Great camera Bryan, Port Ludlow always looks good from the air, I hope the problems get worked out if it hasn't been already, I see this video is 6 days old and I missed it. I wanted to give you a heads up that I mention you in my next video which goes public tomorrow morning before I go to work.
Well the update on my new EVO is not positive. The battery in the controller died again in the case waiting for the weather… still no word from Autel. Ugh! I look forward to seeing your video in the morning!
UPDATE January 20, 2023: Autel Robotics has released the firmware update and I’m thrilled (!) to report that the new EVO II Pro v3 is now working magnificently!
Great flight. Wonderful camera. So many great views of the mountains, lake and seaside village. The natural colors are amazing. Thanks for sharing with us.
Bryan, my V1 crashed during a real estate shoot. Autel CS was good, just wrecked beyond repair and out of warranty. Grabbed a V2 for $1324 so now have 5 batteries. Anyway...your SOOC video on your V3 is absolutely gorgeous! I've been shooting in Log and doing a lot of color grading in post. Did you adjust any if your V3 advanced camera settings to get such nice color pop? Definitely like the contrast too. Not overly contrasty like DJI's defaults. Thx!
On video I rarely change the camera settings from the default. Exceptions are in low light or bright sunlight… even then I just adjust the f-stop a few clicks one way or the other. The color palette is magnificent in auto. I also take most of my stills while running the video and I pull stills from the video afterwards as well. I do process my stills in LR but it usually doesn’t need much correction or enhancement. My DJI mini and AVADA definitely need color correction most every flight.
Hello and thank you for sharing your video! I’m thinking to buy the Evo 2 Pro v3 bundle but before buying it, I would like to ask you some questions if you are able to answer I will appreciate it. Are you still using your Evo2 v3 if so, how is the SC, is it still having problems with the battery ? How about the flight modes, are there all the flight modes like the v1 and v2 Evo 2? I used to have the Evo 2 v1 and The enterprise v2 with the larger SC and also had several connections and transmission issues in less than 600ft away, and SC frozen all the time. Anyway, I like the Evo2s versions but I’m kind worry about firmware issues. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Great questions! Honestly, despite the bugs, gremlins and overall poor customer service… I love this bird. So yes, I’m still flying her. There are some missing automatic flight modes but I don’t rely on those much anyway so except for rare instances I do not miss them. Transmission between the camera and the controller is great as far as the eye can see and likely beyond (but how could I know.) I still have occasional battery problems but I bought an extra battery for the controller and 4 for the bird so when the gremlins are at play I have redundancy and the gremlins have not caused me to miss any opportunities. The footage I produce with my EVO 2 Pro V3 is simply amazing right out of the camera so it saves me so much time in editing. Although frustrating at times I believe you’ll be happy to have this drone.
It's been working for me and there have been some four day runs of bad weather... Let me know if you find better answers but at least it looks as if this will allow me to fly on a regular basis once the weather is better.
Wow beautiful place man. Looks like you live in a piece of Heaven. Any other features you could shat that would make someone go from the V1 or V2? Currently have the V2. I wish they would have just made the 4t Max the EVO 3. That thing is a beast. It has new autonomous features and the obstacle avoidance works at night and low light.
I actually do live in a place that is pretty close to any definition of heaven… As for the V3, I like the flexibility of manual camera settings and I feel like the V3 is more responsive to camera adjustments. (The camera on the V1 is amazing too though.) The zoom wheel and much improved digital zoom itself are enough that I think jumping from V1 to V3 is justifiable. I’m still not happy with Autel’s customer support and the fact that I always have to remove the battery from the controller between uses. I do get epic footage with this beautiful machine so despite the early trauma I am happy to have it.
how do you compare the V1 with this V3 ,if you own a V1 thats in great shape with a 7.9 inch smart controller also almost new , do you think it's worth upgrading ??
Thanks for the response appreciated ! if you get a minute I'd like to hear why , I know you had and they had issues with the battery and there is less automated flight choices.
Hi Bryan, thanks for this video. I have been flying the Evo 2 pro, version 1 since August 2021, before that only Dji drones. Now I fly the Evo 2, version 3, and it's a pain in the.... , the sticks are hard to regulate, the intelligent flight modes almost eliminated them completely, and the ones that are left work poorly, the white balance setting is difficult to achieve. On top of that, the smart controller's battery life is very short, and there are no extra batteries to buy. I think that Autel is doing the same as Dji, they launch the product to compete with other companies, and then, along the way, I make patches to improve each drone. I am not happy with the customer service. I don't want to mean this drone is a piece of trashk, no, it flly very well, camera is excelent, but when you want to tune yours pics o manner to fly, you don't get the answer you got with version 1. Grettins
Well I do have a little good news… Blue Skies Drone Rental company has spare SE Controller batteries in stock for $65. Mine comes today! I’ll finally feel comfortable flying larger missions again and not have to rely on my Phantom 4 anymore. Yay! Good luck to you, thank you for sharing your experiences and I hope we’ll talk again.
So after my last post (rant) I kept the controller on the charger and at 48 hours the first battery became fully charged (?) and another 24 hours later I had both batteries fully charged. I flew Friday evening and Saturday and the charging system functioned properly. This has been an ongoing battle with what we used to call “gremlins” and it is so frustrating. I’m not doing anything different now than any time in the past 3 months. I had been trying to flip the cords, plug the charger into different outlets and even a power station in my RV but it remains random and un dependable.
It’s hard to say, I think they’d still cast a reflection. I’m sure that a good engineer somewhere could solve the problem but until then we just have to be mindful of our camera angles.
@@captnbry another possibility is put a little visor on top of the gimbal. It's definitely a major problem when you fly late it the day, because I consider any video with the propeller reflections pretty worthless.
I agree. What my solution has been is to alter the angle of the shot or lower the gimbal angle. I’ve had other drones that were worse for prop reflection and even the props themselves getting in the field of vision.
The drone itself is amazing. Great flight characteristics in every aspect. It does not have as robust a selection of automated flight choices but I rarely use those anyway. Color palette, sharp focus, fully adjustable camera settings… and it comes back right to the spot it took off. My only beef is that I cannot rely on the controller and the customer service is simply nonexistent.
I have not experienced problems with the Return to Home button. Now that I’m used to removing the battery every time I put it in the box I am trouble-free… now if it would just quit raining!
Wonderful colors and great views of Mt. Baker and the Olympics. Since you did no color correction, I assume you were using Auto Exposure and not LOG. HDR? Are you using the new Smart Controller SE? Did you get the charging issues solved? I've been flying the E2Pv1 and original large smart controller for several years now. No issues at all. Thanks for posting your video and experiences with the new hardware.
Thank you for asking great questions! The video was shot in full auto. Since I began video recording with my V1 two years ago I’ve come to the conclusion that my control of individual settings for video is unnecessary and time-consuming in most instances. I will adjust my settings for low-light or put a filter on for high-noon in the summer. I do make many manual adjustments for still photos and I run those through Lightroom if needed. In most cases the video comes out beautifully without messing around…this allows me to concentrate on flight characteristics. I am using the SE Controller with my V3. The firmware update did allow the battery to charge fully in an hour and a half as promised. However, if the battery remains in the controller for 3 days it will have lost all of the charge without being turned on at all. This problem has been resolved by removing the battery after charging and storing it separately. There are not enough improvements on the V3 over an operating V1 to justify an upgrade. If I had not crashed my V1 I’d still be flying it happily. I hope this helps. Thank you again!
I guess it would depend on the definition of "hobbyist." They're not inexpensive and the service after the sale is non-existent... When the EVO ll V3 is working correctly it's a beast with an amazing camera, but when it's not... Unfortunately the choices are limited (mostly due to politics) so the consumer is relegated to dealing with the problems and solving them themself. You can call support but they do not answer and when you email or leave voicemail you will likely get the answer to an unrelated question.
I agree. The footage is excellent right out of the camera... but when you're spending $2,500 you'd like to have some assurance that it will fly as scheduled. On several occasions I've been forced to use alternative drones (and my alternatives are DJI so geofencing is often an issue.)
Dam I read your description sounds like a horror story. I too have had software problems with autel on the Evo lite plus and then on the max. But it would only be fair to add also on several DJI. I really like autel more than I like the dji and since there are no better alternatives that I know of I expect I'll keep buying them. My biggest problem with autel is now they are starting to follow the lead of DJI with the no fly zones and automatic remote id activation on firmware updates. These things ought to be up to the user to toggle on or off in the settings. Just like anything else in life if I break the law and get caught there are consequences. That's like if I buy a sports car that has 500 horsepower and I choose to go 150 mph in a 25 mph zone and I get caught there are consequences.... So should we speed limit all cars to 25 mph? If we allow And comply with remote id and other stupid laws that we disagree with then your just rolling over and giving up your rights there's already to much of that going on! If it's mine and I paid for it and I use it on my property it's nobodys dam business what I do with it or how I fly it! I will not comply! ✌️😎✌️
It seems as if the little guy is slowly being squeezed out of the skies. Overregulation with no documented evidence of threat to human life or property.

Wonderful drone flight. The landscapes are amazing👍👌
