I don't understand these complaints about missing out on political commentary. The game is about cults like Waco and Jonestown, it's not about extremist political militias.

Ya know, even if I might lean one way or the other, and even if a game seems to be agreeing with me on some core issues, often times it ends up coming off as patronizing and trouble making, because they're trying to sell a product and don't mean, or if they do mean it, it comes from hatred more than benevolence. So even if the msg agreed with me, it can still be annoying.

Excellent review. So much coverage of this game has eschewed any insightful analysis into the changes this game makes to the formula. Not one other outlet made mention of the fact that there is no mini-map this time around. Glad you guys took the time to dig deep and actually deliver a solid review. This is why Gamespot stands above the rest.

Yes, boomers cute and all, but he’s kinda weak and doesn’t suit my play style. I keep grace (but the 1st guy you find on Dutch’s island, his name is hank on my game, if I need help with a frontline assault) and nick with me

The only flaw that really rubs me the wrong way is that you can only have a single save file. It can't be that difficult to implement multiple saves.
Are we seriously complaining that the game doesn't try to shove a political message down our throats? Especially in this day and age where everyone and their mothers is trying to elevate their products by putting some kind of political message in it. Are we seriously complaining the game isn't dividing the players even more than they already are? Don't we fucking play games to forget about real life and it's problems? Gimme a break.

yeah man i agree with ya but i mean yeah its in there, for a brief moment but its not shoved in our throats, the only political messages ive seen so far came from turk and his father, which the conflict between them is funny as fuck, his father being the tough conservative that likes his gun over his son vs turk a pc hillbilly that happens to have a rocket luancher always strapped to himself. dont get me wrong ubisoft does put politics in their games sometimes but it isnt shoved down our throats like as if we should prepare for the 2020 election.

It didn't to drive any intense political narrative. However exploring the impacts of fervent religious beliefs in cults is an interesting topic. Also cults shouldn't be liked by any political groups. Farcry 4, despite its flaws, had some interesting exploration of what a resistance group might do once they are in power, and that it might be just as bad as who they overthrew, only justified as "necessary".
It generally tends to be folks on the polar ends that push for this garbage. Progressives claiming the Nazis are back, white nationalists claiming the white race is dying. Meanwhile the majority of us in between just want to play a video game lol.
The white nationalists, all 11k of the (SPLCs numbers, not mine), where there before Trump and not a result. The far left keep giving them a platform even though no one wants it, because progressives need a boogie man. We all agree Nazis are bad, we are split that communists are bad. The story progression is actually sick like when it told me I was being chased by johns people and I was beasting down the road in dodge neon looking thing shooting a snub nose out the back just to get hit with a drugged tranq and crash through a fence into a shop before u faint out and wake up in front of Johns next part of the story was really dope I’m not that far But what I’ve played is really fun

I discovered a pretty cool glitch. Get in the passenger seat of a helicopter with a hired gun. They will get in the driver seat. Put a way point on the map for the hired gun to fly to, then as he takes off, jump out. Now the hired gun will remain in the helicopter and follow you around in it while shooting his pistol at stuff. You get an auto follow drone that wiill even follow you in cars, boats and planes.

I loved the hunting/ crafting system, meant everything wasn’t available out of the door, sneakily creating a progression system that was integrated into the game world. Probably won’t get it without that in it.

No Gamespot, Far Cry 5 does not make any political stance, and that is something to applaud them for, not criticize. They have the freedom to make that decision and the game is all the better for that.

And I disagree with the villain complaint. They were clearly all abused as children, leaving them mentally disturbed, and almost made me feel bad for them, especially John. You could see he did want to try and save people, in his own screwed up way. And you could feel his internal struggle of wanting to act out because of the guilt of his own sins
Adarsh lal no, from what I’ve seen of faith, she just wants everyone in a peaceful state. It never says how she feels about the strong punishing the weak. Jacob I haven’t encountered yet so I can’t say too much about him. With the telepathy, I never saw any of that, but they would talk to you on your radio a lot. Faith was causing hallucinations, so her talking may have actually been her near you
Adarsh lal Joseph wasn’t actually talking to the deputy, that was just breaking the fourth wall. And I actually just found a note from a chemist in a basement and it said bliss is a natural chemical compound and they convinced a chemist to join the cult is how they did it. That’s how all farcry games are. You need to read the notes to get all the details
I was reluctant to buy another far cry game cause I felt like I've done this a million times before but this game is so much fun. It looks and plays very well on pc.

I'm GLAD Far Cry 5 isn't "politically charged". I've had it with political overtones, and I'm glad Ubisoft decided to avoid that whole mess! 5 out of 5 stars!
Where is any mention of the DLC?
I already have the base game, about 8 hours in and its a site to behold on an X1X in 4k hdr. Haven't seen a single bug or framerate dip so far. I didn't get a season pass because I wasn't sure about the DLC. Will this review be updated at some point?

Kinda wish I didn't get a control layout every time I enter a vehicle
I'm enjoying this game a lot coming from a person who is played every one of the games in this franchise. But there are some features that they took out of the franchise, one of them being the ability to heal yourself without heal packs. Such as pulling a bullet out and using fire to cauterize the wound or popping a dislocated body part back in place. Which I felt added more immersion to the game. Also the console version has a surprisingly lacking amount of settings.
FAR better than 'sea of zzzzzzz',

I got this and cyberpunk at the same time and FARCRY is SO MUCH BETTER, it's insane. PLaying those two side by side really highlights what a finished, polished game really is.
I flatly disagree with a lot of the negatives. Cartoon characters? That undermines the thrill of saving an upcoming father from needing to leave a family home. Underwhelming interactions with the Seed family? Did the reviewer not notice how the family acts in a way that isn't as directly malicious as previous antagonists? The Seeds rarely if ever are directly responsible for kills but rather create terror through collateral damage and the implications of their dogma. I don't get how the reviewer could flat-out ignore these aspects of the story...

i do personally kinda miss the xp system of progression. it seems you level up and unlock all your perks way faster it doesnt seem as rewarding to unlock a new mechanic. it's incredibly fun yet, I just fear it may lose it's luster once i have everything perk wise. Maybe there's a sort of tier ranking system like wildlands has after getting all the main stuff done?

This game is addictive as hell. I dont know what the hell it is and went into the game knowing to be disappointed because it wad so familiar and yet 3 hours later, I still cant go to sleep because the convoy I was chasing has one car left to be destroyed but I was attacked in the middle of the road by a cougar and a bear and a freaking helicopter which makes my car crash into a cult outpost and the bear suddenly starts attacking the outpost. WTF!!!
I actually thought the cinematics and the kidnappings were the coolest part. Because your, kidnapped, your supposed to be tied down. Would be kind of cool if you could escape from it though, I thought I did it one time but i got hit with a cocaine dart.

This looks fucking amazing on xbox one x in 4k. Just need to fix that slight up close pop in that appears on both xbox and ps4. Id rather them scrap them extra tiny details rather than the pop in tbh. Still looks stunning but that little thing would put it as the best looking xbox one x title yet.

I just got this game today. I am BEYOND AMAZED at what you can make in Arcade. The shadowing, the graphics, the animals, AI humans, cars. There is so much to do that...I don't even know where to start!!!
Ending is awesome in that it is an amazing twist.. But in terms of actually giving meaning to everything you do through the game it's entirely giving you the finger. Sure twist was cool but this aint game of thrones I expected to be satisfied.- And These Milestone Sequences are way deeper than this reviewer thinks why's it always the heavy headed bloke who reviews? Jacobs for instance (INC SPOILER!) Has you thinking you simply re-attempt a harsher and harsher trial to become one of his "Choosen" and Hunters, but in reality it is his way of mind gaming you into murdering your friends, as the level you go through become longer and longer with each attempt you get the feeling it's familiar untill it's too late you realise you've just killed the Leader of the Whitetails, as the last guy you off is always without a face or simply someone you cannot make out untill the last attempt, this is the sort of fuck-upness we need. FYI Jacob is an amazing villain.

I was taking a break and went fishing with my bear buddy when another bear runs up on us. I didn’t have the time to put up my rod cause I was in the middle of catching a big fish so I’m sitting there reeling as fast as I can while two bears are fighting right next to me. I caught the fish and it turned out to be a state record size. Probably the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me in a farcry game
How does it compare to fc3?
9/10 one hour of cut scenes and only 45+++ hours of gameplay.
It's quality over quantity, darling. And don't forget Arcade, which will let you play for the rest of your life.
For me, FC5 is easily the best FPS game of this year, but there are some things missing. For example a weather system and horses, I hope that they will add them in the upcoming updates.

If you don't do John, Faith, then Jacob, the game dialogue will still act as if you did, which is lazy design and pulls you out of immersion. It would be better to make me do that order than have messed up dialogue in my opinion. Also, if you don't do certain missions you could lose the ability to actually play them as resistance points fill up way too quickly and make you almost want to not save people. Honestly resistance points should literally take twice as long to fill and it would still probably be a bit too fast. Especially after obtaining a large amount of upgrades and things like attack helicopters.
From watching this it seems like a mix of ghost recon wildlands and just cause 3 but in America and better, yes or no? Waiting to get it from gamefly, ill probably buy it on PSN when it goes on sale for the holidays.

I am right now in a loop where my character just keeps dying over and over again. He died while falling, and now I just keep spawning from a height that just instantly kills me, and the game just keeps endlessly doing it over and over again, and I have no ability to access any options or anything as after the long loads and everything finally transitions I am dead before I can do anything.
I tried quitting and restarting the game and it just takes me back to the same spot. As this game gives you no load options and zero access to any save spots or checkpoints you just go to whatever place they start to spawn you. Only one option, continue, and that just takes you through the loop.

Gotta give the creators credit, they made the world feel pretty large but keeping everything close together at the same time. The map looks gorgeous, the scene is pretty and the game itself is just pure stupid fun. But guy's focus on the political aspects of the game way to much. Its's a game, forget the message behind it, far cry was never about a political message. It's about having fun.

Gamespot's reviews are the best. So, it's evident that Far Cry 5 does not have memorable story line, glad it is mentioned in the review. Run around huge gorgeous map filled with trivial things to do. What happened to the intriguing and memorable villains like Vaas? Where is a story that sucks you into the virtual world of Far Cry? It is not here at Far Cry 5. Thanks Gamespot for another honest review!

Politics is defined as "the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power." We all operate within a system that is governed by politics. Even the tiniest of villages has a power hierarchy, aka a system of government. It's simply human nature. As soon as there are 2 or more people, there will be a system, with one's ideas dominating the others and thus shaping their collective future. As such, since the system is comprised of its parts (not all parts created equally), everything that one says, does, OR chooses to omit is a political act. This is especially true in a democracy, where supposedly the government is operated for and by the people. With this in mind, what we collectively say and do shapes public policy and cultural development at large. Equally, what we do not say and do are cues for what a government things that it may be able to get away with.
I state all of this simply to say that whether Ubisoft chose to more accurately depict the behavior, thoughts, etc. of today's cult leaders in the United States or to depict a more fanciful, abstract, or watered down version is EQUALLY a political act. Full transparency, I'm all for more politically literate games. I want to see more games that accurately depict history and the state of the world. Video games are created by artists (developers, graphic designers, etc.). Art has long shaped the landscape of politics across the world throughout human history. We're pretending that gaming is any different. We're pretending that gaming should be a neutral source developed for sheer enjoyment, when in reality this has never has been the case and never will be. There's a reason why fps games dominate the gaming market and not cooking simulators - we, the people, show our interest with our money what we want to play, and the gaming industries listen. Games depicting a future WWIII are popular. Games showcasing zombies and Nazis are popular. Games with largely white and male protagonists are popular. You're telling me that that is apolitical? I think not.
On a separate note, gaming is more than just about "having fun". There can be some genuinely impactful takeaways from playing games. I'm not saying there's a problem if you just want to "have fun" with a game, but let's not sell it short.
The reviewer wasn’t upset about a lack of politically charged statements. Rather due to the premise, setting and villains it was expected and it just wasn’t there. So it was a let down so to speak.
