaned everything well between steps? I do not have the details on how much grit used for each step etc. If you have more questions, email me. joe@homeandcabinconstruction.com Within a day this comment will be lost in the thousands of comments I sometimes get each day.

    Couldn't you use the ceramic pellets in the first step as filler instead of the smaller rocks? I live in Michigan and we have a lot of agate rocks and petoskey stones. I have a tumbler so I am thinking on giving this a try. What do you do with your finished polished stones?

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use the pellets on the first batch but usually my tumbler is full enough and a filler is not needed at that stage in the process. If you tumble the petoskey stones you need to do them separate from the agates. Petoskey stones are soft. When you tumble them you have to add something like molasses to the slurry mix. Look it up online before attempting it. Some of the rocks get used in some workshop projects like burying them in liquid glass as a table top. I have used them in a waterfall landscape project. Most go into gallon pickle jars to be used or looked at later. It is just fun to do.

    Life is like a box of rocks; to a rock collector they are priceless, but to somebody who doesn't know their true value they are worthless. Sometimes we need to look at those worthless dull rocks and see how beautiful they can become when they are polished up. We ourselves can seem dull and worthless until we can see our true potential. Life may seem dull and worthless, but if we took the time to realize that just as those rocks become so beautiful when tumbled around a bit, that our life can be more defined through being tossed around a bit. We are shaped by hardship not the other way around. Thanks for sharing. It's a blessing to see how beautiful a dull old rock can possess just by being tumbled around. If people just understood no matter what a person may look like on the outside that they could have a beautiful soul ready to shine through. Thanks again.

    I am brand new to tumbling...just got my first tumbler for Christmas...sooo excited to get started! Thank you for your four videos, they were very imformative. I do have three questions if/when you have a moment, please.
    1. I noticed you said you were going to reuse the ceramic pellets...about how many times can they be reused? Do they also eventually get ground to dust?
    2. Have you used any alternatives for the grit compounds you mentioned? What I mean is, can other items, such as, sand, be used in the process, or is the specific grit compound essential to the process?
    3. I mentioned I received a tumbler for Christmas, but I am going to exchange it because it is a metal vibrating tumbler and I want to do glass & rock. And, because I am new and the one I have was purchased at Harbor Freight, I am going to replace it with one available at HB, recognizing that there are probably better and bigger machines available, I'm starting small and less expensive. Having said that, would you suggest I get the double drum , which has two 3 lb drums, or the single, which is one 3 lb drum? I'm kinda thinking I won't have the patience to wait a whole month to start a new batch, but is a double necessary and does it produce the same quality as a single which recieves all the attention of the machines motor or is that irrelevant?
    Again, thank you for the detailed, segmented videos...they were very imformative, and I also appreciated you speaking clearly accompanied by a top notch video in terms of - you remained focused on each task, not shaky or blurry. Very nice job! I look forward to hearing back...can't wait to make the exchange for the right unit and pick up the needed supplies. Have a Merry Christmas!
