    that type end cap more difficult to pry loose, even without a tach, first thing to do is find the brushes neutral timing point. listen to the motor's song with forward and reverse polarity, when its the same speed in both directions, mark the end cap and motor can with dots. to advance timing rotate brushed into aka opposite the desired shaft rotation. it is usually safe to go 15 to 25 degrees advanced, they spin like mad and get hot after 30 degrees especially, so I usually don't push that far.
    if the motor started with neutral timed brushes, usually the case for a motor being spun clockwise (aka reverse rotation), Steve just showed you exactly right "how to" in this video, my eyeballs are telling me he set it right near 25 degrees advanced.
    tread rpm ballpark... if the track length is 24", then tank speed increased an extra 80 feet per minute. 4.32 mph becomes 5.23 mph (just ballpark math @ 24" track length) with the motor timing gain.. so you lose a little speed in reverse, oh well! over 20% speed increase.
    you might not want to try feeding it 3S after doing this, there's a possibility of cooking it or the motor throwing its own armature wires for spinning 45k as it screams "help me!". 390 motors are cheap enough to replace if you want try it, whole drive isn't too expensive if you do somehow melt down the gearbox. cool video!

      😀👍Great info Model Nutty! If you did this to a 390 motor in a normal RC it would really get a lot faster.

      @@ShenRC oh heck yeah, do it to a 390 for normal CCW rotation and replace a 380 in a Grasshopper it'll flat scoot.

      @@carloshnunez Hi all depends if it's gear ratio is super low a higher RPM motor can work very well.

      it might be OK being advanced 15-20 degrees, current pull goes up lots more usually after 20 degrees. also usually peak rpm at 37 degrees plus, before the torque face plants. its all pretty typical with DC brushed motors.

    • @ShenRC

    You should try a Traxxas 380 titan motor. It maybe slightly shorter but may be a faster motor or a brushless 2845 system.

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I believe this 390 is faster than the titan 380 after timing I got it revving 35+ thousand RPMS, this is plenty fast for these tanks you don't need to go brushless with these things. 😁👍Thank you for watching.
