6 filament dryer noise test - How loud are these drying boxes? eSun, Sunlu, Sovol, Creality, Eibos

- In my previous video I did the temperature and drying test with these filament dryers and at the end of experiment I turn them off at the same time. Then I realized how important is the noise level with these products. In this video I am measuring decibels with sound level meter. Video will be recorded using a camera equipped with external microphone and mic level will be set to manual, so the audio level is comparable with each other.

Great work! This is a good test, but with a spool of filament in the box the sound may not resonate as much(empty room will echo but a bit of furniture solves that). I think this should be redone with filament in it to make this more accurate to normal use.

just saw the other video on the performance of these dryer boxes. im printing in petg for the first time and i wanted to keep my filament in good condition. despite the noise level i think its worth going for the esun lite over the sunlu thanks to the option to use silica packets. thank you for your extremely scientific perspective. this is the kind of content i come to this site for

Great stuff as usual.
Very helpfull test, as well as your other drying boxes videos. I have two of the Sunlu S1, mainly for use during 3D printing. Chose those as they do not make any noise. After watching your other videos I think I will add a Eibos to use that to predry filament that I am about to use. Or to dry it before I put it in a vacuum bag. Even with the Sunlu S1 I have seen better results with printing.

I bought the sovol 3d three months ago and it is very quiet except for the loud BEEP when you press the buttons. I forget it is on sometimes. It does a very good job of drying my filament standing alone or when being fed into the extruder via the holes on the top. You can put packets of silicate inside to help with the drying. No more popping TPU.

I recently bought myself an eSun eBox - the fan sounded way worse than yours as it was more like the Creality dryer in your video. I fixed the issue by ordering myself a Noctua 12V 40mm fan. After opening it up and altering the Noctua fan shroud a little to fit the fan holder I now don't even notice it's on anymore.
Great info. Yes, that older eSun works on 12V. The eBox Lite on 24V.
The pity that the test was not done with embedded filament. The empty volume also affects the resulting noise level. Real conditions were unsolved. Who uses an empty drier on? You have good videos, I have already bought several products based on these tests. Thanks.
Hm. I didn't think about that, I tested one now (eSun), but there is no significant difference (less than 1 dB, hardly measurable)

I ordered the Eibos, pretty excited for it as I think out of all of them its probably the only one worth having. I bet with some thermal insulation around the sides too it can get a lot hotter.

I also ordered the Eibos. I think that's the best deal, since it performes best and it holds two spoils for roughly the same price like the others. If the noise bothers me I will just swap the fan to a better one.
Interesting. For my needs this would make the Sunlu the Only viable option, despite it having the lowest performance. 30db is way too high for where I have my printer + filament, as its a shared space.
In regards to the 3d printer sound test, maybe include the types of fans used? For printers with modern "silent" boards, the fans rather than the motors are the bottleneck for sound during operation. I have an ender 5 pro (which was far too loud), and have changed all fans to quieter options described as 14db, but are likely louder to due interference. Including the fan part number for the test would be helpful for those wanting to upgrade
At this moment, I am not sure if there will be 3D printer noise test. So far only 5 responses on that form (and 1 was me for testing). But if there will be, they will be tested during printing PLA (fans on max+stepper motors).
If you need a quick easy way to dry your filament.....
Most 3d printers come with a heatable printing surface.
Set your print bed temp to 50 degrees. Place your filament spool on the heated bed.
Put the cardboard box your filament came in over top of your spool.
Wait 4-5 hours.

PLA glass transition temperature is 50-60 degree, will dryer affect the physical properties of PLA, Please test if possible.
PLA drying temperature is 50°C, it will not affect the specs. Or you mean to "dry" the printed object? That's annealing process and it needs 100+ temperatures. But PLA object will deform during annealing. Search for "annealing 3d prining"
PLA doesn't need to be dryed to begin with. The filament which absolutely needs to be dried is Nylon.

I never tried it with PETG since I never had problems with it til here, but I might try it next time. Where I have got massive better results recently is with TPU and I must admit I was wrong about the PLA. PLA gives also better results when using it straight out of the dryer at a moistre level below 20%. I use the new single roll dryer from EIBOS btw.

I could, but at this moment I can't see it on Eryone's website. But according to specs, very similar to eSun dryers.
did you remove the fan from sunlu? cause mine is freaking noisy.
My version is without a fan, they added the fan later, probably after watching my testing videos ;-)

ok.... definitely Sunlu then get your self a 24v 40mm fan and then mod the upper side corner so the hot air can circulate, and there you go a completely silence filament dryer that come with a fan XD.
I have the Sunlu and made that mod. But... I was near shocked with the loudness of this upgrade / mod! Thought first, it was a faulty Sunon fan and changed it with an other one of the same brand; but the same. Then I bought an other one, that was in specs way quieter; again the same. I checked all three then unmounted and all were really quiet! The reason for the loudness? Resonance with the case! I could not feel any uneven rotation holding them in my hand, they all rotate smoothly and "soft". My solution then was to put some soft rubbers between the mod and the case and integrate a PWM motor regulator to reduce the RPMs of the fan. Only like this I got a somehow quite working of it!
That's right, most of 24V fans rotate too quickly. Also, bigger fan with smaller RPM is always quieter with same air flow rate.
