Great tones/playing! Funny, I have both of the Jan Ray and the Browne Carbon, and I switch between them for my base low gain OD tone. Depending on what guitar I’m using and if I want the warm thick “chewy” tone of the JR or a brighter open jangly tone of the Carbon. I keep thinking I should sell one of them as they are pricey to keep around, but they both do have something special to them. Having bought and sold dozens of ODs, some of the hyped ones do have something different about them that just make your tone pop and make playing more inspiring and fun. But with that said, I also have a $30 Chinese Klon clone that I just love (and I think sounds better than most boutique Klon pedals I’ve compared it to) and I also have some EQD pedals that are under $100 that are killer as well. So my experience is it doesn’t need to be super expensive to be a fantastic pedal, but sometimes the best ones also happen to be the expensive ones. No shame in enjoying those 🤘 And I do agree, typically you get the most dynamic range with the higher end pedals. I love playing with my volume knob and it makes a big difference when a pedal sounds good at every volume.
Man, that intro jam was so, so nice. Guys like you and Joshua De La Victoria have this really particular vibe and phrasing that I super-dig. Do you have any instrumental music posted anywhere? If not, please release some stuff sometime! I'd buy it for sure. :)
Would you speak about how do you use your Keeley Halo? How do you use it live, and what are the settings you use the most. You sound amazing, you play amazing! This channel will grow fast! Thank you!
At this point, I only use boutique overdrives. My Vemuram TSV808 (bought shortly after they came out #924) is my go to. To me, it’s the best transparent overdrive. I also use KingTone pedals by Jesse Davey. I have several of his pedals but the Blues Power pedal sits right alongside the TSV808. I’m running them through my 100w Amplified Nation Steel String Sultan and my 50w Carl’s Custom 50. And I’m a Strat Cat. Boutique pedals and amps are in the upper echelon of quality, but if you can afford them you’ll be able to hear and feel the difference when you’re in the room. Took me many many years to be in a position where I can finally afford dream gear. But I still have the pedals from my first rig from the 90’s. TS9’s, Danelectro pedals, bad horsie wah. Anyway, great vid Bro. 🤘🏼
thanks for the video~ Subbed! For me the dirt pedals I can't live without are the: Kingsley Page KoT JRockett Blue Note Strymon Deco I do have the Janray but haven't decided yet if I it's going to be one of my desert island pedals. haha
Bro you are legit one of my favorite guitarists on TH-cam! Your tone is sick! I’m looking at getting an h90, would you recommend? I currently have a bigsky/timeline setup so it would primarily be for modulation. Thanks brother🤠🔥
Thanks so much man, I'm truly honored. I'd definitely recommend the h90. Even if you just use it for modulation, it is total worth it. I'm going to make a video soon on the h90 to explain how I use it and how to get past its complicated user interface.
@@Carlos_AyalaJr That would be sick! I’ve been looking on TH-cam that kinda goes in depth into editing effects and also some chorus sounds so that would fs be cool!
The Jan Ray Vemuram is a part for part a Timmy clone (google the schematics, they’re identical) and Jan Ray got dragged for it years ago because they claimed it was an original circuit. Electronically there is no difference between it and the official MXR reissue (licensed from Paul Cochrane) you can find for like $100. Jan Ray stole from you and a lot of other folks claiming it had some mystical mojo behind it.
The thing is there is nothing unique to boutique pedals that make them particularly special IMO. The irony is they are usually copying a famous pedal and just putting their spin on it. The reason to buy a boutique pedal ***usually*** is just because you like the brand...and because they take away or add something that the off the shelf pedal doesn't do. Tubescreamer having more tailored EQ controls is probably the most famous one. Of course they tend to be more expensive because of the hopefully smaller operation. I wouldn't get hung up on boutique being the key thing.
Nah, you're sorta full of it on this one. We're all spoiled by an absurd degree of choices, so we justify them. The vast majority of the "big classic" songs that most people know were done without any overdrive whatsoever, let alone any "boutique" nonsense. The purpose of an OD pedal is to make the amp _SOUND LIKE it's working harder than it actually is._ The rest is woo-woo and individual UI/aesthetic preference, little objective specs make much difference besides signal-to-noise and noise floor. (and vintage pedals are noisier than new pedals.... yet you will find people insisting that "vintage is better") Bottom line: nobody really cares about your gear but you. They care about the songs.
I can see your point but using amps nowadays is becoming more of a luxury. Which is what makes boutique pedals more attractive to us amp sim users. They give us the amp like characteristics without the amp. I wish you were right about people caring more about music than gear but I find the quite opposite nowadays.
Spotted “the lick” at 0:43😊
Really nice. You get to prefer what you prefer. There’s no absolutes here. Beautiful playing, I think. Tx for doing this comparison!
Glad you enjoyed this, blessings 🙌

Thanks man 🙏🏻, yeah Josh is a beast 🔥. Right now i don't have any music but do plan on making some stuff in the future 👀
Great tones man🎉
I own Vemuram Jan Ray...I havent found better overdrive even after A/B comparing to other drives..this pedal is very very good.
Totally agree man!

I like to use my halo 2 ways. I like the eighth dotted delay and halo setting. Halo setting is great for worship. I can probably make a video on it
@@Carlos_AyalaJr it would be great if you make a video about the use of delay in a live situation. Thank you!

Nice playing and tones!
Thanks man!
playing E2 for clean tone is flexing of the highest order 🤣🤣🤣 solid solid playing bruh!
Hi sir! What are your thoughts about "Lightspeed"?
Honestly, I haven't tried it myself however I see it's quite popular and everybody loves it. Give it a try!
Yes, support my decisions to buy fancy pedals
Hi brother, can you please help me. I want to know how and where are you getting the backing drums from please.
I midi program them myself using Ableton. It is a little time-consuming but I don't have the means to record a whole kit.
Hey man! Do you use a compressor pedal? I’m still learning in building my tone and pedalboard, and I just wonder how using compressor alters your tone
Sorry for the late reply bro. I don't use a compressor however I'd recommend you try one to see for yourself. They are the overdrives of clean tones
thanks for the video~ Subbed!

Strymon Deco
I do have the Janray but haven't decided yet if I it's going to be one of my desert island pedals. haha
Thanks for the support 🙏🏻. I've been wanting to try the Kingsley page for quite awhile. Hopefully I can try it soon. Total agree with that list 👌

You’re an impressive player, man.
All glory to God 🙏🏻
Do you tweak tone with iems, studio monitor, or amps? Love your tone btw sounds smooth 🔥
I like tweaking my tone when I'm at home with my iems. I don't know if it's the best way but it works for me. Thanks bro, all glory to God!

WOW! Crazy if your right. I want to compare them side by side now.
What amp are you using here? Sounds great..
Thanks! I'm using the Black twin Reverb Reissue captured by Joshdela. It's on the neural cloud so you can download it for free.

Great point man! So many great guitar players that use standard blues breakers and tube screamers sound absolutely killer 👌

These tones made my toes curl lol
That's the best compliment I've ever gotten 🤣

You just shook the entire universe bro
@@Carlos_AyalaJr nice video bro. keep up the good work! When the online lessons coming out?
