Thanks Doug for hitting that wonderful piece of wood to Rod. It's is striking the flashes are beautiful.🙏🙏😘😘 Rod beautifully turned so elegant. Love to you and Susan 💖💖
I am so glad you liked turning Myrtlewood. I first turned this when I was in shop in school and have always loved turning it. It I am not mistaken it grows on the Sothern Oregon and Northern California coast and Palestine. I love the fact you kept it simple. let the wood speak for itself. It reminds me that our Creator knows what He is doing and make some beautiful wood. This is absolutely stunning.
Doug, Thank you so much! What an amazing gift, I appreciate your thoughts and generosity. He truly does and is the Artist above all artists. Thanks again! -Rod
1 Timothy 1:8-10 is a good passage indeed! How wonderful it is to hear God’s word and to see beautiful work done as a testament to His giving you such capable hands!!!
As a child living on the Oregon coast (by the way, that's ORY-gun, Rod, not ORA-gone) a neighbor made his living turning myrtlewood. Every piece was stunningly beautiful and unique in figure from every other piece. As you've revealed to yourself myrtlewood is a woodturner's dream come true.
Good morning, Marine. Nothing to be ashamed of here. Beautiful wood, great shape and finish and bold testimony. All the good stuff for a Friday morning. "Wow" Works for me. Simple pleasures brings much joy. All the best to you, my friend. Semper Fidelis
I watch lots of woodturners for entertainment, and you are the only one who comments about the beauty of the shaving curls that come off the pieces of wood. The myrtlewood bowl has exquisite texture and coloration. Thanks for the scriptures also.
WOW! WOW! WOW! that is right Rod, what a lovely piece. That has to be one of the prettiest pieces you have turned yet. All of your pieces are beautiful, but man that's just gorgeous.
We love Myrtlewood! We have a few pieces picked up at local Goodwill stores here in Oregon. AMEN to your Food For Thought! Thank you for sharing this turning with us! God bless and Semper Fi!
This is beautiful. Easily the best piece of wood I have seen turned. It has no scars, and it has exceptional characteristics! Good job bringing them out!
So beautiful! I've learned so much about wood from you and your fellow woodturners, the last few years. Who knew that such beauty was hidden behind all that craggy old bark? Thank-you for sharing your knowledge and your gift - it's been quite an education!
Rod, that is one pretty piece of wood. Did I see a tiny bit of burl embedded in it too?! I’ll bet it even shines in the darkness. I love the design! 1Timothy, reminds us that we are all lawless, but have been given One saving Grace. He that rose on the third day. Amen! Be blessed throughout your day, Sir. Big hugs to our Susan! 2 Chronicles 7:14
Love me some myrtlewood Rod. Being up here in the PNW, I have decent access to it and usually have some laying around. Very nice bowl. It was interesting to see how you approach it to keep as much figure as you can. I still struggle with "seeing" how to go about that.
I've never looked at a piece of wood like that before (non-turner here), but it makes perfect sense! "Follow the sap/heartwood to what you want to see in the end". Beautiful job!
Rod, that is one big beautiful bowl. Like rippled silk of many colours. And probably the most stunning piece of wood for figuring and chatoyance that I've ever watched you turn.
My goodness that wood has such a beautiful configuration. It never ceases to amaze me how interesting the grain patterns can be. It's a very lovely piece. Take care.
Lovely finished piece. You definitely took advantage of the figure! Myrtlewood ages beautifully, and this one will be an exceptional piece. I have pieces that have been in my family for over half a century and only get more beautiful with age.
That is an eye-full of beauty, Rod. Well done! Thank you for the explanation while assessing the wood to see what lies within. Also, I really enjoyed your editing. Just the right amount of captivating real time and the right places to speed it up.
Wow Rod that’s absolutely gorgeous. I really appreciate the relatively simple shape such that it really showed all of the beauty in the wood also finish turned out great, a nice shine to it but not so glossy that its hard to see the wood. Outstanding job on that. I always enjoy watching you work your magic on wood like that.
I was so happy to hear you say that this was the most beautiful and nice wood to work with because I was thinking from the moment you unboxed the chunk of wood that I have never seen anything that nice before. It is amazing. You sure did it justice with your turning also. What a beautiful bowl. Great video, inspirational and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it’s extremely beautiful. So wise to make a rather clean design and let the wood speak for itself. ❤
hi l total agree with you bud let the wood tell its own story
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Sure is a purdy piece of wood ! great finish as well, thumbs up as always Rod !
