      Yep. The ammo crisis made it possible for smaller ammo companies to have bigger sales. The companies that reinvested those profits into R&D and are coming out with bettet products will have a bright future.

    The fact that Sierra reached out to you and sent you ammo for testing is testament to how much your channel has grown. Also, you should take pride in knowing you helped initiate an improvement to a product. I don't know how much effort was required on their part to make this change, but it seems like no small feat. Kudos to Sierra for going to such lengths to satisfy its customers.

    Man that ammunition engineer at Sierra Outdoors is a go-getter. That ammo-hunt video wasn't but a few days ago.
    This is the kind of integrity that shooters like myself and many others come to respect and appreciate in the long-term.

      I've loaded Sierra bullets in rifle loads for quite some time. Consistent weight, length and diameter make them very accurate. The Gameking is my favorite in .243 Winchester for hunting, ( just can't find it), 308 Winchester, 175 SMK for target, 150 or 165 grain Soft point hunting, 135 tipped Gameking out to around 400 yard in my 6.5 creed past that 140 grain or 147 in another brand in 6.5. Pistol bullets I load are usually for practice and FMJ. After this test I will be working up a load for this bullet in .45 to try if available. Sierra has always impressed me with their rifle projectiles. Lots of manufacturers have up to 5 grain difference and in 6.5 just a month or 2 ago, 10 thousandths difference between lot numbers in length. Now I understand lots will say that is nothing. If shooting for accuracy 10 thousandth in length, even the diameter was off instead of .264 were .259. Weight was off by quite a bit also. I contacted Hornady and they stated that was within their standards and would never be noticed?! No offer to reimburse or send another lot number. Like the guy in that department said, that lot passed on our inspection within our standards. Really?! Anyone loading and shooting for any kind of accuracy should know that is bull. I have a copy of the E-mail. So I say, Thank you to Tools and Thank you to Sierra for addressing a failure like that and not blowing smoke up the customers......butt.
      Thanks Tools sorry so long but I really wanted Sierra and you to know how Hornady treated a customer with a failure.
      Thanks for your time brother and effort.

      Myself, just a consumer and I've been shooting and loading a while. For my 308 bang for the buck is hard to beat on 175gr SMK. It shoots very well out to 1200 yards which counts good in my book. Gameking is an excellent hunting round which I use in 243 . It shoots itty bitty groups also. What can I say, 6.5 creed shoots the 130 Gamechanger in itty bitty holes. I have other bullets I use but Sierra is on for weight and length pretty much everytime and for distance that counts. Target shooting long range especially.

The ammo is impressive, but the REAL impressive part is Sierra contacting YOU, and not the other way around. People (and companies are just groups of people) can make mistakes. I bought this stuff in both 40 and 45. Tested both in 3", 4", and 5" barrels. Once completed, I decided to put the ammo in my carry firearms. The most impressive was the 45 ACP in the short barrel 3". The results were amazing.

    • @thealarmclock9307
      @thealarmclock9307 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah me too... I get jacket separation through 4 layers of denim. But it completely penetrated 4 layers, two water jugs , and lodged in the 2nd layer of my fleece backstop.
      Even with the jacket separation, that's good penetration for a projectile that expanded to over 3/4 of an inch... This is with a full size m&p. So I bet with the lower velocity of a short barrel, they would be perfect. Probably would hold their jacket, and penetrate even deeper. Although I suspect the expansion wouldn't be as extreme with the short barrel

      @@ToolsandTargets To be honest, you were my influence to try them out, after seeing your video. My curiosity got the best of me, and I went full Paul Harrell. A few racks of ribs, a couple water Melons, and a sliced up football (for skin affect), and they had incredible results. Subtract roughly 2 inches of penetration, and I would almost put them on the level of Ranger T (minus the sharps talon affect seen at the end of the flower) . Considering the price difference, it was an easy decision to make them a carry choice.
      The results seen from a 3” barrel were probably most impressive I’ve seen from a HP round vs the limited barrel length.
      This company is definitely going to be a force to reckon with in the future.

    I found this stuff for I belive just $8 a box when it first came out. So I thought worst case use it for cycle testing. It did cycle in everythig I have 100% no problem. It would even cycle a very tight double stack 1911.
    I got great results from a 5 inch 1911. It would expand and go deep. A little too deep. I figured it was for more like something for bigger tougher critters like bear, moose, or something like that. I still keep a mag of it in the truck and use it when we go camping.
    It is refreshing to see a company who responds to user feedback like this. (Take a hint Sig) I like your what you see is what you get way of doing things. Keep up the good work and thanks for the great content as always.

    Here we are at 8/16 2023 and they are STILL Clearing out the old stuff! Sports Master 380s at 9.95 a box still! Geez come on Sierra and Midway its been almost a year! They also have some bulk ,bare Sierra, and Sierra/ Sig V-Crown 9mm - 124 and 125 grain, bullets. The 125's are a longer HP bullet but use the same load data, supposedly. So I may buy 100 of each 124/5's and some 90gr for 380 and try to work up some loads, shoot some tests, but I don't have any high dollar gel, but I do have a new Pro- chrono, I may make some homemade Knox Gel someday. I could at least compare the brands I have against each other, and my reloads with it 😀 I hope they make those new better 9mm/380 hollowpoints someday ! ( It sounds like the end of the year before we will see these.

    Sierra is a really good company based in central Missouri (the Show Me State ) I am sure they are trying to make sure their bullets are as well as the can make them. The 3.5" barrel is costing you some velocity for sure but they should still expand. Sierra is known for their extremely accurate high power target and hunting rounds. I bet these expand better. I knew they would fix anything they could. Nice Job Sierra! Their sister company Starline Brass make really good brass as well! Great Testing Tools !

    Sierra is one of the best Bullet makers imo. It’s no surprise to me they got it figured out. After trying Hornady, Bergers, Nosler, as well as Sierra I have ended up with my best loads in 308, 6.5 CM, 6cm, and 223 all being with Sierra projectiles.
    308= 175 SMK
    6.5 CM = 142 SMK
    6cm = 107 smk
    223= 69 smk as well as 52 smk.
    Hornady and Berger has some nice shooting bullets as well, but overall Sierra does it better more often for me.

    They are using a good powder, the rounds i have tested have been stellar, and i have had to shoot some coyotes on the farm and their hollow points have been top notch for quick and clean kills no suffering which is more than i can say for those 50gr 2000fps liberty defense rounds that seem to impress in gel. The civil defense 50gr bullets explode on live targets and do alot of shallow damage, but that coyote ran a long way before dying and i don't like that to happen. The sierra 115gr hollow points even before these new rounds performed perfect on a live target but it may be because of the camp carbine much longer barrel giving higher velocities. I did test them in gel from the camp 9 but they still didn't quite expand and in a coyote they worked perfectly.

    • @ToolsandTargets
      @ToolsandTargets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These were extremely overpriced and underwhelming before they made these changes even out of as long as an 8 inch barrel. Even a 115 fmj would pretty effectively drop a coyote unless you're a horrible shot.
      At the end of the day, 99.9% of the ammo out there will do the job and this 9mm Sierra is definitely improved from the original design, but it's still not even close to the hollow point performance of many other rounds.
