Full Instrumental piece from the group Lorem Ipsum. Familiar to "The Wire" fans as the background music playing in Season 1 when Avon Barksdale visits the Pit to see his nephew D'Angelo.
It'll never happen but I always wanted a HBO prequel revolving around the rise of the Barksdale Organization. A young Avon and Stringer taking corners, taking on rival gangs and making a foundation for their deadly reputation. This could easily be the theme song.
Yes! They could easily do a season on that, and, since every season of the Wire focused on a greater sociological concern, they could make the focus on public housing. Remember that the towers that the Barksdales took from those two brothers were their centers of powers at one time.
Well, just a few days ago, Dominic West said something about a possible Wire movie... David Simon said it too... It'd be a prequel... So there is hope! :D
MrKajithecat I don't think you could do it now, not with Robert F. Chew(Prop. Joe) passing in 2013. I mean he was a big rival of Avon during The Wire, so you know for a fact that there is going to be some previous encounters, ones that are critical to the story of Avon Barksdale. I don't think they would be able to recast him as anyone else either, Robert had him nailed down and made him believable, someone new coming in would ruin that, unless we're talking about a whole new cast setting it around the time they were 13-17 years of age.
For anyone who wants info on the project Lorem Ipsum- they are a collection of artists from the Baltimore-based experimental electronic Cytoplastik label. The artists that contributed to this track are still based in Baltimore and playing shows together.
I always liked this song when I first heard it on "The Wire". I never even knew the name of the song or who did it until somebody mentioned it in the comments for one of the "Avon visits the Pit" TH-cam vids. After that, I just searched around on the internet until I found it. If you want it, I can send you a download link. Just PM me.
Heading out to my front yard in slow motion while playing this from my jbl charge 3 loud as fuck 9:30 AM (Pacific standard time) with a joint hanging from my lip. Now my neighbors know who the king is.
Lorem Ipsum was just the band he was in at the time; he's still making music, but the label's website is down, and he doesn't have anything else available online right now...
The only scene (which isn't an end of season sequence) with music playing without context too, i.e. radio, club, car stereo. I agree though, The King graces the Low-rises with his presence.
No song finder could match this song somehow, but I goggled it and of course there's a Reddit thread front and center that links here. Rewatching after watching it 11 years ago. Just as amazing as I remember, thanks for uploading the song m8
well, not necessarily together as much these days, but we're still around, and still making music, sometimes in public...) we throw a BIG party every year around New Years at least...
I would of bet money on a Wire revival before Deadwood but I’m happy about Deadwood movie soon. Have you guys watched The Deuce yet? Almost as great as the wire in a funky 70s gangster kind of way I expect everyone to respond on this over-4-Years ago-post haha
Thanks a lot.. i was so desperate that i even cut the part of that episode of the wire and posted it here on youtube so that someone would answer it.. ( add this after youtube.com watch?v=qApOvDEZ2CA) Finally someone answered and here i am :)
the greatest television show ever produced. nothing short of genius. 5 years of character development, completely unforgettable.
Yessir, The Wire, Breaking Bad, and Sapranos
The trinity@@travisamazingable
You guys should add Mr. Robot to that list. It surpassed BB and BCS for me.

"Take it light, but take it"
-Avon Barksdale
Excellent track for such a badass entrance scene
emma lynch when I walk the room this song naturally plays😂
That moment when Avon visits the pit, DAMN i get the chills everytime. The Wire easily the best tv-series ever without doubt!
This track is unbelievably bad-ass. And the scene accompanying it... ungh!! Brilliant union of audio and visual.
This music is magical. Thanks for finding it.
Makes you just want to lie back on an open air couch, and fall asleep to the sounds of the city in the distance
Almost doesn't sound right without the dog barking and chopper sounds.
TRUTH
+Liam J needs a faint "WMD, got that WMD" in the distance too. Gotta add that flava.
It will mass destruct yo ass!
@@HighLordBlazeReborn they are selling "killah bees" in that scene. Check it out.
Stringer and Avon walking through the pit
In slow motion
And stinkun
we doin good, if you say we doin good
This is what it sounded like when I walked in fresh on a first day of school 😂 many years ago
Just a gangsta, I suppose. And I want my corners.
This song is perfect to the scene wich its been played to on the show
Incredible song for an incredible tv serie...
Well thanks to this TH-cam post and amazon primes new “in scene” feature I finally found that song lol
Shazam did nothing
"Yo I took that shit and put it on me man, 'cause he was out of pocket with that shit!"

Who would dislike this?
mtchyB Probably some Eastside bitches
Avon told me if i keep my crew humming along I’ll get points in the package soon.
This brings back so many memories. Easily the smoothest scene in the show. Cool as crap.

@@TheReservoirduck Frank sobotka death too
this is good instrumental. Entrancing like. THis was from season 1. it was a good scene too.

String! Where's Wallace! Where's Wallace, String?! Huh?!
Going to walk through my neighborhood slowly
The show just wasn't the same without them, Marlo doesn't have Avon's authority or Stringer's cunningness.
yeah avon and stringer as characters seem more cut out of life and authentic, marlo feels like a well written contrivance.
Marlo had no charisma too. Stringer and Avon were charismatic killers.@@djkramnik1
Linked it to the Soundtracksofwhatever The Wire post :)
Thanks for posting this :)
