Okay, so this took way longer than it should have, but I really wanted to do this track right because honestly it's fucking incredible. There is so much stuff going on in the original track that I picked up on in the process of recording that I couldn't ignore.
I ended up completely redoing my bass tone because my previous one didn't really cut through the mix all that well on the high end. There's also, like, 4 rhythm guitars, 2 bass tracks, and like 10 separate lead tracks. I also took way too long writing the leads to make them a little more dynamic than my normal leads.
I may have gone a tad overboard. This is the most work I've put into a project since my Shovel Knight Medley, although that one about killed me. Needless to say the game itself has proven to be a bit of a distraction as well. I've been playing this game way too fucking much and getting way too mad at people online and just, just... it's just really good.
Apologies again about the brief hiatus, I've really just been busy as fuck with all kinds of stuff kinda-sorta related to this TH-cam business as well as some personal IRL garbage. I hope it was worth the weight.

RichaadEB Can I ask something: how did you learn to tap so well? I mean, your tapping skills seems clearer than international guitarists', I don't understand :o
rankarusu Just lots of practice really, spending many hours deciphering Protest the Hero and The Human Abstract leads by ear will do that. It should be noted that while recording this stuff I usually dampen the strings with a hair tie or cloth or something.
Most of it just comes down to practice though. If you wanna start stepping it up really fast, start delving into string-skip tapping. You have to be kinda ultra-precise to pull that off.

Damn, talk about nonstop action right there! My favorite part is that you ended it with a subtle key change on a major chord. Also, I love that there's a lead guitar and a "second" lead guitar that's more in the background. Awesome man!

I really like your stuff because of your obvious clean playing, but your solos and little phrases always sound musical. A lot of people can get stuck in a ' look what I can do' phase but your stuff always fits with the song! Anyways great cover and awesome guitar. PRS for life!!!

Seriously though man, how do you do this O.o like not just the speed, but also the musicality. I am very jealous. Your bass tone is definitely so much better, it's really audible.
If I can offer a tip (I really shouldn't) you could try moving your thumb down to the E string when you play bass, on the side of the pickup. You might find it gives you better anchorage, control of the strings and maybe even let you switch strings faster. But tbh your bass playing already looks really good and sounds great
Hah, thanks man! You bass tone was actually one of a few I was attempting to emulate when I was rebuilding the tone! And yeah I know my bass playing looks funky, I'm definitely not a bassist but it kinda works for me. I really ought to invest some time into better technique though :)

How do you feel about those pickups in the SE 24? I have the guitar and the bright/shrill tone is driving me crazy. Did yours tame it at all? Fantastic cover!
yeah I was definitely not a fan of the stock pickups and swapped them for LF/CLs at the behest of a friend. They're pretty fucking harsh but offer a really solid tone universally if you can dial them in right; they work wonders with the C24 SE's maple neck.
I'd strongly recommend getting them, especially if you like metal / progressive / heavy stuff.

Daniel Quick I highly recommend checking out some guides to arranging, recording, mixing and video stuff online. Swiggles1987, FamilyJules7x, and insaneintherainmusic all have fantastic guides that should be very helpful for you to get started. I also recommend downloading REAPER as your DAW if you don't already have one, since it's free (unlimited trial) and is incredibly solid. I still use it.
Teach yourself to the basics of sequencing drums and recording guitar through an interface and you're already off to a great start, since that's how I got started. The mixing and mastering and all that came later, and I still don't know wtf I'm doing in regards with video, I just film shots that I think look pretty then edit them together based on the flow of the song and what looks good to me.

Hey Richaad, I was wondering how long it took you to be able to play at that skill level because I kinda feel like I'm in a rut with my learning. I mean, I'm only 17 but I aspire to be as good as you someday because your playing is an inspiration to me.
I'm happy to hear that you want to improve! I've been playing for about 10.5 years now; the best advice I can offer for improving your playing is really just to listen to a lot of new music. Find a musician that really catches your attention, then take a shot at emulating their style. It doesn't really matter if you don't know exactly what they're doing, you'll try new things regardless. If you're up for it, try to learn their stuff by ear or tabs as well. Listening to progressive-oriented music will hasten the process in my opinion.
If you're listening to and playing the same old stuff as always, there probably won't be much new material to go off of. Hope this helps!

They're modified versions of the Polyphia "Inspire" tone pack linked in the description. I highly recommend them if you have some gainy ass pickups, but they might sound like junk if you don't. You'll also need the metal shop addition for pod farm to access the extent of the patches.
