Maaan this master class on compression is just DOPE. And using the Fab Filter Comp graph was really a good idea to demonstrate what does every parameter to the track or sound including the threshold, ratio, attack and release. Thanks for your input, you are the man!
Thanks a lot for this Sean. I've been mixing my sounds for a year now and I'm still learning. And this tutorial is so simple and informative it give me a new perspective on how to apply compression. Great tuto !
Thanks for this and providing videos in general. Your way of explanation is great in all videos of your channel I've been through even though I use a different DAW.
Thanks for this clear explanation, man! Could it be summed up (kind of mediocrely) as: compression will be more (or too) agressive if you set very fast attack times because it affects transients to soon and kills performance , and if you set slow release times because it stops compressing too late and doesn’t let it breathe? // and viceversa for gentle compression (taking into account that it all depends on the thresold)
Hey sean awesome tutorial ! My audio is getting distorted and phasy on instagram . This happens after 20-30 minutes of upload . Is this a mix issue or what ?
Hi bro I wanna purchase the divine mixing vocal chains V3 waves and I saw on your website that it has a waves studio Rack preset because I want to use it on my cubase 5 daw and I know the cubase preset won't work but I have wave studio racks so hope it supports it
I’m so confused, aren’t LUFS a measure of perceived loudness? Wouldn’t we expect a more drastic increase in LUFS if the compression is boosting perceived loudness?
one Important question I have a mp3 beat but I converted it to a wav version to record over would the audio still sound the same or would it be a difference ? And yes it was a beat I found from TH-cam ?
For the C4 and C6 plugins, everytime I put one of them on a master bus without any other plugins, it adds about 3 db of gain even with everything in the plug-in bypassed, would that be because of the phase crossover issues?
Curious, why so slow on the attack on the vocal? It really seems to over-accentuate the consonants and the beginnng bits of the sibilences to my ear in a not so pleasing way in this instance (at least when soloed). Was the track full of rhythmic transients that made this necessary for it to stand out or what was your thought process for determining the attack time for this(or vocals in general)?
if you compare @ 10:20, that's not necessarily a result of how it was compressed. the attack wouldn't fix this (at least not entirely). And yes, very transient heavy instrumentation - hyperurl.co/rdfrsl
so many reasons :) mainly, Cubase has never been a mac focused DAW and in my experience, was never stable and always caused a lot of headache! Beyond that, Logic just fits my workflow so much better and the mixer flexibility is the best I've used
@@SeanDivine I get you but that was cubase 5 and you right. I think you should check out the new Cubase. Cubase pro 10.5 even in demo . cubase now has become very competitive and impressive
This is my netflix and chill ❤️😍😍😍
For real!
No cap
The tutorial we never asked for
But the tutorial we are eagerly need right now 😊😘😝😂 TX brother Sean

Great video as always. It seems one can't learn enough about compression. Actually, it would be nice to do a video on how to EQ with compression.
StefanFQ thanks! ...and stay tuned :)
Everything I know about mix & mastering is based on this channel. Thanks
Best tutorial for compression I have ever seen!!!!! It also goes deep in depth into how the compressor should sound. A 100/100 for me 🐐.
Glad it was helpful!

Super helpful!! Thanks for that! Been over compressing my vocals for years.. can't wait to mix my next track and not have to automate as much!
I learned so much in this mini video. Hopefully you could consider making a similar style of video for EQ . Awesome content on this channel!
Thanks Sean! I also picked up those V3 templates!
Yet another great tutorial Sean! You're divine
Great video man! Very useful for many to get a clear understanding of what’s going on in a compressor. That said the C2 is a beaaaaaast!
Great view, Sean, your're the best as usual ♥
thanks Sayed! 🙏
very great tutorial, that's such a good info ❤️
Parabéns pelo trabalho , acompanho todos os videos 🙏

Beautiful lyrics
Thank you :)

essentially, yes! 🙌

Thanks for so valuable content

Hi, I'm watching you from turkey, please add English subtitles to your videos. Let's watch it more enjoyable with the automatic dial feature
So well done. This is a must see (hear haha) if you start using compressors !

LUFS is intended to measure perceived loudness but it can't measure all the subtle details of perceived loudness that the human ear can :)
0:32 damn bro how to make those smooth doubles
I sang them :)
Hey Sean, I have a question What is your rate for mixing songs?
seandivine.com/mixing
one Important question I have a mp3 beat but I converted it to a wav version to record over would the audio still sound the same or would it be a difference ? And yes it was a beat I found from TH-cam ?
it will be the same... converting a lesser audio format to a higher quality one will simply retain the fidelity of the original
How do you feel about izotope nectar 3?

Why did you switch from cubase to logic pro
so many reasons :) mainly, Cubase has never been a mac focused DAW and in my experience, was never stable and always caused a lot of headache! Beyond that, Logic just fits my workflow so much better and the mixer flexibility is the best I've used
