    I was about to buy the new KRK's, but did a quick final comparison in the store. Just to be sure that I was doing the right thing here. The guy in the store let me listen to other 7" (6,5") monitor speakers like Genelecs, Yamaha en these Adam Audio speakers (which I hadn't heard of) and it was immediately clear that Adam won the test for me. There's much more definition in the low (bass) with the Adam Audio. KRK are pretty good, but if you want to master your techno, tech house etc tracks, you want to have the Adam's. If you want good sound to listen to tracks (not mastering) or for DJ'ing, then go for the KRK's. And yes, I was about to buy the KRK Rokit 7 G4. I was already in love with these yellow cones, but the difference was so evident. And I'm not a professional, so even my (sort of) untrained ears could hear a big difference. The difference in this video is less big than in the audio room. So my advice, go to your local store and put up some of your favourite music, the kind of music you produce and just listen. You'll notice the difference. Btw, If you are mastering rock music, go for the Yamaha's. They are an absolute winner for that genre.

      1087films KRK 7 or TV7 for mixing(I’m techhouse, minimal also)

    • @1087films
      @1087films 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harveyjh You mean mixing records or mixing and mastering tracks? If you're dj'ing then go for the KRK's. They make the sound a bit fatter, given you a bit more that club feel. If you're about to produce tracks yourself and want to mix and master your tracks, then go for the Adam's. Anyway, this is my advice. Both brands produce awesome monitor speakers, so if you upgrade from a standard stereo set or (in my case) headphones, it will be a massive upgrade either way. Have fun and keep rocking!

      @@1087films The old generation krk rokits have way more bass and was muddy in the lows and it was one of the industry standard monitors for mixing; there's a popular engineer that said he only mixes and masters on the krk g3s and has been mixing on the krks for 30 years; the new g4s sound more true and flatter than the previous ones (plus you have an entire EQ built on the back of it that you can customise so it fits your room or your needs); so it depends what sound you want. The point isn't to get the best sounding monitor but the most true one. The yamaha hs gives the most true sound, if you make it sound good then generally it will sound good elsewhere. You shouldn't be using monitors to hear exactly how your low end sounds anyway because most cut off at around 40 Hz anyway, you should use a subwoofer for that. Yamaha hs5s + the hs8s subwoofer would be the best combination for very clear highs and mids and a detailed and deep low that goes down to like 5-15hz (don't remeber exactly)

    • @Mateusz7821
      @Mateusz7821 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@1087films Billie Eilish is a good recent example. She recorded all her vocals in her small room with no acoustic treatment at all, And her brother Finneas produced all her songs just using the yamaha Hs5s (which barely have any bass) And the subwoofers HS8S. The good thing about subwoofers is that they are way more detailed than monitors, as the response is much lower and they are designed specifically for producing bass, And you can turn them on/off so you can hear your mix with the bass and with reduced bass. If it sounds good on monitors with low bass when the subwoofer is off AND when it is on, then that's the firdt sign that the mix probably went well

    The top end of the Adam speakers seemed to have a lot more clarity. I noticed the subtlety of the brushes on "Long Drive" more on The Adams. Also, the hi-hats on "Deep" were more defined. Same for "Man On Fire. Having said that, the KRKs do have a very appealing mid-boost.
    I'm using old Rockit 5s and I do really like them. I am tempted to get some T7Vs though.

    KRK matches the source better....Meaning it's more accurate to what you're mixing.
    The commanded lows were expressed too soft on the Adam's. The Adam's are also too colorful/bright in the highs which also does not match the source.....the point of monitors is express the source as accurately and flat as possible and just sounds like the Adam's are to quick in transient response and the KRKs are almost too slow causing muddy/muffle.
    Honestly, if these two speakers had a child - I'd probably consider it

    Adam has clearly more definition and sparkle on the high end. The bass frequencies seem to be more enhanced with the Rokit but it could be that the open port at the front is helping with the projection towards the mic. I think you can only judge if you are in the room..

    I don't know much about anything but if I had the money I'd have both sets of monitors in my studio because its bass frequencies I have the most trouble with. I want them not too loud, not too quiet and with just the amount of clarity so they cut through - I reckon hooking both sets of monitors to something like a Mackie Big Knob would help my amateur bedroom mixing! 😃

    Love the it at the end of the video (09:49) where the Frequency Responses for the two speakers are shown on the same graph. They follow each other so closely up to about 3K where they start to differ. My guess would be that it is the response of the room causing all those little peaks and troughs in the responses up to 3K. Was there any attempt to use the EQ controls on the speakers to tune them to the room?

    The Adams sound really spacious, a tad empty aswell. But i would bet that you can point out the placing of the instruments in a track easily with the adams. However, the Krk's sound like a Hug. They are so intimate. Krks have won me over. Heart over Analysis in this case. Hope my future mixes agree with me on this choice. Thanks for the vid. Love it

      Hahahaha yeah I know what you mean. I bought the presonus sceptre s8's that are bad ass and the stereo imaging is amazing. Everything I mix and do now translates very well to buds, headphones, car stereos, bluetooth speakers, and phones. No more bouncing back n forth to other sources checking. I had the Adam A7x and to me the highs were a little too piercing somewhat harsh, and the lows to mids to me just didn't have the feel or balls. I came from some JBL LRS 305's...so was a huge step I feel on volume and some low end. I still like my lil 305s, best speakers ever for beginners and for bang for buck you can't beat that price range. the trick to mixing and why speakers are important is the frequency response. If you can hear everything, you can fix it. The more you hear, the better your translations will be across the board to multiple sources. Hope this helps confuse you more for speakers hehe. Oh I'm looking at Focal Shapes 65 as well. :)

      But they lacks of mids. You can boost low and high frequencies, but in most cases you can't do it with mids. That's why you need good mids from start like in KRK's. But only in 7, KRK 5 G4 lacks mids either.

  • @oldschoolwaverider
    @oldschoolwaverider 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The mids seem scooped out@ 5:27, but not @5:44?? Are they set differently each time within the same song? If so, they sound like very flexible speakers. At least to my somewhat untrained ears.

    DS.r, i much appreciate your idea to compare the loudspeakers and all the hard work behind it!! Of course there are some specifics about the methodology here and there, but the basic "point" remains untouched and its up to the listener to interpret your results correctly. It is amazing, how it differs, what the people look for or how they analyze, what they hear.. In my case its balance, that matters, the glue.. To describe this particular comparison, KRK writes a sentence with words made up of letters of approximately similar size. In T7V these are of different sizes, which to my ears is quite distracting. Of course there are other acoustic parameters besides frequency response.
    To give a couple of examples, I obviously fall into the category of people who think highly of Andrew Jones' last two releases for Elac.. and from actives it would be KRKs G4 5&7. I respect all opinions and thank you for them. Everyone can find something essential for her/himselves in these.
    The most important thing at the end is the satisfaction with our own choice, as personal listening experience can't be substituted. And if i may add my own request for the future, it would be a comparison of Elac DBR vs Elac Uni-Fi Reference.. sorry, these are passives and as such, it doesn't belong to this "thread" that much.. Thanks again, wish all of you much fun during the listening.

    Adams, excellent definition, almost dry, clinical. Rockets, i hear that hump in mids to get that detail,, lacking Adams definition.
    Adams remind me ofJBL 305 SOUND, (which are excellent btw), rockets remind me of party speakers with really good separation but a little less refined than Adams.
    These 7" Adams are too clinical for me. The Rockets sound fun but humped in mids, while Adams sounded scooped to me just a little but way better definition.
    I would get the Adams adding warmth and more spatial information, probably would help. Rockets are fine, just not quite able to keep up with that Adam tweeter.
    Must remove the environment Tho from affecting end users experience, because sparkly and clinical isn't enough.

      @mcnoided 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've compared the t7v and the rokit at my local music store and the adams blew the krks out of the water by a long shot. The treble on the rokits was really harsh and I wanted to go back to the adams as soon as I switched, bass was louder on the krks but not as punchy and clear. The rokits were also fairly muddy but the high mids were similar.
      I've heard people call the krk monitors suitable for hip hop, trap and vice versa having to do with low bass. Thing is that you want lower bass, not louder bass. The krks don't have lower bass but just louder bass, which may sound appealing at first listen but it's not what you want for monitoring your mixes. Louder low end will pretty much result in the complete opposite result to what you may be looking for, you're gonna undercompensate the low end because of the boost in the monitors.
      Trust me when I say that you have to listen to them with your own ears, a video like this does not explain how they actually sound.

Anyway, If you have less mids you put them too high and you have chorus. But have you ever thought that krk have too much mids? I have t7v at home... I tried krk 8 but t7v are better... They are really balanced, more than you think... Krk have too much bass frequencies so in the mix you put them too low just because "on the krk sound fine" and... Let me just say it... The tweeters in the t7v are so much better than the krk... Krk's high frequencies, as most of the speaker, are just... Saturated... And not detailed than the t7v ones... Not sure if it's my headphones or the recording or but both speakers sound like they have shitty boomy bass with very slow transients and I know the Adam T7V doesn't have this in real life (not sure about the KRK G4 7s). These videos showcase nothing about a speaker. They're no better than looking at a frequency graph. You can't tell how a speaker performs when it comes to attack, decay, transient responses, soundstage, width, depth, "airiness", "sparkleness", etc. etc. Anyone who's even fairly competent about sound knows that these comparisons are highly inaccurate and relay no useful or beneficial information about the sonic qualities of speakers.

      Had them both. If you want to mix low end, you go for a subwoofer. For highs the ribbon tweeter IS nice -- but maybe you care more about the range where actually 90% of the music happens. KRK is better overall, especially after room correction or configuring it with a reference mike. No need to call other people deaf if you have zero investment and information to properly test them.

    • @sergeysmelnik

      Auditioned both g4s and tv adams and unless you want overly bright amt sound the g4s are much better. The transition from tweeter to woofer is so much better than the adams which always sound like two different speakers are playing at the same time. The krks are warmer in general and their tweeter wont give you a headache after long listening sessions.

      I listened to the krk g4s and adam t5v, t7v and a7x. The krks destroyed the adams, it wasnt even close. The krks are trully flat with a slight 8khz boost and rolled off top end. The adams extend the top end but it gets annoying real quick and there is no sense of cohesion between the tweeter and mid. The krks use kevlar on both drivers and it doesnt sound like the tweeter is playing separate from the woofer like the adams.
