This production quality is ridicoulous. Honestly man, this video is beautiful. I´m taking my mom this May. I can´t wait for her to experience Japan. It must be unforgettable to be able to enjoy a trip like this with your mother and siblings. Keep at it man, these videos are GOLD.
Thank you so much for this comment, you're too kind 😭 it was indeed an unforgetaable trip, and a long time coming since my mom was supposed to come visit me when I lived here 5 years ago but then covid hit.. I hope you have an equally unfrogettable time with your mom!!
Okay, so my earlier comment was written before watching the Entire video... having done that now, I can say, WOW! What a beauty, you just always capture the best Vibe, images and set it to great music... what's not to Love?! And trust me, as a fellow parent, this was Everything for your Mom, getting to be with her 3 great sons and having an amazing video journal to look back on, a true Gift!
Thank you for the follow up commetn Roland, it was indeed an amazing experience to be abloe to share as a family, I'm just sad it couldn't be longer! Always appreciate your feedback 🙏
I think the seasonality of Japan, and its cultural consciousness of seasonality reflected in food and style, is a large part of what draws people to Japan. It could be very easy to visit Japan, do the Golden Route and think you've seen "the most important" parts of Japan. "Forcing" people to see Japan, while still as a vacation, closer to how Japan is experienced and enjoyed living there I feel is an amazing way to encourage people to want to explore Japan and visit multiple times, rather than a hit-list a few cities and instagram the same monuments as everyone else. I love your love of a thing that I love 😂 Amazing video as always Ry Some of the most beautiful shots and stills
Thank you so much Ben, really appreciate your comment and feedback. I totally agree, and that's why I'm glad some of my videos can perhaps help people decide on a couple locations off the Golden Route!
You have captured such majestic imagery of Japan, especially your brothers slip sliding down the icy footpath. Love Gujo, so worth the effort even by bus or train from Nagoya Great content and good luck in that cold van for the rest of winter..
Thank you for posting your vlog of your travel that is not on the Golden Route. I have always felt it is unfortunate that all foreign tourists who come to Japan only visit the same places. As a Japanese, I would like to strongly emphasise that our country offers wonderful sightseeing in all around the country, no matter where you go.
Absolutely, I have always felt that it's a shame as well. I have learned in my year and a half of living here that there is so much beyond Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, and it has become my goal to experience that side of Japan and document it so others can learn about it too.
That was absolutely beautiful! The moments u captured were truly amazing, and it’s clear how much thought and effort u put into sharing this experience please keep creating and sharing your adventures ur inspiring me. Can’t wait to see more from u
What a great video, ma man! The composition, colors, music, and focus shifts…all perfect! Thank you for letting me join your family on this trip through your video! And boys will always be boys😂
Nice video! My family came visit last year and we also skipped the golden route. I took them to Okayama-Kagawa-Ehime (via Naoshima) and they absolutely loved it. Looking forward to new videos/updates!

Actually I grew up in Nagano and now living in far from there. Appreciate sharing all the spots that I would recommend to people. Nagano is famous for more unique onsen through north to south. Also snow shoe hike at Togakushi area would be recommended late winter such as Feb to Mar. Have a nice and safe trip! Cheers!
How wonderful to share Japan with your family! We’ve visited 26 of japans prefectures and your itinerary is top notch! We recently visited Togakushi for the 3rd time and when it’s all snowy is perfection! Many don’t hike to the end but we do and it’s just stunning!
Wow you're over halfway to seeing all of them! Totally agree, Togakushi was magical in the snow, and the crowds thin out the farther you go haha. Glad to hear my itinerary was a good from an expert 😳
YOU! How fortunate they are to have The Man, as their tour guide! Now, put them to work doing B-roll and retrieving cameras from back up the hill... Oh, and your Mom is LOVELY!
Hahaha my brothers did help carry a couple things (reluctantly 😂). Thank you Roland, I will make sure to pass on the compliment to my mom, though she has been checking the comments hereself haha
Hi from a fellow Canadian!! Just came across your channel Ryan and gotta say your footage, cinematography and style is so beautiful! I'm planning a big trip to Japan for 2026 and as a hobbyist photographer and travel advisor I loved seeing the way you captured your trip, definitely took some notes on some of the off the beaten path sights too!
Really enjoyed watching it!! Love this video! Family time made me feel heartwarming, and like I wanna go see my mom & dad(actually 5mins by car😗) Snow slide by shoes? that looked fun🤣
Excellent, gorgeous video. I am glad to meet your channel. Your family is so sweet, God bless them. I'm planning a 90 days bikepacking odyssey from North to South of Japan between next August and November. Your footage style amazing.I'm sure this channel helps me a lot for my touring. Can't wait for the next chapter. Greetings from Istanbul.
Gujo City is famous for its traditional Bon Odori dancing throughout the night, and definitely has good tourist resources, but as a small town in the mountains, I am concerned that the influx of tourists will exceed its capacity. If you, the commenters and viewers, are interested in Gujo City, I hope you will enjoy the beautiful city with respect for the fact that the beauty of Gujo City is maintained by the efforts of its people.
Well said. I take my role as a creator seriously, and understand that I can have an impact on these more rural areas. I will be sure to convey that message throughout some of my future videos. Thank you for this comment.
Awesome Ryan. So glad your family was able to visit you. Not the typical golden route, plus travel can be challenging in Japan around New Years holiday. Looking forward to the next one!
Those of you who chose Gujo Hachiman as a tourist destination have great taste. Gujo Hachiman has a very similar urban structure to the nearby Hida Takayama, so it is recommended to visit these two cities as a set. For some reason, everyone goes to Hida Takayama, but Gujo Hachiman is also a wonderful tourist destination.
Was late to this weeks video, but it was great as always. Glad you were able to have fun with yout family. Your photos, videos and drone shots are unbelievable.
One of the best location in the world I have ever been was found! It’s Togakushi shrine. Please come back there again in summer not winter, al of you can meet the quite different atmosphere and scenery !
Amazing. And yes, there are nice places to visit around the country, not so crowded with tourists like the typical golden routes of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, such as coastal areas of Hokuriku/Tohoku, Setouchi, and some remote islands.
Thank you! Yes, I have spent lots of time in Tohoku (you can see it in my other videos), and I am heading down to Shikoku and Kyushu in the spring, I can't wait!
