My favorite quote is one attributed to Mozart: "The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between." And that's a quote that really stands out to me. I'm a fellow percussionist, 5 years in marching band, 4 of them as front ensemble, one year in drumline but still drummed in pep band, then a year of indoor drumline for Audio Theater. As a percussionist around the whole marching band and drum corps scene, I'm sure you can agree that most drummers, when they want to look flashy, they will play something fast. They learned a lick from a DCI group and now they play it 10bpm over what it should be played and that's impressive, it's got hi-moms, backsticks, crossovers out the wazoo... and, yes, it's fast... and sure, it's clean... but you're also showing it to other percussionists. Show it to someone who knows nothing of drumming and rudiments and hybrid rudiments and out of context from the music, and they'll just think you're making a lot of noise! Sure, it's hard to make a snare drum sound emotive on its own, and that's when dynamics and pacing come in to place. Tying that back into TH-cam, I never liked Pewdiepie. I know, shocking and now everyone hates me. But I've tried watching him quite a few times actually, and I don't know if he's changed his style since then, but when I watched his videos, there was sooo much stuff going on visually, too many effects, like zoom-ins, camera twisting, shaking, flashing, text flashing on screen - it wasn't MLG level, but it was enough to deter me from watching more. As opposed to someone like Markiplier, especially when his editor LixianTV started and Marcus and Rachel carried it on. There are effects, but they're usually there to punctuate a joke or emphasize a moment. In the interstitial, it's just Mark playing a game, talking to himself or the camera. And it may be their humor that adds to it, but not every effect is a sudden flash in your face. Some of my favorite jokes are like the ones Mumbo mentioned where you look at the waveform and there's a long silence, and while editing you'd probably cut that out... but like in Mark's video [I believe titled] "Hunting The Goatman", Bob asks Wade a question and I think at that moment Wade was muted thanking his subs or whatever, completely tuning Bob out, and Bob and Mark are waiting for a response, so in this like 3 to 5 seconds of silence, there's a long zoom in on Mark's webcam heightening the moment only for the silence to be immediately shattered by Wade unmuting and talking about something completely unrelated to Bob's question. This... ran on longer than I intended, I apologize; it's a problem I have and can't seem to ever avoid, but in short: I agree. That Mozart quote. 😅 Silence is just as, if not, more important than constant noise or action.
I think they should bring in Oli the OrionSound... we're talking mastery of editing? Oli is THE master of editing, his episodes (when there are episodes lol) are absolutely incredible, every last one of them, and he's also an insanely talented singer and musician
Mumbo was my first Hermit (a la Doctor Who) followed by Grian, BDubs, and then Impulse. I'm still absolutely stunned by the amount of skill these guys have but watching them has really made my builds infinitely better. Great interview, guys. Thanks.
I really enjoy the way you interview! You're naturally very appreciative and supportive, your questions set your guests up for success in the sense of giving them an opportunity to give an interesting answer or insight. I like how you take yourselves back in these episodes but not out of the video, it still is very much an imp&skizz podcast. I love how far you've come with this, research, sound, editing, and energy - you give it your all and it shows. Hope this comment puts a smile on your face, because your videos have done that a hundred times over for me
This episode reminds me how I started watching Hermitcraft and came to learning who Skizz was. A friend directed me to TH-cam when I was asking how to make some redstone device (I think it was an item sorter) and found Impulse's tutorial. I would go on to look up how to make various doors, farms, and contraptions. Looking for a potion brewing wall I found a tutorial by Mumbo and one by Tango. At this time both of them were on Hermitcraft but I didn't know what Hermitcraft was. I didn't watch "Let's Play"s, I was looking up tutorials. Then one day in my recommended videos was this Build Swap with Grian and Mumbo where they each built a house (Mumbo a redstone cabin and Grian a big mansion) and then the other person tweaked it (Grian making Mumbo's cabin look nicer and fancier while Mumbo added redstone stuff to Grian's mansion). Watched a few more Grian and Mumbo swaps and contests, watched more Build Swaps that Grian had with other people. Then I saw a video where Grian joined Hermitcraft. This was the first time I heard of Hermitcraft. Eventually I see a video for Naked and Scared. It was the skyblock season. I have played skyblock and I was interested in how it would go. I wanted to see if skyblock newbies would make the mistake of leaving spawnable blocks unlit or if someone would be careless with an early resource. I would go on to watch other Naked and Scared seasons and some Hardcore Skizz. And it was Skizz who gave me the courage to try playing Minecraft in something other than Peaceful (I am still terrified of creepers and spiders, Minecraft spiders are way too big but I wouldn't want them smaller either).
Another good episode!! I always am at an awe seeing those notebooks Mumbo has for all his ideas especially for redstone. It's very inspiring! Definitely cannot wait for part 2 on the other side of Mumbo Jumbo! The filmaker/videographer !
Love seeing the creators Imp and Skizz have featured on this podcast. Especially their fellow Minecrafters. Mumbo was a delight to listen to and I can't wait for part 2! :)
Love that you've got Mumbo on this week (and next)! Mumbo's videos have been such an inspiration for me. I'm no redstoner but to see the amazing things possible with redstone, from cool vault doors to walking slime creatures, combination locks, elevators, and all sorts, is always entertaining and has led to me actually trying redstone more than I might have. When redstone was first added to the game I gave it a go, watched a couple of videos, decided it wasn't for me and stuck with building. But now I do incorporate redstone machines into my builds, and though it's nowhere near as complicated as Mumbo's, I've caught myself saying "it's quite simple really" to servermates who think I'm some sort of redstone wizard! (I'm not, I'm copying Mumbo, Impulse or Ilmango 99% of the time)
Thank you for selecting the most amazing people for your podcast :) listened to the entire episode while driving and had to have a watch here to have the full experience :) Love it!
Mumbo of the Jumbo… hard to believe the sheer amount of followers and he still appears all humble and not impacted by the stardom. Good interview, Imp&Skiz.
This was great. I’ve been following Mumbo for a few years now and am seriously inspired by his take on life, topped by the fact that he is so humble and human. Total respect for the guy. Despite being nearly 20 years his senior, he is someone I look up to (& I don’t just mean that literally!)
Almost fell out of my seat when I saw this week’s podcast featured Mumbo! Absolutely LOVED every second and can’t wait for part 2!! Such an amazing and inspiring episode!
I've always wanted to see a sit down interview with mumbo and get a peek into his creative process. Do ethoslab next! It would be hilarious if the video feed was just him in his minecraft world rather than a camera
Top guy. I've spent and continue to spend many happy years and hours watching Mumbo videos with my daughter and it's always the first one of the Hermits to watch when a new video appears. At nearly 50 it's one of the few things I actually enjoy watching (along with other Hermits!). Thanks a bunch.

This was really good. It’s also really awesome that Mumbo plays Civ. I personally absolutely adore Civilization 6; it’s one of my all time favorite games.
Shift with the thumb comes from using a Macintosh computer. The Command key is next to the spacebar, so common hotkeys like Copy and Paste use the thumb on Mac. The next two keys to the left of that are also used in hotkeys, so within a month of switching to a Mac you'll find situations where you're reaching for shift with your thumb.
I liked when skizz said listen to the music not being played and that was great phrase. In music silence and rest are just important as the notes and lyrics. I was always told when I was in music that when being creative or improving is that silence or rest is just as important as the notes
I’m chuffed to bits to see this! As a small TH-camr, it was so helpful to hear about his filming and idea creation process, also the insights about pacing!
Bring back "spoon!" It's a common word in my house now, usually directed at my kids😆
Absolutely love seeing the hermits on the podcast, give this comment a like if you wanna see the 🐐 Docm77!!!
What an incredibly humble, inspiring, young man! ❤
I still can’t believe Mumbo doesn’t actually have a mustache, it feels like betrayal.
ikr lol
Mumbo is just pure wholesomeness
What a pleasure to watch... err- listen. Mumbo is just the best, thanks team!
Hearing what Mumbo was like at Minecon 2016 was quite inspiring. Be more like Mumbo everyone.
I think they should bring in Oli the OrionSound... we're talking mastery of editing? Oli is THE master of editing, his episodes (when there are episodes lol) are absolutely incredible, every last one of them, and he's also an insanely talented singer and musician
Mumbo and OrionSound could be a duo called Oxenfree.
I can't believe how down to the ground Ollie is! I love his content and humor! Yo Skizz and Impulse, great video!
Man, now I wish mumbo would hop on the phasmo team.
I clicked faster than I've ever clicked in my life
Same
im 24 minutes late :(
Great video! Love Mumbo, and glad you got him on the show. Looking forward to Part 2!
Mumbo is such a good person, can't think of anyone better to have such an Audience
Mumbo was my first Hermit (a la Doctor Who) followed by Grian, BDubs, and then Impulse. I'm still absolutely stunned by the amount of skill these guys have but watching them has really made my builds infinitely better.
Great interview, guys. Thanks.
If Mumbo was a dog he'd be a Great Dane. The gentle giant that loves humans. 😂
Hope this comment puts a smile on your face, because your videos have done that a hundred times over for me
This was a SPICY guest appearance! Gotta love good ol mumbo!
And it was Skizz who gave me the courage to try playing Minecraft in something other than Peaceful (I am still terrified of creepers and spiders, Minecraft spiders are way too big but I wouldn't want them smaller either).
mumbo's short films are such an inspiration for me !! they've reinvigorated my love for film :)
Another spectacular guest!!! So glad you guys got him!
So glad he made the aha! joke
I can't thumbs up this enough!! Keep up the great work gentlemen!! I look forward to fridays even more now because of this podcast.
What an amazing human Oli is. Just in absolute awe of him. Talents, humble & just 1 pure human. No wonder many many people love Mumbo.
This was great. I’ve been following Mumbo for a few years now and am seriously inspired by his take on life, topped by the fact that he is so humble and human. Total respect for the guy. Despite being nearly 20 years his senior, he is someone I look up to (& I don’t just mean that literally!)
Love watching the other hermits come on! I wonder if Docm77 would be interested in doing one
Finally we get to see mumbos face well whilst he talks all excited
Yes! I’m so excited! This is gonna be so good!
i’ve always said mumbo would be great doing a podcast and this video is proof. all i could ask for♥️
I love the thumbnail of Oli as Mumbo, to make up for not dressing up as Mumbo.... Love the podcast as always, hate waiting for the next ones to come out....
Can’t believe im just seeing this now. I love Mumbo, i found him through cars and photography and later finding he played minecraft. Mumbo and hermitcraft led me to the impulse. Amazing how far you all have come love you guys!!! ♥️
Once again this Podcasts delivers!!! I cannot wait for next week to gear about the man behind mumbo.
My favourite podca-hast episode yet.
imagine many years from now someone auctioning off Mumbo's idea journals
this was unexpected to be one for mumbo!
As a heavily creative individual who thrives most when being creative, this podcast resonated with me so heavily, as I’m sure it did to many others. The messages within, were desperately needed to here
This was really good. It’s also really awesome that Mumbo plays Civ. I personally absolutely adore Civilization 6; it’s one of my all time favorite games.
Who’s this unsuited, unmustached man who sounds exactly like Mumbo?
@@luissuazo3684Mimbo Jimbo perhaps?
I don't know...I dare someone to poke him with a stick.
You can really tell that Skizz idolizes mumbo, and it's awesome. His energy in this was on point. Great podcast guys.
Yay Mumbo, enough said!
That shorts video was absolutely golden. It was hilarious to watch.
Yeeesss!!! Guess I know what I’m staying up and watching now 😂 1 am gang
4:58 "I thought we where normal" WHAT WHY WOULDNT YOU BE 😂
I liked when skizz said listen to the music not being played and that was great phrase.
I took notes, thank you, guys, for sharing your knowledge!
I loved this interview, Skiz always comes up with the deepest observations of people and the hardest hitting questions- You’ve got a serious talent for understanding people! Never underestimate yourself!
Looking forward to part 2! 😄
I love this. Mumbo is so down to earth and wholesome.
Skizz is the best at compliments and finding unique human traits in people
This is my first time ever seeing mumbo’s face and I’m very shocked, but his face definitely fits his voice. Anyway, I love these episodes with other creators, they’re amazing! Thanks for the podcast, guys!
When particular things are mentioned in your podcast, I feel like you should have links to them at the end... Now I need to go hunting around for blue stone and mumbo shorts, etc etc... lol Great interview and I can't wait for more!
Just saw part 2 drop so I am here to watch them back-to-back.
listened to the podcast yesterday on spotify. Now back to watch it on TH-cam basically because I just have to see Mumbo's crazy hand-shape while shifting
Mumbo, I've been subscribed since 2013, and wow it's been so awesome seeing you grow. I'm proud of you man
I had always hoped that Mumbo would go on a podcast at some point, and yours was the perfect choice! Looking forward to fully listen-through to this episode over the weekend. I'm sure it'll be as awesome as the other interviews you've done :)
