Great tip here! Many of you are raving about www.goodrx.com to get these prescriptions at a discount. I just went on the site and typed in Retin-A and found it for $68.50 at quite a few places. Just wanted to pass this along 👍🏻

CVS in my Target has it for $40+. I ended up getting at my dermatologist's instead as they compound it there and add vitamin B3. With the B3 added, I have had no skin irritation at all, and I have extremely sensitive skin. Also, thanks for the video and suggestions. I was looking for a face wash and came to TH-cam specifically for your videos/recommendations. Have you tried Avalon Organics'? I have been using their vitamin c renewal cream at night (on the nights I don't use the Retin-A). That stuff is amazing.

I am 72 years old, and began using Retin-A in my 30's due to adult onset Acne. Nothing else has been developed since then that has been as effective as this. People tell me I don't look my age...ha, well I am not so sure about that, but my skin is in great shape. Oh, there are some wrinkles, but the texture and color is very good. I also dye my hair a med brown with highlights, which I think makes a huge difference in appearance as well. And I don't wear it in the "matron" style like so many women do. It's styled well and a medium length. Take time, but its worth it.

Ah well! I can have as many cats as I want! Lolol At 72 I’m doing okay. I just can’t seem to trust people much... men or women. Dogs are truer! Not only lost husband but all my friends, too; even my church! So, I rescue animals and plant flowers! Easier on my soul. My heart could only take so much! But I’m actually quite content as I needn’t answer to anyone! And I don’t have to ask permission! I take my kids and granddaughter on trips and spend a month is San Francisco each year. August is my month!!! YAY!!!! Lol 🌹

Recommended cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, for normal to dry skin. It has hiyaluronic acid, a humectant which keeps the skin hydrated after washing. Very reasonably priced and available otc in the drugstore.
But before I discovered CeraVe, I have been a fan of Aveeno products for years and still very much like them too. My dermatologist recommended Aveeno way back when I was a teenager, and for decades people have always commented what lovely complexion I have. But since hitting my late 50s, I have switched to a hydrating cleanser.

I am a licensed medical aesthetician. A big thank you for walking everyone through the very confusing road of how to age well. You have done it with such grace and you are spot on in delivering all the facts about products and application. A gentle word of warning. Glycolic Acid can be detrimental to our beloved jewelry. (rings, necklaces and earrings) The acid content could tarnish or deteriorate the metals. You know how much we Texas women love our jewelry!! A good simple protocol would be just to remove all jewelry before application. As you always say “Be Bold. Be Blessed.” May I add....Be Beautiful, as you always are inside and out. Thanks again and kudos for doing such a good job.

I got a 45g tube of .025% tretinoin at Wal-Mart for $68 with GoodRx. Using a pea-sized amount every night, it lasted me over 6 months. I use a 12% glycolic acid cream from Alpha that I believe was under $15 and I alternate it every other day with a BHA solution of 2% from Paula's Choice. Using tretinoin and acids, you need to make sure you're using an SPF of AT LEAST 30. Thanks for sharing your morning and evening routines!

I always check with either GOODRX .. or Blink to find products that insurance doesn’t cover.. they are both great websites and I found them out when my husband’s patients told HIM about them. Most times doctors don’t have a clue what the prescription costs. Also those websites after you put in your medication and your zip code gives you a list of places in your area and the different prices. You’d be amazed at how much difference there is even between Walgreens and CVS ! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Glycolic acid is also part of the Obagi products. My skin appears so much younger than my age. I can attest to the fact that these products really work. I am going to try Honeyskin too. In France our dermatologists recommend to use glycolic acid ONLY at night time to prevent hyper pigmentation from developing , and always to use SPF 30-50 depending your activities during the day.

    • @dominiquesachsetv
      @dominiquesachsetv  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, that's understandable. I guess when you're using both Glycolic and Retin-A, you have to pick which one will be used at night and which in the morning, since they can't be used together. That's where the higher sunscreen comes into play..

    And that alternative is retinol.
Retinol is an ingredient found in over-the-counter creams and works in a similar way to prescription treatments like Retin-A.
When absorbed by the skin, retinol is actually converted into retinoic acid, the same thing found in Retin-A.
However, this “extra step” of converting the retinol makes it less potent…
And according to New York cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross, “this dramatically reduces the negative effects of Retin A- the peeling, sun sensitivity, redness- but has all the same fundamental results.”
I'm gonna try this, thanks Dom! You are so beautiful and an incredible inspiration!

Great advice& products. ,UVA/UVB spf protection is the top of the anti-aging / preventative product chain. Esp if using any exfoliant/ retin A or a derivative . Otherwise dark spots, lines wrinkles, collagen breakdown & skin inflammation😣 is inevitable & all other skincare products are a waste of time and money.
Btw: Differin( adapolene) is now available over the counter. Originally prescribed for acne. Not quite as powerful as Retin-A, but bumps up collagen production and keeps the skin nice & clear too! 🤓

In my research, I've found that using sunscreen products with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the best as they prevent the sun's harmful rays from actually penetrating the skin. Many sunscreens have avobenzone and other chemical products that may protect against some, but not all of the sun's harmful rays.

    • @halfamo2422

Research seems to be showing Zinc Oxide is the only full spectrum protector for all 3 UVs. Might also want to be careful of avobenzone - stains clothes! x

What I like about your way to talk to an audience is that you adress to everybody assuming that there are smart people out there listening to you with honesty. You are talanted but also experienced in opening minds to your cause and once this happens everybody benefits from that. David Garrett once said : talent is the excuse of parents to force their gifted children to work harder. There is a counterpart to this : our own determination to overcome our weakness and become the personality we dreamed of. I enjoy your relaxing, useful and cheerful videos, I feel the sparkling in your character and I am glad seeing in you a person that instead of scratching the surface ( don’t get confused, I don’t mean the „canvas“ : ) looks for a deeper meaning in things. I wish you to stay this way and be bold and blessed, too. Lot‘s of thanks from the italian Alps!

Hello from the UK! I'm a couple of months older than you Dominique and love your videos - you are so honest and open it makes a refreshing change.
My skin has gone down hill since hitting my 50's. I always had lovely skin, even as a teenager I only had a few spots. Now I have regular break outs, flaking skin and very red areas around my eyes.
I went to a private skin clinic and was prescribe a whole new skin care routine, including a harsh exfoliate and night time pads. She encouraged me to keep going with this regime for about 18 months, but last week my eyes and cheeks were so sore it looked like I had been crying for hours! Enough was enough
I've now changed to 'Rachel's choice' and although it's only been a couple of days my face doesn't feel on fire anymore.
You are right that we do need to evaluate our skin care routine and importantly listen to what it is telling us - time for a change

Thank you Dominique! I’ve been on Retin-A for a while now, but just started adding acids into my mornings routine. I’m only using 10% AHA (Lactic Acid - my skin is normally really dry) and OMG - my skin is looking amazing! I have a different honey cream that I use (contains propolis, honey and royal jelly) and that has been really soothing to counteract these harsher chemicals. I don’t mix my products in with the cream, but that is a great way to cut back on irritation - especially when going up in percentage with the Retin-A or acids. Thanks for the video!

Just give me the active ingredient that works! As a side note....It is a good idea to wait at least 20 to 30 min after washing your face to ensure it is dry before applying the Retin-A. Water can cause the Retin-A to be more harsh on your skin. Thank you!!!!

I received the glycolic acid & HoneySkin on about Oct 24th...what a difference in my skin! It is brighter, the dark spots are fading and it hasn't affected my skin negatively because of mixing with the HoneySkin. I love the morning and evening routine! I am hardly using the Vitamin C cream now. My granddaughter told me yesterday that my skin looked really good...how about that! Thank you for ALL the information you put out for us older ladies (I am 64 years old). It is refreshing to find a voice who is down to earth, kind, understands what we need and doesn't mind sharing what you know! Thank you so very much!

Dominique, as always you never disappoint. Recently I visited my dermatologist and was talking to her about starting Retin-A but was a bit concerned about the price. She recommended Differin (Adapalene) to me, which is comparable to Retin-A but now the only product available OTC. I purchased the .1% Differin tube at Target for $31.00 and so far so good. No irritation at all and I'm using it everyday. BTW, my dermatologist has been using Differin for years, so if it works for her, I think it can work for me too. You looked beautiful in your video! Have a great night.

Thank you so much for this update! I love the idea of the minuka honey (sp). I will definitely have to try that one. I have used some form of Retin-A since my late 20’s, when I was a med student at Baylor College of Medicine and during my derm rotation, my derm supervisor gave me samples to help with acne. What a miracle, as it cleared up my skin so beautifully. Now, in my (yikes) mid 50’s, I use the 0.1% strength compounded at my pharmacy with all natural products in the delivery system. In Austin, I use People’s Pharmacy. It has been terrific with much less irritation and the cost is about $85. Another retinoid product now available over the counter is Differin, which used to be prescription only. It is at a good price point of $35 and is “a wash” when compared to trentinoin 0.1%, in terms of efficacy. It might be a good one to throw in a travel bag. I suggest using a Vitamin C and E with ferrulic acid serum before sunscreen. It helps fortify the sunscreen with all those wonderful super antioxidants and usually goes well with glycolic acids, but always ask your doctor first. Skinceuticals makes one that is quite pricey at $150, but I have found the identical serum on Amazon brand Cosmetic Skin Solution for about $ 37. There are other less expensive brands, but this company has a lab and guarantees their product. I love it and I cannot tell the difference between it and Skinceuticals. My go to night cream has been Oil of Olay Regenerist for years. Even my 20 year old daughter loves this night cream. I wanted to share my experiences, knowing we all have different skin issues. Mine is maintenance and treatment of fine lines, collagen support and sun protection. As always, you look lovely and I really enjoy your videos! Thanks for all the helpful tips and ideas!

Thanks for sharing and another great video, Dominique! Here in Canada, Neo Strata is a skin care product line that is available without a prescription. I’ve been using their Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Cream for about 2 years , starting with the 5% and gradually to the 10% Glycolic Acid. It’s about $40 Cdn for a 50ml pump bottle, but a little goes a long way. I use it alone 2 or 3 nights/wk when I’m not using Retin A. It’s not at all drying leaving my skin feeling so soft, clear and glowing in the morning.
Another excellent carrier cream, is the CeravE moisture cream, ...full of good stuff, the big 539 gr tub under $20 Cdn. I’m ordering the Honey cream also. Sounds yummy 😋
The pure New Zealand Manuka honey is amazing! A friend recommended I take a teaspoon for my persistent cough, and it stopped it like no cough medicine could. I researched it to find that it has wonderful healing properties!
Hope this info helps someone. Look forward to your next video! 🤗❤️❤️from Toronto, ON

I don't know if I missed it but did you put anything on the skin above your lips. I have started serums and I also use Curology it is mailed every 3 months. I noticed deep wrinkles above my upper lip. I am not a smoker and I thought that would happen when you have no upper teeth. I was wrong! I recently bought a Clarisonic love how my face feels when done. Did you know CeraVe has facial wash with hyaluronic acid? I got mine at Target. Also CeraVe has PM facial moisturizer with HA, ceramides, and niacinamide also at Target, the lady I watched said she uses it AM & PM. Great video!

I get my retin a from spain, its over the counter in chemists and its 20 euros. or at least last year i did. the rules may have changed now... i find i can only use it neat every 3 days but for dealing with the flakey skin after i really recommend Lancome Sleeping Mask which i got for £16 2.6oz worth. its really really good.

Erdei Agnes It is called Retirides 0.025% by Ferrer. Google this and you will find a photo of the product. It comes in a 30 mL tube in a white and blue box. There are different strengths, so maybe the box colour might change. This is a pharmaceutical product, so you might have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter.
