After reviewing the available videos, it appears to me that the major feature of the woodsrunner kit is that it will have much tighter tolerances greatly reducing the need for wood inletting, wood shaping, and metal shaping . The skills needed to assemble and finish the woodsrunner kit appear to be wood sanding, wood finishing, metal draw filing, and metal finishing. As such, the amount of labor required of and the risk of failure by a kit purchaser has probably been greatly reduced. The pool of eager blackpowder hobbiests now willing to jump and make the considerable investment in a high quality historically accurate black powder rifle kit probably has been greatly expanded.
Alright, I'm sold. When I scrape up the money it's gonna be mine. From research I've found all my maternal ancestors were coming out of Virginia into Kentucky and points west. The paternal side was coming out of Pennsylvania right down the Great Wagon Road and into N.Carolina. A .54 will fit very nicely over my fireplace, thank you very much.
I pre-ordered a woosrunner in Plane Maple .54 cal and just sent my payment for the lock. Jim says delivery will be sometime after Christmas. I am very excited to get started with it. In the meantime, my powder just arrived, and I plan to go shoot my Hawken tomorrow. Have a happy turkey day.
Yes, got this email last week, this looks like the rifle I picture in my head! Would enjoy hearing how this came about. Also supposed to be easier to finish than the other models? Yes the OAL sounds better suited for a guy like me, a bit short for my weight, lol Thanks you, Ethan
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I have wanted to build one for years, just kept putting it off, now I can't seem to find the parts. Track of the wolf used to have them all, now I see just a couple of parts listed. May have to get blue prints somewhere I guess. Unless you know of somewhere to get the parts?
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I hunt in mostly thick timber with lots of buck brush and things that want to eat you. I think a 62 cal would be perfect for NW Montana.
Awesome video, my wife and almost went to their open house earlier this year, but sadly could not make it. Really looking forward to a fowling piece from them, patiently waiting! Awesome video breakdown of the woodsrunner.
Kibler is going to continue hurting the custom builders. When customers get a Kibler kit finished, I don’t see them moving towards other guns. This one will satisfy their needs. Great job Ethan keeping us up with what’s going on in the ML world.
He fills the void between a $500 or so kit to a $2000-3000+ custom rifle that not many can afford. He is the only one that makes a CNC'd stock, barrel, and lock out there in kit form. Hopefully it may make others step up to the plate and produce higher quality products? My first kit was a Lyman Great Plains. Looking forward to my Kibler Colonial to arrive. 😁
@@garand4674 i agree that Jims rifles are a perfect “entry” level rifle/kit. But i can safely say something from kibler would never replace my customs. That said, I’m very excited to see kibler continuing to expand his offerings and continue to pull in new folks.
@@orckiller91 as a long time owner of a TC Renegade I bought new and have since added a couple other models, and also someone who has begun delving a bit deeper in the world of muzzleloading, I can tell you Mr. and Mrs. Kibler are in fact drawing me in
Could you do a video of how to pick a particular caliber for a given purpose? 32, 36, 40 for rabbits squirrels for example. What about deer and coyotes? Lastly: Elk, Moose or Bison? I realize there is no one caliber for everything. Thanks
I saw your rust browning on the Gemmer, and it was great. Only issue there, you forgot to Boop your Floop. You can see it asking for it, but there was no Boop. You gotta Boop Your Floop. Great video however. Worth watching for sure.
I saw one of your posts about a month ago about lower wait times on 50 colonial and 40 SMR guns as well as something about blemished stocks. Think there's any chance these are still a thing? Finally scraped some money together.
I don't know about their wait times currently, but I do know they are shipping pretty quickly, in some cases in less than 4 weeks. Give them a call, they are happy to talk about the options, especially with blemished stocks.
I got the email Friday. It's an amazing looking rifle. Reasonably priced as well. Imo I don't see Jim ever producing a percussion rifle. But hey I've been wrong before. I wonder if Jim has ever considered a pistol?
I absolutely love the kibler company. In fact I have a southern rifle from here. Can't wait to get the colonial rifle. But I just can't figure this one out. Let me get this straight. So people have been screaming that they want a Fowler from kibler and Kjbler has been saying yes I'm going to be doing a Fowler very soon but instead he comes out with just a shorter version of a colonial rifle and they're hooping it up like this is some spectacular thing. I just don't get it. I think he blew it on this one. But I may be wrong. I was once before. Let's see how it goes.
I can see your point James, this is definitely an easier step forward than an entirely new rifle. I"m sure you'll like what comes in the future though!
@@ILoveMuzzleloading oh I know I will. I'm just a little disappointed that they took such an easy way out instead of just coming out with some of the things that the people have been asking for. Like a Fowler or a pistol would be awesome. But yes I know you're right I will love what comes out in the future I'm sure.
It's not a design that's high on my personal 'want' list, but in terms of design, assembly and components it's about as good as we've ever seen, I think. 9/10
I really didn’t need to see this, I really didn’t need to see this, I really did...need to see this 😂 I’ve been thinking of getting a flinter, something based on one from my former home in the Valley.

That's so great to hear Larry! Your family history is interesting and I'm super happy to hear about you connecting with it!
So far bought 3 kibler rifles. Just love them.

You will be set Mike! Thanks for sharing!
I just read your comment. (A year after you posted it.)
How'd it go????
Can anyone tell me what is the overall length of the Woodsrunner ? I would like to build a Kibler rifle that will fit in my safe . Thanks.
How about round ball molds ? ( as I have all the rest of the equipment needed for casting my own )?

Yes, Jim is saying that the precision on the machining is a step above the previous kits, how he manages that I'm not sure but It will be a dandy!
A Full Stock Flint Hawken Would Be Amazing For Sure. But Who Knows .
Was just checking this out on the Kibler site! Appreciate the coverage!
Thanks!
Thank You Ethan! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Nice looking rifle, I'm still wanting a jeager rifle, but this would be pretty nice to have also.
Hard to beat a short Jaeger

Wonderful job reviewing the new Kibler Woods Runner Kit. You have a silver tongue!
Can't wait for the fowler.
I'm still looking at that model. Thank's

I was hoping for a .62 smooth, but it is what it is.
I think we will see one someday
A great company!
I too am hopeful of a fowler!
Me too Kirk!
Is there any chance you'll be building one of the wood's runner rifles on TH-cam for all the world to see?
I would like to absolutely, I had some other builds in mind though, so might be polling you all for insight to see what you’d rather see
I'm gonna get one.
Buttstock and comb make me think of a more subdued Lehigh County rifle... that's pretty sharp, definitely a fan.
I can see that as well!
Just ordered my woods runner kit today! Looking forward to putting it together and shooting this summer.
I hope you enjoy it!
Please please…I’m hooked..give us videos of you finishing the investarms gemmer kit! I’m ordering one soon and want to see your completed kit.
I am I promise! Next video is coming later today
@@ILoveMuzzleloading Awesome!..love your videos!

Awesome choice…that’s always been one of my favorite rifles.
Agreed, it will be nice to see these out and about
Great golly day, now I want one of these.
Better start saving those pennies.
I'm looking at the colonial rifle just haven't made up my mind yet. I'd sure like to have me a good flintlock rifle
Looking for my first muzzleloader. Need a shorter lop, as I’m a short guy.
Sounds like Jim is busy busy busy. A good programmer is worth his weight in gold.
Many of us would like to see a Hawken kit- Maybe Fullstock Flint, Halfstock Percussion ???????
The possibilities are endless!
I noticed that Kibler is offering the Colonial in 58 smooth bore.
Hey I'm a Woodsrunner!...reckon i should get me one of them kits!...thanks amigo!...woods
I really want this in .54. Need to save up my pennies :-)
Do it! His kits are great.
I'm sure you'd like it Scott!
Still waiting on my Kibler Colonial kit. In week 7, right now. 😁
It will be worth it!

Wish kibler would do a Hawken next. TOW has delisted their kits, Don Stith is sadly gone and custom guns are $$$$ with a long wait.
A Kibler Hawken is in the works
I'm interested in that but do do they make it in a lefty 🤔?
Not yet, but with enough demand, I think we could see a lefty at some point.

Has he said anything about a left handed kit?
To my understanding it's on his radar. I'm hoping the addition of the programmer to his staff could speed up the introduction of a left handed kit.
I mean this in the best way, but does Ethan remind anyone else of Manny Mansfield from the LuckyGunner Shooting Outdoors skits?
Whitworth? Jagen?

Nothing personal. Where is the evidence for the name hence woodsrunner. Is it historically documented under that name or a modern term.
I believe it to be a modern term applied to the rifle by its modern/contemporary collectors and historians
