    Lifelong Celtics fan and long time season ticket holder here. I grew up going to the old Boston Garden and went to the first game at the Fleetcenter (now TD Garden).
    You are right and wrong about this news. The Garden (in all its iterations) have always been owned by the Bruins. The Celtics have always used the building rent free, but the arena employees, food service, pro shop, etc are run by (and collect the profits) by Delaware North, which is the Bruins ownership corp. This is why there are no Celtics statues around the building (they are around the city) and up until recently the seats were always black and gold (for the Bruins colors). The Celtics dont even have their own pro shop, just the bruins pro shop that sells Celtics merch. The current Celtics ownership, led by Wyc Grousbeck, bought the team in the 00's and originally wanted to build a separate building for the team. He's said so in interviews before, but it didnt work out. Most recently he mentioned wanting to bring a WNBA team to boston, but could not since they do not own the building. With how much the team is worth compared to when he bought it, add on the recent success, and the WNBA hopes.. I bet the Celtics leave the TD Garden for thier own building.. While the TD Garden remains for the Bruins and for concerts/events.
    So I bet the Bruins and TD Garden are going no where, but the Celtics are missing out on alot of revenue and opportunity by not having thier own building.

    @kevinkrilow2474 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I work in architecture. Unlike the arenas of yesteryear, the ones built in the mid 90's were all specifically designed so they can easily be renovated. Almost all the arenas that went up in the 60's and 70's only had a 20 year lifespan and cities who were investing in these projects did not want that to happen again.
    There is a trend emerging with super luxury arenas, but to justify the multi billion dollar price tag, you need a hefty STH base that is willing to put up 6-figures a year, which is really only economical in select cities like LA or NY

    The only reason the C's would consider moving is because the Garden is owned by Bruins ownership (despite that as others have pointed out, the C's signed a long lease extension). Otherwise I don't think they would leave Boston proper even for an inner suburb, it would just be a bad look. I don't know if anywhere in Boston proper with the amount of open real estate needed for a hotel/casino/arena complex and all the parking required. People love the location of the garden and how accessible it is by public transit. The Garden could definitely use an exterior renovation at this point but the interior is actually nice as hell by any standard. They're not going anywhere.

  • @richbastien2911
    @richbastien2911 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    DG, a casino/arena is not in any way happening with a new casino. I could see them going up to partner with Encore and Kraft’s soccer stadium, but the Massachusetts legislature would need to approve any additional casino. And the people in South Eastern Mass still have not built the one allocated to that region. Plus, Encore has exclusivity rights in Eastern Mass. They aren’t giving up that market to another casino.
    While you may have heard that “sources” from perhaps inside the Celtics WANT to build a new arena in 5 years, that’s not happening. It took 20 years of planning just to get this one built.

    • @quiddity131
      @quiddity131 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's clear the video creator knows nothing about the Boston area. It makes no financial sense to build a casino within 5 miles of the existing one even if they got around the red tape of the local government and any deal(s) Encore has. Moving to Everett where Encore is doesn't make any sense either, it's not as good a location as where the TD Garden is now.

      The homage to the old garden in the new Hub building was brilliant. I love it.

  • @andrewmaiewski4743
    @andrewmaiewski4743 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Two problems with your thought of a new Celtics arena. First. There is absolutely nowhere inside Rt. 128 ( I-95 ) to build an 20k seat arena. Unless they dig up the Public Gardens or drop it in the middle of Boston Common. Secondly Mass is only allowing the two casinos and the one slot parlor to be open. All of which have been open for years. The only exception to this is if the Wampanoag tribe gets some things done and opens a casino on their land. But their land is further away from Boston then Foxboro is, and there isn't any public transit service to the area from Boston either.

  • @quiddity131
    @quiddity131 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The creator of this video clearly knows nothing about the Boston area and if not totally making this up, did no verification from whomever his source is. There's already a casino within 5 miles of the TD Bank Garden. The TD Bank Garden sits on top of North Station, one of the two big transit stations in downtown Boston meaning its in a perfect location and they're not going to easily find a better one. There isn't clear open space in Boston to build something this significant at ay reasonable cost. It would surely cost well more than the $1.5 billion the video creator claims. It makes no financial sense for the Celtics. They didn't have to pay to build the TD Bank Garden in the first place, it belongs to the Bruins and they have a lease. Why take on that massive cost when they can just continue to go with the lease? Especially because the things underpinning the theory, that they are going to build a casino with it is never going to happen and would be insanely stupid even if the local government approved it because there's already one right there.

Bob Kraft already wants to build a 15k/20k soccer stadium across the street which is the only build-able area with the Mystic River behind the casino. Also the Bruins (Delaware North) own TD Garden and dumped a shit-ton of money into it so there's no way they're moving.

All thiese fans who have commented that the Celts don't need a new arena will be the first do complain when Derek White is allowed to walk after next season. Right on top of North Station, the second busiest train station in New England - only South Station is busier - where there is both Commuter Rail and two "T" lines, the Green and Orange. It's in the small West End neighborhood with easy walking connection to the North End and Downtown and adjacent to shopping centers, a movie theater, and restaurants. If they moved to Everett - and they won't - they would forfeit essentially all of this. Rest assured, there will be a THIRD arena built on this spot - the original "Gahden" was built literally nine INCHES away from this arena - before the Celtics (or Bruins) skip town. Let's get real here.
