She prefaces her statement by literally saying that she is talking about appearance, as in physical attractiveness. Specifically men who are not attractive, the ugly ones.

Men also comment on women aging, she's over the hill, camel toe, bet it's a cave, roast beef, hag, cat lady. It's really and predominantly men, and then there is the narrative about them wanting late teen, early 20's 'girls'. It’s interesting because I find most negative comments about my body actually come from women. I’m relatively muscular for a girl and while some men occasionally comment, they usually just say stuff like “you look strong” or “you look like you workout” which I take as a compliment. However I get pretty frequent comments from my mother saying stuff like “men don’t like girls with muscles” or “would you not consider looking for feminine”. It doesn’t really bother me because I just think it’s her coming from a different generation than me. But just saying I experience negative comments from women rather than men.

It shows that she was homeschooled. I don't know how much people in here interacted with girls while in highschool but it's just asinine to say that women don't criticize men's and other women's bodies, that extends to adulthood obviously. There are men traveling to Russia and Turkey to undergo dangerous operations that will probably prevent them from practising sports ever again just to gain a couple of inches because they've been bullied their whole life for their height by both men and women. Most physiques in media are roided up which also impacts some men's self esteem. I could multiply the examples but the comment is probably getting too long.
It annoys me that women's activists have drilled into their own head that somehow, activism is a zero sum game. Any men's issue that is brought up is rapidly shut down and the discussion centered around women. We should be helping each other, the sexes are supposed to complement each other not fight in some sort of gender war for who gets the most pity points. The issue is that most people then defend them since men are expected to solve their own issues. I agree that men should strive to become better people and solve their own issues but not being eternally demonized would be nice.

"Men dont do this" "Women dont do that" "only women do that" and so on... "Girls are nice..." all statements that generalize about gender can be flat out discarded as false. Thats not saying men and women are biologically the same or anything, and there are differences. It's just impossible to make a true statement which generalizes about difference. Women seem to judge me more for obvious reasons than men do. And if they dont say it out loud, at least they show it. If you go through enough of a transformation, you notice they look at you differently once you have some muscle. Not that it really makes a difference though.

I do think there’s a certain validity to what she’s saying.
I’m fully aware that there is a major and growing problem with body dysmorphia in men, particularly the bodybuilding community. The explosive expansion of PED usage by boys in their teens and twenties is proof of that.
But while judging women’s bodies is the social norm, I think that judging men’s bodies is something that seems mostly relegated to fitness spaces.
I could be completely wrong about that. As a Gen Xer my quest is for preservation of mobility and muscle endurance…
You know what. I take it back. I just realized how pervasive and brutally toxic the Alpha bro hustle culture is.
God damn it! The internet is so cool. Why does it also have to be so poisonous?

You just need to look at the numbers spent on marketing for men vs women... women judge each other more harshly and judge men. Men judge each other for the most part with the difference being women will gaslight each other to make each other feel better, men don't do this for the most part you on your own.

Somehow she always finds a way to really show her age and lack of nuance and understanding of the world around her. She’s conflating plutonic relationships with intimate ones as if she compares them equally to one another. That’s so naive and honestly disingenuous because deep down she knows that’s not true. And everyone is not cool with every body type. What she described are merely preferences, that not unlike women do men have. Some men like big girls, some do not. Sooo is she believes male body dysmorphia doesn’t exist because of this same reason then wouldn’t that imply that she doesn’t believe female body dysmorphia exist as well? Tell me that you’re biased without saying so.

I think, at least from what I’ve observed, is that the difference is men feel more comfortable commenting publicly on the bodies of others with no particular connection to themselves. Whereas women tend to shy away from public critiques but will feel more comfortable letting those close to them know how they feel about their body. It’s why a woman won’t say anything about a male celebrity not having abs but will feel perfectly fine asking their partner why he doesn’t have any. While the man feels okay writing that “X” female celebrity has too small of an ass but won’t want to make his partner feel inadequate by saying something similar.
At least in my own life, other males close to me only ever say good things about my body. Whereas my wife either wants me to be leaner, or my grandmothers want me to “put some meat on the bone” (which is ironic since I am like 15% bf and quite muscled, they’re just fat).

i'm a big fan of billie and i'm also much older than she is. billie doesn't have the most expansive vocabulary, unfortunately. i think she just forgot for a minute that reporters and especially editors are not her friends. it was a very impulsive, thoughtless thing to have said to someone who's gonna publish it. i also think she has a degree of ptsd at this point, which sucks. save talk like that for your friends and your therapist, billie.
girls (women) can be absolutely vicious about other's physical appearance. just as bad as men. men, however also seem to do this thing, especially online, where their first impulse is to outright dismiss or undermine a successful woman in some way, typically attributing their success to someone or something else, merely being attractive, or even just dumb luck. like they're incapable of acknowledging that it could just be that they're talented. i don't think that aspect of criticism comes from women towards men nearly as much.

Another thing that bothers me and I know she’s not truly trying to deny this - this was an interview about herself. I can let that go. But it’s also the fact of how many people parrot what she said-
The idea that because you as a woman are not seeing what other women say to men about their bodies means it’s not really a thing. Not only is that false, but even if we pretend it’s true, what we do see is men being rejected constantly for very obvious bodily reasons even if they’re not explicitly stated bt the women / other men who reject them. Not just romantically or sexually but in general, even when it comes to friendship or rejection from some sort of social group. And I’m not saying oh we have it so hard because everyone doesn’t love, this isn’t supposed to be some incel shit. Nobody owes us anytbing. But to act like it doesn’t exist just because it’s not explicitly stated, that’s what’s disappointing to hear.

Just pure obsessive compulsive lifting and flexing in the mirror. Pure dysmorphia. Funny enough, what fixed it wasn't accepting my body. I just got big enough I wasn't bothered by it anymore lol. Is it even dysmorphia? Or you just want to be big and strong and capable like your idols, but you are 14 and weigh 120 pounds. Of course you wouldn't feel good about your body. She hasn't worked a regular job, run in a regular circle, had regular adult relationships, so it's only natural that she can't see outside of this industry celebrity sphere. Add to that shes a child, children are so sure the reality they inhabit is 'true', they dont yer have the experience to weigh up what's 'the world' and what's 'just me'.
Especially with Twitter - toxic internet culture and all that; the reality is that almost noone uses Twitter more than once every few months, and the ones that do are typically young Americans.
