I bought one of these for my son. it is a beast. with some slight mods it floats like a dream. upgraded the esc and 2s 50c lipo it moves. standing backflips when the track hooks up.
This tank is amazing I have one The only modification it needs is weight in the front That's why it has a hard time climbing over things and it stands up If you add a padlock to the front of it hanging or if you take off the cover there is space and you add weight in the front It won't lift up when it climbs things
I've been building combat robots (think Battlebots or Robot Wars) for a while now using hobby grade RC parts in small scale competitions. I also helped build a "bomb disposal robot" for my college engineering class that could effectively climb stairs at more than 50 degrees. My local hobby store has a crawler course, and I've been tempted to build a tracked robot to take it on.
@@bestamerica I won't do that. Kev should do it. It doeast care hem if it brakes... But lt would be funny to see an over powered tank, It Wil do an permanent wheelie oder Chainie 😂
wouldnt do more than 2s 50c lipo. Axle bushings wont last 2 minutes on anything more. this is the second weakest link. Shock posts weak, on side landings. Transmission very strong.
Seems pretty cool. I prefer the gray. A little top heavy it seems, probably do a lot better on the obstacles if you added a bit of weight at the bottom to keep the center of gravity lower. Almost reminds me of the Tyco Fast Trax from back in the day.
Loving the daily uploads kev. Keep up the great work. I came across your channel around 6 months ago and I can't get enough. I have never owned anything rc but due to your channel I will be ordering a xmaxx very soon can't wait to get out there and do some bashing
I bought that one in white a couple months ago on the app wish for $45 and I didn't think to much of it but it did say it had a 360 brush motor so I said what the heck. I couldn't believe how awesome it's performed and looked so that much money. The one I received had two big compartments underneath one for the battery and one for the charger. It had a 7.4 4200 mAh battery and a spot 4 either another battery. The other compartment had the charging cord that was in there when I purchased it. I have since took it's apart I had to do a few minor adjustments and put a 540 motor and a S2 5000mah 2 cell battery. I had to dremel the compartment divider to accommodate the battery I also put 2 clamps to hold the battery in place and that not only made it a lot faster but the weight of the 540 and the heavy battery made the front heavier so it doesn't flip up as much over Terrain. I also glued a rubber gasket around the battery compartment to keep any water and replace the on button with a waterproof one. For $45 I ordered a custom beefier track with a lots of traction for the snow and a brighter light kit on the top in front of the doors and 2 LED lights in the front weather supposed to be. I have received the tracks and they fit perfectly and what a difference it makes on any Terrain I'm just waiting for the snow to fall. As of right now sign has to say it does around 45 to 55 mph and the run time is about 40 minutes. Seeing it so fast that you cannot put at Full Throttle from the start I was going to put a wheelie bar on it but don't know how that would look on a sport tank so it's either take it slow from the start or put a wheelie bar on it. What do you all think?
I have this one for a little demolition group I have. What I did was add a few heavy washers on the inside of the front end to keep the end down. Helps a lot
Get the metal tracks for yours see if it climbs better with them on for better traction. Seems to be more of an assault vehicle than a crawler but looks great fun 😀
Kev, you get it. Ya don't have to go 30 mph to have fun and thrills. May your path be free of puddles, may the wind ALWAYS be perfectly directed thru your rear wing. Thanks mang!!!
You can notice that the front end is very flip friendly on the tank and is contributing to the lack of grip over the obstacles, so I suppose you can add some weight hidden away I the chassis. SPeed doesn't really matter even though it has decent power, because its basically a crawler anyway like you said kev. I always get my inspiration off you as to what to buy my nephew and nice for their rc's, your doing a great job, keep it up dude 👍 💪 👌
I used to be one of your haters, I usually dont like rich people. Its just a go to for me. But you are a fun, happy, energetic guy and you seem pretty nice. I'm definitely gonna buy your course and see if I can become as successful as you. Hopefully I can and I'll personally thank you if I do.
That tracked vehicle would be a much better climber / crawler if you incresed it's weight low down inside it's chassis and maybe gave it a little l,ore power ?? As for what I would class it as, I would say it's a semi-toy grade with potential to be upgraded to hobby grade...Thanks for another ace vid Kev! You the man!! Wes, Liverpool UK.
Love the color I would definitely say it's steering is definitely hobby grade I believe the reason why the riptide has a problem climbing is because it's body to track treads ratio it's treads ar to light that always seems to be a problem with most RC track vehicles these days and some even in the past now with your fully realistic hobby RC tanks that's no problem thar track treads ar solid in that area but I'm hoping you might be able to solve a question that I've been trying to figure out and finally answer a unsolved mystery is Tyco RC fast Traxx from the 80s to this day still the king of speed ?
I just bought one .... I have 1 question ....is the rear drive wheels supposed to have free movement? ... mine has movement... but works fine .... just wondering if it's an issue ... thanks
Great video vid Kev I love what you do and you have genuinely gotten me into rc bashing and have spent a ton of money on spare parts have you any suggestions on any cars?

Question Kev, how come you haven’t tried any Redcat Racing RC’s? They are cheap compared to other name brands and have great parts availability in my opinion!
Out of the box it constantly lifts the front end and looks like a boat in choppy water. I added a bit of weight up front and it fixed that problem. It doesn't really climb worth a darn, rolls easily on a side hill, is difficult to steer where you want, and the tracks have next to no traction. The interior is so small you can only fit the upper torso of a small driver in there. While it does sell for a quite reasonable price, I really got little enjoyment out of it. It looks cool on the shelf though.
Kev I just recently bought a redcat gen 8 axe edition crawler and I have forward and reverse but no steering and I haven't even taken it out yet. Any idea what the problem might be?
Yeah somewhere in the middle. It's neat, but the lack of traction on the treads is disappointing. I also don't like how it is so unstable and rocks back and forth too much. It needs less bounce for/aft and better traction. The metal track version is tempting, but then you're running metal at high speed over plastic idlers and gears, not good! So it's close, but yet so far from hobby grade. And I've yet to see the guts, so how workable are they?
Is it possible to change the plastic gears to metal ones? I have one of these tanks (grey one to be exact), I haven't found any yet but I thought you might've found/not found
Put some lead weights in the front and you'll get a lot better crawling performance. The front end takes too long to come down when cresting an obstacle.

They heat up due to the high current demanded from them , nimh cells don't supply as higher current as li-po , due to higher internal resistance, to avoid/maximise the performance, you'd be better changing them for li-po cells
I’d say that it’s a mix of both but slightly more of a hobby grade.I’d say it is said to be a crawler but I believe it’s more of like a sand basher or an off road basher or like a snow basher and stuff like that
Hot glue some perpendicular beads of glue on those tracks and it would climb a lot more stuff due to the increased grip. Might flip over less since you can climb slower, beeping the nose from popping up and over so easily
i had one like this as a kid. it was called a Fast Traxx. had a design flaw where the rear axle shaft supports would crack from jumps/rear impacts at the chassis and cause the tracks to become loose and fall off
