I’m in love with this channel. Why? Because it makes knowledge attractive. I always hated going to school as a child because no one ever made knowledge so attractive to want to learn. And that’s why we need more of this. Effort from animators to the voice of Xiao Chua didn’t make a single second of this video boring. It makes me proud as a Filipino, it makes me want to be a better Filipino for the world and I believe that we as Filipinos and The Philippines truly has something to offer to the world. Mabuhay tayo.

Same here. He was my professor in college at DLSU. He taught GE Rizal and made the class feel like an event you chose to attend. It did not feel like a requirement. The witty and smart professor makes the class feel like a talk show. Being part of his class was one of my core memories in college. This is one of the peaks of education. He makes learning fun and enlightening. This man will certainly bring back awareness to Filipino history.

@838WE7O6A we kicked out the Japanese in the country how is that not enough? That's already a defeat on their part, something they don'ttake lightly. And it wasn't like they could colonize us fully. They got a strong hold of major cities, the surrounding area of the capital, and other places in the country, but the provinces were filled with guerrilla groups. Like when the British tried taking over, they only took Manila and Cebu, but they claimed they took over the entire colony 😒

Holliwood movies, imported brands, pop cultures like kpop.) Integrating those in our own culture aswell.

It took so long before filipinos had the chance to see how others outside the Philippines lived or even read about it. Filipino is not about blood. It’s about a community of people in the Philippines with shared culture and identity. So if you’re from the diaspora, having “Filipino blood” is not enough. You have to exert effort and enthuasism to learn what it is to be “Filipino” the way it is in the Philippines. You can’t be Filipino if you live, breathe, and sleep American (or any other outside nation youre from). It’s time to stop relying on stereotypes perpetuated within the overseas diaspora esp, Fil-Am community. Speak our language, learn our nuances, live our culture, experience our struggles and successes just like how we do it in the Philippines. That’s how you can have fulfillment what it is to be “Filipino”.

Personally, as a former OFW, what I realized is having a different perspective in life(for example: being OFW or trading with foreigners) really broadens your point of view on your nationalism.

    A few takes.
I would agree that Filipinos gravitate towards a person to push on an ideology. Jose Rizal and Ninoy Aquino were the faces of the revolutions that they kick-started. Many of the ideas that Duterte embodies gain momentum only when people have someone whom they can look on as the face of such ideas.
However, the question on why Filipinos go abroad to have work is rather an economic situation rather than a cultural one. People are attracted to places that will grant them higher purchasing power. Some countries could have higher wages but higher prices of commodities. So a blue collar worker from a first world country might refrain from doing the same work in a third world country because the dividends are not beneficial for himself or his family.
Thanks for the video and mabuhay.

Very insightful, and appropriate presentation of the filipinos. Thank you for making this video at mabuhay!

Sa Filipino, pwede mong i-"Filipinized" yung mga salita wherein Tagalog would find a counter-part for that. That makes Filipino easier to use than Tagalog itself.

For the 1st question, pang Historian yung sagot ni Xiao syempre.
The simple answer is because of the 60/40 Economic Provision sa 1987 Constitution.

The 60/40 could have been a great thing if kasabay ito ng development ng industries natin noon. All East Asian countries and their peripheries has undergone the same thing. Di sila nagmadali mag-democratize kasi magulo yun pag di ka pa developed. Just take a look at the pathetic failure of a country India is. Anyways, what East Asian countries did is that they opted to tolerate a dictator during their developmental stages. Benevolent or not as long as effective. Doesn't matter if the cat is white or black as long as it catches mice. Basically, nag-sakripisyo yung baby boomer generation nila. Worked their fingers to the bone with the hopes na yung magiging anak at apo nila e makakaranas ng mas magandang buhay kaysa kanila. Their cream of the crop gets sent to Harvard or Oxford not to settle down there but to bring back home the know-hows.
In the end, they've all been successful in developing their industries to the point that it can compete with foreign companies na gustong pumasok sa kanilang bansa. Unfortunately, hindi nangyari satin to. Like India, we've leapfrogged from an agricultural economy to service-based economy. We could've opted for manufacturing muna but instead we're so adamant about providing services which is will keep us poor for generations to come.

Then why other countries like Vietnam are still peogressing despite having economic restrictions?
Makakapagnegosyo pa rin naman kahit 60/40. Ang problema yong korapsyon.

9:52 We were the traders. Not the Chinese. The Chinese didn't build their own trade ships until the Song Dynasty (c. 900 AD). We were the ones who sailed ships to Guangzhou and GIao Chi and on to Champa, Siam, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Martaban, and South Asia. All the Chinese goods we have in archaeological sites prior to the Song were carried by our (or our neighboring SE Asian culture's) ships since at least 200 BC (like in the Butuan ships). There are ZERO Chinese shipwrecks in the Maritime Silk Road prior to 900 AD.
Even after the Chinese built their own ships, most of them were near-coastal vessels only. They could only sail by hugging the coast of mainland Southeast Asia, not cross deep water (which is why the Yuan-era navies to Japan and Java both failed and sank from storms that our ships could weather easily). Chinese ships were based on flat-bottomed river ships, and thus were not suitable for deep waters with stronger waves. Even Zheng He's expeditions for example, hugged the coastlines. In contrast, Austronesian ships have always been ocean-going. Even medium-sized bangka (balangay) are capable of crossing large distances of water. It's how we settled Micronesia and Polynesia.
It was only during the Ming, when the Chinese ships started integrating Southeast Asian Austronesian designs into their ships, that they became capable of crossing deep water. It also coincided with the fall of Majapahit, the suppression of most native SE Asian Austronesian shipbuilding by Europeans, which led to the replacement of most trade in SE Asia with Chinese (Hokkien) and Malay trade.

There were so many things in our culture that was so forward and truly has heart and now I hardly experience such and I always look away from anything about filipinos being attracted to cultures besides ours because it seems as a nation we failed to teach that our culture is just as amazing and that we are more than just karaoke champions, boxing legends or a tourist trap. I should never have thought about leaving the country, this place was glorious and it still can be if we just work to make it so if only there where more people who share the same sentiment.
