The editing and cinematography are absolutely off the charts. Better yet, I absolutely appreciate the historical deep dives into Japanese culture, folklore, and history. The quality present is absolutely top tier. I would expect this on major broadcasting channels. Is there a works cited page that lists the resources for yokai, history, Miyazaki quotes, etc?
Happily subbed and excited to see more!

also this last trip to japan to Hiroshima museum. i understand he makes films for the children who survived. he always has a main character child. often a little girl who must learn to navigate life without parents. I recall he regretted as a child that his family did not help a mom and daughter they came across on the road. his stories are always full of lightness wonder and joy of discovery made with love for the children of japan. 🌸💚🌸💚🌸

In all seriousness and at least half in jest, I love this. I unironically love this. It brings me to tears about how deep you dive. I love this takeaway from the movie, and I hope Miyazaki has a chance to see this documentary. It's so good.

This is quality work and very well thought through. Spirited away is my favourite Miyazaki movie and though I read a lot about it I'm forever curious about all the details. It still seems to hold so many mysterys. It's beautiful. The train scene especially as Chihiro seems to pass through the underworld/the world of the dead. Btw. I visited Ghibli Studio One a long time ago and it was a very touching experience. Fun fact: recently I read a news article about Dogo Onsen and seeing a picture of it, I thought it reminded me of Spirited Away. Didn't know Miyazaki actually drew inspiration from that place. Great work!

Thank you so much for this! I saw this film while working at Disney World back when it was released and the joy it has brought me throughout the years is an understatement. But I had no idea what it was based off of. Growing up watching Miyazaki Films, with my first being Totoro on VHS (I'm that old,) I knew the under tones of greed and pollution to it but never the inspiration. That festival was gorgeous as was the little town. We're heading back to Japan next year and one of the original places we wanted to visit was the 400 year old bathhouse but we couldn't fit it in. Thank you for taking us, the viewers, on your journey to all the places that inspired this beautiful film. And it makes us more excited to be back in Japan soon. In 2023 we went to Ghibli Park and this trip, we can only hope to snag some tickets to the museum. We're also going to Hakone for the Evangelion locations and to get away from the city. Welcome to TH-cam, looking forward to checking out more of your well made documents. -Ven
