For the past several years I have been having horrible nights. A bunch of cursed melons had been popping up randomly in my home through the nights. No matter what I did, they would keep coming back. I drove them across town and left them in a parking lot, I threw them over a cliff, I cut them up and put them in the disposer. Well, I got some of this ammo, took them out to the desert and took care of them. Haven't seen any melons since then. Thank you so much for this great video. It saved my life.
+GunsNpolitics That's a good point. You kill someone and have to go in front of a jury, the prosecuting attorney will make you out to be a blood thirsty psychopath for carrying a round call RIP. They will paint you as someone looking to kill a person. I'll stick to my Golden Sabers in 9mm and keep clear of this gimmick ammo.
+Ted yellowstone Good point! I could imagine the prosecutor saying "The defendant went into the ammo store and specifically requested...R...I...P.... Ammo. Your honor I rest my case.
Bill P the idea of this is to make sure they don’t make it to the ER... if you get hit with this you most likely will bleed out internally especially with 6 projectiles splitting off in multiple directions. And don’t forget one but projectile going deeper, so overall this ammo is great for self defense because I guarantee you that the attacker that is attacking you will stop moving towards you if he or she gets hit with this. It’s really deadly.
@@ItzCharlemagne The fact is, any bullet will make someone stop moving toward you. .. If that is your goal, then you don't need to make a bloody mess of the guy. Just a big and painful impact on his chest. Any standard hollow-point in .380 will do exactly than. This round is made for one purpose. To kill.. The funny part will come when the bad guy has them too.
@@ItzCharlemagne No, in your own words.." .. the idea of this is to make sure they don’t make it to the ER... " That is shooting with intent to kill. AKA Manslaughter one. Good luck with the liberal judge.
This video is spot on with my feelings about carrying my ruger .380 I wasn’t 100% comfortable, tried others including the ruger 9mm just to much gun to carry all the time, stopped at my local gun shop one day and the owner showed me these RIP rounds in .380 cal. took em home and tested these against bull nose and hollow points WOW the fragmentation was impressive, all i carry now .380 RIP, solved my dilemma 💯💯💯
If I remember correctly, the majority of hangun bullet deaths are not immediate, but from bleeding out. This round looks like it could potentially expedite that, since each of those petals going in a different direction would increase the likelihood of a severed artery.
Perhaps. Depends upon certain factors. Those petals create wound channels which are comparatively shallower and smaller in diameter and from the many gunshot victims I have seen, swelling occurs quickly further narrowing those channels. Many were not frontal torso hits as with this testing. My own preference is a bonded bullet that provides the penetration and expansion desirable by FBI standards. They are deemed more knowledgeable than most. Hence the mass flight back to 9mm by many law enforcement agencies. A true tale of two shootings with an unrelated caliber, the 5.56, illustrate while each shooting is unique. Our tactical team was tracking an attempted murder suspect in a heavy wooded area in the summer. The perpetrator earlier attempted to kill his wife with 12 gauge #4 shot at almost point blank range. He hit the pillar and headrest and miraculously his wife escaped injury. They encountered the suspect who had secreted himself in the canopy of a large fallen tree and was firing at their position. He was exposing only his lower body. An officer fired hitting him once in the right testicular and the bullet continued out his left buttock. He was shot with a 55 grain bonded soft point. That was the only target of opportunity. Not center of mass but a one shot stop none the less since the suspect disarmed himself and was screaming in agony for help. In another case a wanted murder suspect was being sought and was subsequently encountered by a patrol officer at a park and ride. The officer called for back up without the suspects knowledge he was being surveilled. Unfortunately, before back up arrived the suspect attempted to leave the area. The officer blocked his vehicle and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The officer struck the suspect in the cell phone which was in his chest pocket. He fired two more follow up shots hitting the suspect in the abdomen. The first shot failed to enter the chest cavity the second two immediately incapacitated the suspect with devastating injuries, including the loss of some intestine and bladder resulting in a colostomy. That suspect was shot within a 77 grain OTM that was designed to fragment. Since then we have moved to 55 grain bonded jacketed soft point bullets. You never know.
For sure a bad day for mr.jackboy. If even one of those trail cars spreads in the chest area you immediately got maybe 12 months to get that looked at before hosanna or sumn come get you
@@kabobl-brewster1612 Nope, but bad people will continue ending up dead from .45ACP pistols. I own more 45's than all other caliber pistols I have. It is very popular as a defense and competition cartridge.
Great testing gents!! Dad had rough 7.62X25 Tokarev, looked like hell, but couldn't miss. Only 4 so not too pretty sharp, 1st pistol ever shot, but KO'd 3 rats in row. Dad told me old pistol was magic! Later '54 dragged to 1st Army 9th Armored Div reunion where we was mobbed. WW2, Dad took bridge over Rhine w/BAR, Ammo Carrier, 2400rnds in drag bag, 12 grenades, and twice liberated Tokarev. At bridge liberated 2 Kraut rain ponchos, slipped in behind 2200+ man army retreating to defend bridge, shot off rear corners of formation on single-shot, when last 80 or so looked back, rest of formation sleepin' on bridge, so bailed into RR tunnel in far bank. Counterattacked thrice but repelled each time, using grenades + pistol for last as BAR melted. 50 or so left + 70 Remagen Civilians became Prisoners. 2 hrs later, rest of 1st Army appeared & Dad captured by Lt as Enemy Infiltrator in U.S. Uniform. Next AM, Dad rescued by phone call from Ike Supreme Commander as Gen of 1st Army Hoge was preparing Execution Order to end his career. Dad was PFC in 1st Army 9th Armored, but had been on loan to Monte in Africa, then Ike on D-Day training for all Allied Troops + Sherman had just blown sht outta bridge deck at far tower where Dad stripping demo charges out to preserve bridge. Dad & Uniform decimated, so hard to recognize. Hoge shocked when found executing his own man, & to make matters worse Ike asked him how his G2 film on bridge taking was coming along! I was at White House when Ike told Dad his taking of bridge shaved at least 6 mos off end of war, Germans & Japs both had their "Trinity Tests", & Japs agreed to share Sub Launchers with Hitler who would share Nuclear Materials with Japs. AND: Historians to this day can't finger out how bridge taken w/no G.I.s lost...Good Little Tokarev!!! Erwin out....
When I first saw the R.I.P. cartridge on the internet and how it performed, I had to wonder what it would be like to be a survivor of a hit from one of those in the E.R. The surgeons would be chasing all those wound channels from the petals all through your body. It would be a nightmare for the surgeons, and much worse if you took more than one hit. I like the idea of the R.I.P., but for now am carrying hollow points. More expansion, better weight retention, bigger wound channel. Even if my hollow point does get clogged up with clothing, the .40 will still do it's job.
Hey! I know this comment is rather old but it reminded me of my college forensics class from this past year. We studied bullet ballistics and looked at a Philadelphia PD shooting involving .40. The officers used Glock 22’s and shot the suspect around 20 times with Speer Gold Dot 180gr and he survived the initial gunfight. He wasn’t high on drugs, but it was actually the multiple jackets that slowed and clogged the rounds down. It took 62gr .223 to finally incapacitate him with ankle shots. Definitely a crazy situation!
Corey Toolen I believe its non-lead ammo, copper I think. that's whys why its only 64 grain instead of 94. Also he slices a piece off that had no contact with the bullet.
I spoke with a guy that had been shot in the arm. He still had the entire bullet in his arm. The doctors didn't remove it. Just told him that his body will probably push it out as it heals. OR, he was a thug and got shot by some drug dealer and never went to the hospital and was just making crap up to make it seem like he wasn't a scumbag.
***** It's made from copper. As for lead projectiles, personally, when shooting to eat, I only head shoot. But I've eaten many a rabbit that has been shotgunned and you can just spit the pellets out. It's common practice. I've swallowed many over the last 30 odd years, too. No issue. Nor did our ancestors have any.
***** lead isn't tremendously poisonous in its pure metallic state. its the compounds you have to worry about more. i wouldn't put lead in my mouth, and i avoid handling it without gloves but you shouldn't be afraid of it like you should with beryllium or arsenic.
I think NOBODY has ever seen any round do a better job on a ballistics gel. The immediate splitting apart into many wound channels right out the gate upon entry! That right there is going to busy the paramedics crew and force them to tell the perp that his chances don't look so good. All from a simple light cheap round in a tiny frame daily conceal carry gun that can hold a good number of rounds. Ammo cheap enough to allow you to shoot daily comfortably. No recoil flinch. keep target in sight picture. Deadly perfect perfect perfect. BRAVO! I'm sold!
@@MilezAwxy do the people who this vid is targeted for know that? of course not. that's why it would have been a good idea so you know how they compare to each other.
@@ConvictJ96 they should. If you have a basic understanding in firearms you know a solid chunk is gonna penetrate, while something that has a hole in the middle and is cut is going to break and shatter on impact. You learn this in school.
I must admit i stopped by to watch one video and now im a fan. I just recently bought my first gun and your channel is full of knowledge. Not just blabbing numbers and names but making it clear for me to understand and i love the mock scenarios. It puts everything into perspective. I even like the guests opinions even when they do t match yours. Its good to see all opinions especially when everyone has their statistics to back it up. Peace brother and keep up the good work 🤘🏼
People say this is a crap round for self defense, however people don't necessarily consider the physics. Say that this round delivers X amount of energy downrange, people get overly concerned about penetration, "This only goes in 12" and won't do enough damage, it doesn't create as long a wound channel in the ballistics gel, it's worthless.". Consider the fact that the X amount of energy in this moving projectile is fully expended in ONE target, one body. If you have a bullet that punches a 20" hole in gel, you lose a large amount of the energy (proportional to stopping power) in the bullet that continues on out of the target. You may have a .40 S&W that delivers 1.5X amount of damage, but only half of that is expended in the target, giving you .75X worth's of damage as opposed to the G2 R.I.P. ammo's 1X worth's. Not to mention it is safer in the case of accidental injury from over-penetration. It's all science.
Expending 100% of the kinetic energy delivered by a round is the general idea of shooting someone IF necessity dictates they be shot. So i am in agreement with your assessment Jake. Other factors not generally touched on in these vids or by the commenters (i am sure you are aware of this) is that the human body being mostly water, at the point of impact a hydraulic shock is sent through the surrounding soft tissue causing capillary burst, as well as secondary tissue damage. Even a small round such as the .380 (my EDC BTW) that delivers 100% of its kinetic energy upon impact in this RIP or even a Hydrashok, or a ballistic tip hollow-point is far superior to any FMJ round for self defense. I actually prefer the ballistic tip rounds in mine for the above stated reasons. Sure i may have to mop up more blood in the living room if a burglar pays a visit, but i prefer there not be an exit wound, dont want to hit the big screen TV and i have ceramic tile floors.
Agree. I'm no ballistic expert, but I can understand your point. When the bullet doesn't pass through, the target absorbs 100% of the energy. Lower risk of the bullet passing through and possibly hitting something else.
I enjoyed the part of your review with the ballistic gel test, especially with the slow motion camera. It allows me to see the temporary wound channel and the hydro-shock aspects of the effects of the bullet. Personally, I can’t understand why people like to see a bullet over-penetrate a target.
Interesting part of the RIP round. The bottom part (the one going through the melons and what not not the trocars), is the driving force OF the trocars. It pushes the trocars through the air, then when the trocars STOP and the base is moving still does it break the trocars as the base keeps going, this causes it to launch the petals. This simply means the petals lose their driving force and as such stop pretty quickly regardless of the medium they are in, but ONLY after a certain Foot pound and energy threshold to snap them occurs. This means they won't separate in low strength mediums like denim and maybe drywall and such. But they WILL expand on human flesh and organs when under the hydrostatic shock. People seem to confuse the trocars stopping after 3 to 5 inches in ballistics gel as being to weak penetration in a person. I guess they think the 15 inches of gel being equal to 3 to 5 inches in a person means the pellets that stop in 2 to 5 inches won't even penetrate an inch in a person. But I have seen people shoot through PIG RIBS and MEAT after 4 layers of denim and it does just what it does in gel. It expands after hitting the bone, and pens 3 to 5 inches with the petals after and keeps going. Aka it pens while the trocars are bending, then they get thrown off and act like high drag needles that stop when they start turning sideways. Little torpedos that stop after their get too much drag force on them. That was shown when it penned the denim AND bone AND meat, AND then went into the gel and stopped about as far as before give or take an inch. So this means, the petals will actually penetrate roughly the same in a humans as it does the gel, unlike what people would expect. Essentially people assume the round has low pen because the police want 15 or 16 inches of pen. RIP. Round requires a certain amount of energy to cause it to fracture and once that's achieved the fracture happens. Humans ARE NOT 15 or 16 inches that is true, but that round seems just fine going through pig and bird bones and still through ballistics gel and meat after(another youtuber did pigs). I guess people with terrible aim, who fear shooting peoples hands for some reason think a solid expanding hollow point won't ALSO flatten out early in the bones of the hand and then hit the wall of air after the human hand and arm? Like, won't a 9mm round expanding to like 14mm also travel 1 foot through air THEN try to pen someone's ribs after? At least when the rip round goes through someone's arm, it leaves behind its trocars as pin needles each with .04 width at 1250 speed with decent spread destroying the hand and arm completely while remaining its now actually SMALLER than 9mm self. Those trocars then leave the arm and shred into the body behind it with 8 needles that slip through the ribcage and into the lungs and heart, while the base cracks the ribs and fractures the bones. It seems like if I did plan on shooting someone's elbow and forearm, I would want a round that was more likely to MISS the other bones and just go into organs after than the 14mm expanded 9mm round that is highly likely to hit 1 or 2 ribs at once and just completely stop with no more damage done. I don't know. I just kinda thought the ability to avoid the bones and just take out the organs would yield a better result if we are using low power handguns. Why did I bring a hand gun and not a shotty or rifle if I was going to have bad shot placement AND need to penetrate terrain/obstructions/armors AND multiple bones at once.
Yes, this round does what it is designed to do. The problem is that what it was designed to do is not as good as what standard hollow points already do. The round looks cool. Yes. But I would be concerned about malfunctions feeding. Also, looks do not translate into performance but they do translate into premium prices. If I were to carry a ,380 I think the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator in 380 is a very good choice. Just my opinion. 10 inches of penetration is just not going to do it. I don't want to get hit with one but for self defense I'd feel much more comfortable with more penetration in gel (12+, 15 ideal, over 18 a little much but better more than less.) Also, the wound left behind by that round seems much smaller than the wound left behind by more standard hollow points. All that aside, thank you for the video. Good work. Keep em coming! Pew!! Pew!!
Video is just meant to be fun. It's a cool little round but in all honesty I think it's an issue of being 380 than anything else. I like 380 but I would likely carry a 9mm at a minimum
It’s not meant to go through your body it’s meant to expand and cause internal damage. I’ve seen .380 Xtreme penetrator rounds go straight through a gel block, with ribs and shirt in front of it
This is a 62 grain bullet don’t expect it to go far into anything without tearing apart. Most .380 rounds are 90-110 grain bullets which have a lot more momentum due to the mass of them. (Edit) Also they’re hollow points I bet a heavier hollow point would make it through. Although the .380 seems to have problems expanding those heavier JHP so it probably isn’t a fair test.
I was a the door to door salesman 35 years &all kinds of crazy neighborhoods, when I retired got into my sixties then I got a carry permit(FL) in my class of 12 people, Couple come up & go you sold us our vacuum 20 yrs ago but I carry Bersa 380s because I can't handle the nines easily. Good to see that the 380s strong enough round & yes it's going to be up close and personal. Which I hope I NEVER see the day I'm getting in an actual shooting with a person.
Be as it may I find it very refreshing that you shoot your rounds from a realistic distance and not like 2 ft away from the ballistics gel like a lot do cuz that's not a realistic example of what around can do at the proper distance
Just bought a box for my Llama .380. I'm always worried about over penetration like I get with my .45 Llama. This will greatly reduce that worry. Thank you. With the work I do, you always have to be aware of over penetration, and possible unintentional victims in the background due to and over penetration. This round GREATLY reduces those chances. Yes you still have to be aware of possible unintentional victims in the background as you ALWAYS should.
Ian Jacob extream penetration is the last you really want in a self defence ammo though.. i mean you cant be sure of whats behind the badguy, know your target and beond and all
In my 380 my first round is a G2 Rip (loaded in chamber). The rest of my magazine filled with Hornody Critical Defense. I would be firing at least 2 shots to defend myself anyway. Figure it's the best of both worlds. People claim it's a gimmick round but as others have said I certainly wouldn't want to be hit by one. But I find my 380 does not feed them smoothly due to their sharp edges. This is a common problem for RIP rounds. Make sure you test a magazine or two before to make sure they feed properly.
I love my pocket 380 and at the range they are made for, I am very confident with it. Like I tell my wife, just keep shooting until the gun is empty and reload....I have plenty of room to carry a spare mag
Yeah I would still prefer Federal HSTs over this round any day of the week. Good to see company's doing research and coming out with new things though.
drtrolish Federal doesn't make an HST in .380acp.. only 9, .40, and .45.. They are and always will be my preferred carry round in my pistols.. my g17 is holdin 20 9mm+p 147's...
PistolWhip Yeah you might want to try that again. Since they do make a 380 HST. Just in case you'll wish to argue here's a link www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/02/04/federals-new-380-acp-round/ My preferred round in 380 is the Lehigh xtreme pentrators
PistolWhip LoL. I've had ppl argue with me over them. _Especially if they are long time HST fan's._ The 380 HST was the first 380 cartridge I used before I switched the Lehigh Defense xtreme penetrators.
Exactly, spyderxtra777! I mean, yeah, there may be some argument to be made about what material a round can penetrate from what it cannot, but the mere sound of gunfire signals to anyone with an iota of cognizance & even to most predatory animals that there is some serious danger afoot when gunfire is sounding! And, yeah, anyone who can imagine what it could be like to get hit by a speeding projectile of any size is going to be somewhat deterred even when it is the muzzle end of a supposedly lowly .380 pointed in their direction. And, yeah, there is going to be some bleeding & pain to whosoever gets hit by a fired .380 round, whether it be the "R.I.P." or not! People can be so ridiculous at times, particularly when unrelentingly defending a clearly indefensible position. It cannot be reasonably argued that it is better to be without any weapon whatsoever when being robbed or burglarized or carjacked or homicidally jumped than to be with a .380 or, for that matter, a 22!
My grandpa smoked a buck naked guy on pcp climbing through kitchen. He took 6 fmj .38 to torso and ran nearly a 1/4 mile. Later died in a bush. So yes, sometimes they are naked as a jaybird? Awesome round. Great video!
I recently read something about judges using this against defendants when they have to defend themselves. "Why use RIP rounds? That's cruel and unusual!" Of course we know that's a defense round but a jury may see different. USCCA posted a good video about this topic.
Let's see. You shot turkey legs, watermelon, cantelope, honey dews, hams and 2 liters of soda. You should be proud, boys. You destroyed a perfectly good picnic and pissed off a bunch of Vegans. :)
This is a home defense round and more than just effective; since only idiots depend on one round to drop an attacker. Any body shot below the rib cage will stop the attack, and two hits dead. This round has much less chance to harm anyone outside of your apartment. I'm sure that a shot directed to the groin will remove the package and shred the femoral artery ...
That would not surprise me. In my personal experiences with .380s some of them are really picky about ammo shape. Mine (a ppk clone) eats anything you put into it. My best friend's sig only shoots hollow points and round noses, and will not reliably feed a flat point FMJ. My sister's .380 doesn't like winchester, but the same load in Fiocci or federal runs just fine, which makes even less sense to me. If I were to guess, its due to mine being a fixed barrel, the sig's being a rocking one, and my sisters gun being a budget gun.
Derek Martinez I am pleased with mine. I have a friend with one who had their front sight fall off. Now knowing them they dropped it on the front sight and blamed the firearm for it breaking. I only ever say what my personal experiences are with my personal firearm. With my personal bersa firestorm it strangely is one of my favorite ones to shoot. It works. It isn’t picky and has enough overall average accuracy with all Ammo I’ve used with it at 5-10 meters
After working in surgery for over 15 years those hams are far denser than a body- - here’s why - - the abdominal muscles, even in a well exercised body isn’t equal to half the thickness of just one hams! The organs in our bodies are more like layering cooked wide pasta strips. A spleen will fall apart by just pressing to hard on it. The intestinal track ( all 20+ feet) can be picked up - and pulled aside with care but remember they loop over around itself. Just one small part of the round will make a huge repair job for the ER surgeon. Each little is nick, cut of the bowl is putting germs into the abdominal cavity & if that isn’t fixed ASAP - Only God can repair them. What a great round!
I have the little Kel Tec .380 and I like it a ton. Way too much false negatives are thrown around about this round. Between the RIP ammo and the Lehigh Defense rounds (I'd like to see them side by side), it is pretty well guaranteed to ruin someone's day. Remember, the .380 is just a 9mm short. The lack of charge has been more than made up by new powder and projectile technologies. As a back up, small carry for light clothing, easy to hide, lack of encomberment, good for smaller/weaker shooters and just plain fun... This is a great round and goes well with the world's lightest .380. Shooting is believing for the round and the Kel Tec, as well. Thanks for all the good vids, guys.
Great defensive ammo. However, I would test it in the firing range in quick succession just to be sure there are no jamming issues before loading it as a bedside defensive round.
My experience with defense ammo has been limited to Lehigh Defense Extreme Penetrator, Precision One HP/XTP, Federal HST, Hornaday XTP, Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown, Speer Gold Dot, and Magtech Guardian Gold with the Federal HST’s penetration, expansion, and consistency taking 1st place. I’m anxious to try out the G2’s offerings. I’m not surprised by the lack of substantial penetration of the G2’s performance due to the expansion of the trocars slowing the round down upon impact and initial penetration. Great vids! keep them coming.
I carry the Glock 42 with RIP rounds. I have complete confidence that it will eliminate the threat I'm aiming at, without Blue-Crossing bystanders. Of course I would never stop with one shot. If an intruder is worth shooting once, he's worth shooting multiple times.
This is the comment I expect when I watch a gun video, a way of saying “once I decide I have a reason to shoot I’m gonna make sure I go full apeshit and have my fun” in a less appalling way lol. Way to drag us down bud.
I thought the whole idea of these rounds was to stop a perpetrator and not have the round go through, possibly injuring or killing an innocent person who might be behind them.
utubetommy You seem to be the only one that gets it. Self defense rounds are not designed to kill buffalo. Over penetration is a very dangerous issue in a public environment. I want any shot into a threat to stop in the threat. The threat will be dead with this round in a few seconds with proper shot placement. The threat will be dead from bleed out in a few minutes with this round otherwise. I have been using Ruger ARX myself. Good video.
I agree with you. I keep thinking of a scenario where I'm with my wife in a crowded restaurant, and some drug addict comes in and whips out a gun. If I use a regular round and shoot him, the round could possibly penetrate through him and into some customer behind. I wouldn't want to have killing an innocent bystander on my conscience, even if the criminal was stopped and died. Of course, the other scenario under those circumstances would be that the criminal lived and the bystander behind him died. Not a great situation. So I want a round that penetrates into the body of the criminal but does not exit. I know there's a lot of self defense rounds out there, all claiming to be the best. One will never know for sure unless/until one is in that situation. Hopefully that will never happen, but the likelihood of that happening grows each day.
utubetommy well the other side to that is even if it does hit a bystander, shooting and killing the attacker saved the lives of others. Still, not the best scenario, but it's better than nothing or under penetrating and risking him shooting overs before it stops him
it may be a bit of a marketing gimmick but i have seen a guy get hit in the left side of the neck where it meets the shoulder. im pretty sure he would disagree with the gimmick thing considering it blew a softball sized chunk out of him, well he'd disagree if he was still alive. but fuck him, that's what you get when you try to rob my buddys house at gunpoint.
daneg007 If you hit someone with ANYTHING in soft tissue like that, you will kill them, the problem with RIP is that humans are not pretty clear ballistic gel dummies. hell you see that round get stopped by a freaking dr thunder bottle and a watermelon, god helo you if you have to shoot through a thick winter jacket or heaven forbid the guy is carrying something! you fire a Critical Duty hollow point, ball ammo, or ANY other 380 round at that range and it would have caused enough of a wound to kill a man.,..AND you dont have to worry about hitting him center mass and ending up with a .22 weight base being the only thing going deep enough to harm him.
Dies1r4e Exactly. The main function of this round is to look pretty in ballistics gel. You can tell how little damage this round does by the fact that the permanent wound channels it creates are so small. Large, permanent wound channels are what cause rapid incapacitation.
Have you checked out lehigh defense extreme penetrator .380? Its designed to create a large permanent cavity while still penatrating like a standard lead fmj. Cool shit man
Too much flat surface area on the front of the bullet. They strip out of the mag, lack a round nose, so jam horizontally into your feed ramp. At least they do on my .380’s. Test them on yours, because when they feed, they are awesome. Those pedals fly off right at the proper heart depth.
In my opinion, the RIP ammo is a gimmick-- those petals aren't really causing any collateral damage, they're just annoying the surgeon who has to remove them. I'd rather stick with the Hornady Critical Defense or the Speer Gold Dot, and since my father carries a .380 (against my objections to go 9mm), proven performance and his safety are my tops on my list of priorities. I think the .380 takes some unnecessary flack, it can pack a punch for sure. However, I like you how you presented this test, and paint can/watermelon explosions are never wrong. As always, carry and shoot what you're comfortable and accurate with. I'd rather dad have a .380 than just a pocketful of car keys and lint. As to the soda bottle penetration...Yeah, they're pretty tough when the cap is on and there's fluid inside. If the cap had been off or loose, it wouldn't have surprised me if that .380 base had passed right into it. The fluid displaces the air, and the air/water pushes back against the plastic and acts like a slingshot, absorbing the energy, and sending it back.
Butch Harner During a crisis situation, with adrenaline pumping, increased heart rate, tunnel vision, etc., while moving and while simultaneously engaging a moving target makes what you're suggesting next to impossible.
my point is that with such a rapid expansive round femoral or corrtal attires are not DRT btu fast killers. the problem is clothig and or rib bones makig one mod the shootig tatic when usig such a fast openig round (shooti for soft tissue and less cloth then makes sence)
@@lrharner Fast killers. Meaning minutes. If you can hit such a small and potentially moving target. You want immediate incapacitation if possible. See the FBI shooting in 1986, among others. The suspects were hit with unsurvivable shots according to the M.E. They lived long enough to kill two and wound numerous agents. I am not sold on wound Channels from little petals that swelling with likely close. I have seen many gunshot victims and swelling occurs quickly choking off much of the channel. I’ll take energy, penetration, and expansion any day.
yeah... i have to agree with everyone else. There is a pretty good selection self defense ammo in .380. This stuff would be at the absolute bottom of my list. I am very fond of light and fast instead of heavy and slow. But this is just not effective.
+BUDS: The Animated Series I listen to police transmissions on my scanner on some weekend evenings for kicks. I can confirm there are many more naked people running around causing mayhem than I am comfortable with. LOL
where do you buy the R.I.P. ammo? I would like to get a box for my conceal carry .380 I used to carry a .40 subcompact Glock, but found my ruger .380 easier when hiking. As a female who walks alone with her dog, I would like the best defense bullet and this one looks like a stopper.
Update I just found a local gun store that could order it for me. And I ordered a box of the 62 grain I believe. The problem is they asked me if I had seen any reviews or knew if it performed well in the type of gun that I had. They were concerned about feed issues and that's why they stopped carrying it. Do you have any opinions on it inside of a .380 Ruger LCP? Looked everywhere and I don't see anyone testing it with it. Hoping for the best! Subscribed!
Wow, some folks have a real problem with these guys just doing fun tests. I have wanted to see the RIP ammo in some tests, now I have, with a bit of fun. They were not trying that hard to sell the ammo, else they would have drawn more comparisons. Get a life. Nobody ought to buy the ammo anyway, the cost/benefit is nonexistent. The price is double the price of high quality defense rounds. I don't care if the ammo is a gimmick or kryptonite, it's price is a bad joke and only a gullible fool buys it.
Giovanni Castro I probably wouldn't, either, but due to some of the unburned powder and other contaminants. Still, I'd much rather EAT the fruit than BE the fruit!
The wife of a deceased friend Gave me his never used Colt 1908 hammerless is pistol. The Carbonna Blue finish is authentic, and is 100% complete with no scratches or Abrasions. The hammer mechanism needs new parts however. It was fascinating to find out this was the very first gun to use another invention of John Moses browning; the 380 ACP round.

Omg, I didn't even notice. 😂
Could you imagine trying to explain the use of ammo called R.I.P. to a jury full of 50 year old women?
+GunsNpolitics That's a good point. You kill someone and have to go in front of a jury, the prosecuting attorney will make you out to be a blood thirsty psychopath for carrying a round call RIP. They will paint you as someone looking to kill a person. I'll stick to my Golden Sabers in 9mm and keep clear of this gimmick ammo.
museack It's not about the look of the round. It's about the name of it. Everyone knows what R.I.P. means.
museack Maybe.
+Ted yellowstone Good point! I could imagine the prosecutor saying "The defendant went into the ammo store and specifically requested...R...I...P.... Ammo.
Your honor I rest my case.
+Chris Watson hahaha xD
I’d hate to be the ER doc who has dig out all those fragments.
I hate being the person he's digging it out of.
Tim Hallas this bullet is just extra precaution.
If even one of those trail cars spreads in the chest area you immediately got maybe 12 months to get that looked at before hosanna or sumn come get you
lol if you shoot a .45 ACP R.I.P. at a watermelon it will slice it in triangles! awesome round to keep handy when in the kitchen!

Hoge replied, "Film has just been cancelled General". At Reunion, they all had to touchie feelie the Tokarev Magic Pistol, & none of them mentioned it looked like piece of junk as just may have saved their own lives! Significance was Ike had been noticed of Manhattan, so sent Dad, "Emergency - End War Now" message. Dad not educated man, so only thing could think of was take bridge NOW, attack heart of Germany, Hitler surrenders! I was at White House when Ike told Dad his taking of bridge shaved at least 6 mos off end of war, Germans & Japs both had their "Trinity Tests", & Japs agreed to share Sub Launchers with Hitler who would share Nuclear Materials with Japs. Nukes were nearly trialed in London, NYC, D.C., L.A.& San Fran, instead of Japan! Good little Tokarev...you so purdy!!!
Even if my hollow point does get clogged up with clothing, the .40 will still do it's job.
nice, my sad has a vector sp2 ultra sport in 40
I use Norma MHP'S in mine. It has far better performance.
It would suck to be the Dr. that had to dig all that shit out.
***** I bet that makes having an MRI a challenge. Thankfully the plates in my head are non-magnetic. LOL
Doubt it. Any doctor that can count to 3 would remove any round.
I doubt you are a doctor. :rolls eyes: Fucking know-it-alls.

Would have been nice to compare this round to standard FMJ ammo.
FMJ obviously is gonna have more penetration/larger exit wounds.

Why not shooting 9mm R.I.P. ammo from a 43 instead of .380 from 42. I WANT ANOTHER REVIEW ON THE GLOCK 43!
you should test the Lehigh extreme penetrator in .380
Seems like the perfect .380 carry ammo.
Jake Wagner, telling all of the armchair ballistics trolls that is pointless.
Gives a very different meaning to getting ripped on the weekend… no recovering from that!
I enjoyed the part of your review with the ballistic gel test, especially with the slow motion camera. It allows me to see the temporary wound channel and the hydro-shock aspects of the effects of the bullet. Personally, I can’t understand why people like to see a bullet over-penetrate a target.
That was fun, loved the spray paint cans n road flare combo!
Great video demonstration! Sure makes me believe that a .380 with the correct ammunition can be a very effective defensive handgun!
I think Jacob is pissed that he was torn away from his Minecraft...
"All right Jacob, wha-da-ya think there"?
Jacob: SHRUGS.
Why did I bring a hand gun and not a shotty or rifle if I was going to have bad shot placement AND need to penetrate terrain/obstructions/armors AND multiple bones at once.
why isn't there a normal hollow point for comparison?
It looks clearly different then a hollow point, maybe.

@Jan Kenwood Only against light weight .380 RIP rounds. Most hollow points will plow through them and keep on moving.

With the work I do, you always have to be aware of over penetration, and possible unintentional victims in the background due to and over penetration. This round GREATLY reduces those chances. Yes you still have to be aware of possible unintentional victims in the background as you ALWAYS should.

Respect to Eric for bringing his step-son into another vid. Respect to Jacob for nailing the target on-cam.
I wouldn't want to get hit with that! It would totally suck to get shot 6 times with a bb gun and once with a .22lr!

popoaggie hahaha
I got triggered because some of that Cantelope and Ham would make a nice snack right now.
Common foods found in communities where .380s are prevalent. Kind of surprised they didn't use it on some jugs of grape juice.
😂
Just pissing off Vegans would be enough for me.
Thank you for your informative video sir, and also thank you for your service in the armed forces! God bless you and your family!
Great job guys! Any chance you could run some RIP 380acp through an M&P Bodyguard? Heard of lots of problems with that combo.
Defense against fruit is an actual Monty Python Sketch. Very entertaining. Thanks.
Great video. To the point, and fun to watch those petals of evil wreak havoc! I like your style. :)
You never know who’s carrying this bullet. Just be nice to everyone just in case😂
An armed society is a polite society
@@brankomilicevic6904no it’s one where everyone is afraid of each other. And one where everyone’s finger is always on the trigger.
I'm in Idaho, I'd say it's a polite society 😅
I have over 600 rip rounds. Stocked up a few years ago. 😂
Or hide behind a watermelon I'll stick to my critical defense.
I have heard a lot about feed issues with this ammo, the most important thing in a bullet is that it fires in a emergency situation.
@@takingbacktoxic7898 yours wouldn't happen to be a Bersa 380, would it?
Derek Martinez yes it is
@@takingbacktoxic7898 it's on my shopping list! I'm assuming from your above comment that you're pleased with it
Derek Martinez I am pleased with mine.
I've always liked 380's as a ccw. With the right ammo, I'm comfortable with arming my wife who's only 4'11, weighing 100 lbs with this weapon
So, in effect you could hide behind a fruit cart when someone is shooting at you with this gimmick. lol
you know zero
+Firepoint Rinehart hahaha, ditto.
take one to your chest and tell me it's a gimmick
SeniorB I'll just giggle because I was holding a watermelon.
***** Oh right I forgot, because most people walk around carrying fruit, my bad.
Hahaha, best part "bad guys don't run around nekked" lol.
But hey, sometimes bad guys do run around naked!
N words on pcp do that all the time
My takeaway, wtermelon body armor will protect you from a .380 RIP round.
Great defensive ammo. However, I would test it in the firing range in quick succession just to be sure there are no jamming issues before loading it as a bedside defensive round.
I love my OMT backup and I trust it with my life. It may be even older than I am but I never had an issue with it and it it has always fired straight.
RIP ammo is exclusively for idiots with more money than sense. Just use a regular JHP and don't endanger yourself with this crap.
Love your videos...you guys have way too much fun! Keep em coming!

Great video. If an RIP .380 can cause that much damage,a .45acp RIP round would be devastating I think.
I shot a piece of hard wood it looked like a huge bite with sharp teeth
My experience with defense ammo has been limited to Lehigh
Defense Extreme Penetrator, Precision One HP/XTP, Federal HST, Hornaday XTP,
Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown, Speer Gold Dot, and Magtech Guardian Gold with the
Federal HST’s penetration, expansion, and consistency taking 1st place.
I’m anxious to try out the G2’s offerings. I’m not surprised by the lack
of substantial penetration of the G2’s performance due to the expansion of the
trocars slowing the round down upon impact and initial penetration. Great vids! keep them coming.
I carry the Glock 42 with RIP rounds. I have complete confidence that it will eliminate the threat I'm aiming at, without Blue-Crossing bystanders. Of course I would never stop with one shot. If an intruder is worth shooting once, he's worth shooting multiple times.
Nancy Merrell-R that is deadly
better than nothing I guess
This is the comment I expect when I watch a gun video, a way of saying “once I decide I have a reason to shoot I’m gonna make sure I go full apeshit and have my fun” in a less appalling way lol. Way to drag us down bud.
Welp then you're probly an idiot that fell for a lot of other scams too 😂🤣
I have a shamwow for you too
I thought the whole idea of these rounds was to stop a perpetrator and not have the round go through, possibly injuring or killing an innocent person who might be behind them.
The pieces that break off typically won't exit as they tumble around inside the target's body and cause severe damage
TheRealPDizzle Good to know. Thanks.
utubetommy You seem to be the only one that gets it.
Still, not the best scenario, but it's better than nothing or under penetrating and risking him shooting overs before it stops him
Nothing but a marketing gimmick. I'll stick to standard hardball if I have to carry a .380 pistol.
it may be a bit of a marketing gimmick but i have seen a guy get hit in the left side of the neck where it meets the shoulder. im pretty sure he would disagree with the gimmick thing considering it blew a softball sized chunk out of him, well he'd disagree if he was still alive. but fuck him, that's what you get when you try to rob my buddys house at gunpoint.
daneg007 If you hit someone with ANYTHING in soft tissue like that, you will kill them, the problem with RIP is that humans are not pretty clear ballistic gel dummies. hell you see that round get stopped by a freaking dr thunder bottle and a watermelon, god helo you if you have to shoot through a thick winter jacket or heaven forbid the guy is carrying something! you fire a Critical Duty hollow point, ball ammo, or ANY other 380 round at that range and it would have caused enough of a wound to kill a man.,..AND you dont have to worry about hitting him center mass and ending up with a .22 weight base being the only thing going deep enough to harm him.
Dies1r4e
Exactly.
Cool shit man
PeaceManBro
Yes, I like that round.
RIP round makes me rethink the 380 for self defense. I thank you guys for this review.
Too much flat surface area on the front of the bullet. They strip out of the mag, lack a round nose, so jam horizontally into your feed ramp. At least they do on my .380’s. Test them on yours, because when they feed, they are awesome. Those pedals fly off right at the proper heart depth.
So this round is effective against mellon-headed fools.🤔
@Danny Hemphill LMFAO 😂
2:29 creeping
Same
shots to the upper thigh and guts then throat should be super effective
You guys are simply marketers of everything thrown your way.
yeah... i have to agree with everyone else. There is a pretty good selection self defense ammo in .380. This stuff would be at the absolute bottom of my list. I am very fond of light and fast instead of heavy and slow. But this is just not effective.
Ive been told these are a doctors nightmare.
I looked at the Glock 43 380, but it was just to big to carry. I went with the Ruger LCP.
Please don't judge all bad guys...some DO run around naked ;-)
+BUDS: The Animated Series I listen to police transmissions on my scanner on some weekend evenings for kicks. I can confirm there are many more naked people running around causing mayhem than I am comfortable with. LOL
@@EbenezarGold It is good to know that any of the loads in the video would be effective on naked bad guys.

The irony testing r.i.p rounds wearing a grim reaper shirt
where do you buy the R.I.P.
Hoping for the best!

my lc9 and 9mm rip is my carry but sadly no one fucks with me haven't had a chance to shoot
Michael Trevino wtf
Wow, some folks have a real problem with these guys just doing fun tests. I have wanted to see the RIP ammo in some tests, now I have, with a bit of fun. They were not trying that hard to sell the ammo, else they would have drawn more comparisons. Get a life.
Nobody ought to buy the ammo anyway, the cost/benefit is nonexistent. The price is double the price of high quality defense rounds. I don't care if the ammo is a gimmick or kryptonite, it's price is a bad joke and only a gullible fool buys it.
my 12 year old said that is not a good idea to eat the fruit with the bullet inside of it because of the lead.
this round is full copper.
Copper has a lot of vitamins ;)
Giovanni Castro I probably wouldn't, either, but due to some of the unburned powder and other contaminants. Still, I'd much rather EAT the fruit than BE the fruit!
