I have been shooting & hunting with Muzzleloaders since the 1970's My favorite is the Pedersoli Classic Side-by-Side Shotgun - 12 Gauge Percussion. I think In-lines are cheating. I recently won a Traditions Deerhunter Rifle - .50 Cal Percussion, in a raffle, it works great. I bought 200 #11 caps & several pounds of powder from local gun/sports shops, Walmart was out of both.

Bub, I'm just getting into muzzleloaders. I found your channel pretty fast, and I want to say that this video was amazing. Your channel along with others have really encouraged me to get out and put some lead down range. Depending on how this season goes practicing I may have an entry out next year, we'll see. But seeing you get out and have fun definitely is a motivation, thanks for the video!

I don’t have any experience with muzzle loaders but I do have experience with reloading. Why don’t they make some projectiles that are 150-200 grains so you can get better velocity? Velocity does more damage that projectile weight. I reload 125g Barnes ttsx in my 308 and it’s devastating. A typical 308 is 150-175 grains. I know it’s 50 cal so it’s a much bigger bullet so it may not be possible to get a lighter projectile but I think it would work well if it’s possible.

Hello, I use a TC .50 Hawken and CVA .54 Hawken. Both flinters. Are they period correct? Nope, and I don't care. My best powder horn is a round whiskey flask. My horn one isn't waterproof enough. I preload pop top diabetic test strip bottles with powder charges. Someone hacks on those or the rest of my impromptu gear, they just get a disinterested response. It's 2024. I use what works for my hunts. I'm not David Crockett. He'd be wearing gortex too if he travelled through time to today, and probably trade Betsey for Winchester Model 70 - 30.06. Explore the sport, get what you need and/or want, learn and experiment (safely) for what makes your experience the best, and enjoy. The world is full of d!¢ks. Don't let them #$@& your day.

I hope they can compete with CVA Scout Centerfire rifles. Definately (dont) make a muzzle loading system thats reliant on large rifle primers. When politics change they quickley become unavailable while 209's are still plentiful. Could maybe OEM barrels from MGM too.

Suggest reducing your powder charge. Start by 10 grains, check your pattern, and work up as needed. You've got too much compression for the resistance and it's pushing your wad through your shotload faster than the loose shot can move. For giggles, try a lightweight cloth "bag", like a glove finger shape, and put your shot in that before loading. Opening towards the muzzle. Load normally; powder, wad, shot(bag), card. The results are noticeable, and should solve your doughnutting issue at any amount of powder.

  • @HistoryOnTheLoose

THAT is a sharp looking rifle. Your extras have really transformed a quality base piece to a very satisfying personalized work. Curious. What song(s) were you drumming to? From Wipeout to Black Dog (Zeppelin) to The Little Drummer Boy, which one set the stage? Lol I've never distressed one of my own pieces (I'm pretty rough on my gear and it happens on its own), but have been involved in helping others out. A two foot length of chain dropped and swung has a good effect, as well as just dropping armfulls of junk on the piece. I foresee you moving to scratchbuilding from components eventually. I've made 9 over the years; cutting the stock, inletting all pieces, etc., and make everything but barrel and lock (although have experience with both). There are a short few non-negotiable musts regarding placement, but once (easily) mastered, the rest is purely up to you. I am sure you can do it. Again, great work.

Hello everyone, it is not leaving it outside in the garage or on the porch that's the problem. In my experience it is extreme cold temperatures in the vehicle that I've left it in and then jumping in and turning on the heat that is the problem. So when I put mine in my vehicle I insulate it from the heat that I'm going to use in the morning or evening getting tours from my hunt. I have left my muzzleloader loaded for just about a year and it still went off. Granted it did seem like it had less power. I hope that helps you God bless shoot straight stay safe
