Don't score a movie like you're one of them. You're not!... You see, their key changes, their harmonies, it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of a paycheck. They're only as good as the movie allows them to be. I'll show you. When the chips are down, these... these civilized composers, they'll eat each other. Back when I was homeless in the summer going into 9th grade with my drug addicted father going from hotel to hotel sleeping in the car this is what I listened to weirdly enough. It gave me a lot of strength in those scary times. And now listening to it I’m reminded of the loneliness and pain I felt. It’s like a bittersweet feeling
"Batman! Batman! Why is he running, Dad?" "Because we have to chase him." "He didn't do anything wrong." "Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector...." "...A Dark Knight "
best ending in the trilogy. It gives you some regretness, sadness, bitterness. The first ending in Batman Begin is find, and the third one is the worst.
@Ryan Dunham Film-makers attempting to humanize monsters end up making bad people look like heroes. But they're not fooling me. Tom Cruise asked Hollywood, "What are we doing? What are we doing" at the 2002 Oscars. Well, nearly two decades later, they're recognizing and rewarding movies that promote violence between people who disagree with each other. That's what they're doing. That's what they're doing.
Rigel Bellatrix Did you even watch the Joker? The movie shows that a poor person left by the society with no help can become a monster. This only taught me that you shouldn't leave anybody behind ,stop bullying (i'm not a bully tho) and help people with difficulties because you don't know what they're going through. It's absolutely not about riot against society and use violence more frequently. You should try to separate fiction and reality too. Children can't do that much and that's why it is said to avoid showing this film to a child but here you're completely acting like one. And didn't this trilogy do the same as Joker? Look at Harvey Dent he was a good man but becomes evil. If you are criticizing Joker then you'll have to maintain your point for the trilogy too. I always was interested by the Joker's past and how he became who he is and that's why I loved the film Joker. You may not be interested by his story, fine but don't say things like "what are we doing?" like if the film was never meant to exist, that's some childish behavior.
@@leroidespirateszoro5985 Though I appreciate your comment that seems somewhat thoughtful, I'll have to disagree with you that my quoting Tom Cruise from the 2002 Oscars is childish behavior. Perhaps I will respond to your comment in greater detail here in the near future. Until then, I commend you on your civilized response. There are plenty of folks here at TH-cam who are anything but civilized, and they go uncensored by the TH-cam administrators. Administrators who have me in their cross-hairs.
15 years later, I come back to this song time and time again. Dark, beautiful, painful, and hopeful all wrapped in 16 minutes. This is a masterpiece at its finest and has left an indelible mark in my ears.

@Ryan Dunham my favourite one, liam neeson as Ra's al Ghul is best, I also love the wohle Training aspect of the film and the little screentime We see Bruce in his Suite, it make's everything more impactful
It's odd but... Although the Joker is meant to be as a 'force for evil' in this movie, I can't help but think he, like Wayne and Dent, were victims. Wayne lost his childhood when he lost his parents, Dent was turned into a monster by grief. We don't know what made the Joker what he was. But when he said to Batman, 'I took Gotham's White Knight and brought him down to our level' all I could think was 'he knows he's a monster'. Which meant that once upon a time he was something else. If a good man like Dent could 'fall' then maybe the Joker was once a good man. And that was the real horror. At the end of this film I feltlike weeping, not just for Batman but also Dent, and whoever the Joker once was. What an amazing piece of filmmaking. And what amazing acting, from all of them. Bless you Heath.
+janesgems7 ''If I'm going to have a past, I'd prefer it to be MULTIPLE choice! Hahahhahah!'' But seriously though that comment is deep. It's rare to find something profound and clear like that in the comments of a TH-cam video. Good on you!
the archetype of the joker is of a person that never got a chance to be good, a person that has hated the world since childhold, it happens a lot to some rich kids which get everything from a material standpoint but nothing from an emotinal stanpoint (i.e. a hug from dad) that they dont enjoy the very little details of life, when a kid like this sees people in his sourrandings enjoying the little things in life that sickens him, the first thing is to reject happy moments enjoyed by others, with time such rejection is not enough and he will start to want the rest to live his own misery and then he will start enjoying when people fail on things. I am not saying that's the joker's background and the one that he was once a good man is very romantic, but i prefer that background for darth vader, i like the background of the joker being a bad person all his life better.
Just like in The Killing Joke, the point of him telling people that the scars on his face drove him insane, even though he didn't have scars in TKJ, was to tell people that "one bad day" made him who he is.
+BODDENERGON You can really see the influence of TKJ in this film - the Joker wanted to prove 'just one bad day' could turn someone's life upside down. And chillingly he was proved right: Harvey Dent.
He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight
I loved the way this triology was produced, but Bale was not may favorite Batman. I have to go with Ben Affleck, as he looks EXACTLY like Bruce Wayne from the comics (Check out the Wikipedia Batman page for a pic of Bruce), and he's the most physical Batman we've ever seen, just like in the comics.
I was a guy who was never sure of watching this trilogy ..I never understood why everyone liked it so much until i actually watched it....And it was one of the best decisions i ever made, one i will never regret...Bought tears to my eyes...Hats off to Christopher Nolan, Christan Bale and of course Heath Ledger for this amazing film and franchise!!

I saw this movie at midnight on opening day in summer 2008. I did not sleep that night. I did my morning run after the sun came up. It was a hot, beautiful summer day in the South. Still, this music kept playing in my head. It stayed with me. I thought about this movie the rest of the next day before going to see it again a few days later. It overwhelmed me so much I didn't even have an opinion on it. After seeing it a second time, I decided it was a masterpiece and that I was witnessing the greatest cinematic experience of our generation. And the music still kept playing in my head. Bravo, Hans, Chris, Christian, and Heath.
It overwhelmed me too when I first saw it, also at midnight on opening. But I knew as soon as the credits rolled I had something special. I revisited it 4 times in the theater that summer. And subsequent viewings at home, I have since determined it is my favorite movie of all-time, and my pick for the best movie of alltime when I'm asked.
@noobtommy4739 Thank you! Finally someone else is saying that The Dark Knight Trilogy isn't just your run of the mill piece of sh!t MCU, jargon. The adults go see The Dark Knight Trilogy while the kids can go watch those colorful MCU superhero bullshit excuse for a movie series! 😆😅🤣😂
This score is written in D minor, which is referred to as the saddest and dark key signature, even by man classical composers. Hans and James Newton also change the key signature from natural D minor to Harmonic D minor which makes it sound darker and scarier. This key signature is my personal favourite. It makes it sound as heroic as Batman and at the same time gives you the chills from Joker's character. Truly beautiful.
the harmonic minor isn't always used to be scarier, as most baroque and classical music in minor keys is also in the harmonic minor as it means that the V7 is not a dominant chord, and creates more pleasing sounds, at least to bach ears.
@@danettte this, like all things with art, is about perspective and emotional dialect within. D minor, d major, it makes no difference, the listener translates the tone.
while i have no education in the keys you speak of I can only presume you're correct simply because this music makes me feel the way you said it should. I humbly give you kudos. Very well said!!
I love batman because he's a human being like us ,he has no other superpower except for his will and determination and although he's rich ,he isn't arrogant of his wealth,no other superhero can come as realistic as him
Christian Bale will always be my Batman/Bruce Wayne. The Dark Knight Trilogy will always be my definitive Batman/Bruce Wayne story. I do like Ben Affleck as Batman, but nothing the DCEU will ever do will ever compare or eclipse what we saw during TDKT. Especially The Dark Knight. Nothing. This was the definitive Batman/Bruce Wayne story. No matter how many new film versions of Batman may come along, nothing will ever change that. Nothing.
Bah not my favorite version as i will take the animated series/animated films/Burton films over the Nolan films despite the first 2 Nolan films were good but the third was a disappointing film
@@MN-mn3qv You're correct, he's the best actor so far to play Batman in *any* movie. Go rewatch the series if you disagree with me. He perfectly portrays what Batman is, what Batman is supposed to be. In my eyes, he brought this character more to life than any other person ever has, or ever will.
I had the privilege of watching The Dark Knight being filmed and thought it would be an interesting and hopefully good sequel to Batman Begins. For all the DC vs Marvel thing. Marvel may have a better average of their movies. But a DC movie, when done right, will always be better, just like this movie. When done wrong, we have Green Lantern lol.
literally the dark knight series is DC's best movies lol whereas marvel are huge within the movies genre but hey looks like DC is doing well in the tv series genre with arrow and soon the flash.
Well, DC pretty much dominates every area (Games, TV, Cartoons, Comics) EXCEPT movies lol. But until they can do a Justice League movie that doesn't feel too Avengers-ish, the general audience would still go with Marvel. And the only way that I think DC can do that is make a Nolanized Justice League, and use Bat vs Supes to integrate Batman into a more fantasy-ish world. I mean, what's the f*cking point of squeezing Wonder Woman and Aquaman in when this is the prefect time to integrate Nolan's Bat in (set it between Begins and TDK), and then have a Wonder and Aqua solo film later.
I think this works better with bane instead of joker, as joker really just wanted to prove that everyone is just the same as him, he made harvey fall gotham's "white knight" into two-face Whereas bane is as he said "gotham's reckoning." Good phrase nonetheless

Yeah he doesn't have powers yet he has the balls to save everyone all the time and step up to the most powerful beings in the universe.. not a hero at all, you're 100% right.
From a purely intellectual standpoint of orchestration, Hans Zimmer is decent at it. But it's not in his orchestral complexity that I find the most enjoyment in his music. It's in the sheer, raw POWER of his compositions that gets me coming back again and again to hear his works. He may not be a John Williams, but he is, indeed, a definitive film score composer of our time. Hans Zimmer: as much a sound designer as a composer, and innovator of epic film score music as a whole. There's a reason he's one of my top influences. Just listen, and you'll hear it for yourselves.
I suppose I'm not the only person with a penchant for great music and interesting writing. You are right that Hans isn't John Williams but he is setting his own school of pulse driven percussion explosive soundtracks
Howard is also a great composer, and it also bugs me when he's not noted in the score. He contributed a lot of the more melodic thematic material for the trilogy (though, if I'm not mistaken, he want a part of the final installment? Could be wrong).
Epicus Magnus Howard wasn't in Rises. Also, While I agree that people don't give enough credit for Howard, all he did was mainly add on Zimmer's composition. In an interview they stated that they created the soundtrack by Zimmer making a track and then passing it to Howard, who adds to it and polishes it. Howard's only actual creation for this soundtrack is Dent's theme (Which happens to be my third favorite track).
@@parkourhamster4405 Oh that's interesting. While I appreciate your concern, I find it fascinating that it is *a matter of concern* in the context of fictional entertainment and a TRIBUTE to an actor who met an untimely death. But breaking down what you said about 'deranged, frightening man in history'. In The Dark Knight's Joker's case, he makes his intentions known (with the use of violence and fear) to prove his point to Batman and perhaps a jab at democracy that; "... when the chips are down, these civilized people, they'll eat each other. See I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curb". -Joker to Batman. "...upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos...and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair". -Joker to Dent. Unlike some REAL-LIFE historical deranged frightening men; who initiates a philosophy of utopian propaganda and once achieve superiority demands the segregation, capture and execution of thousands of people in concentration camps or killing fields. Or the act of violence on terrorism will bring peace and resolution. Note that I DO NOT CONDONE any form of violence and terrorism at all. Neither would I smile at those real-life deranged frightening men. This was purely a tribute to Ledger's portrayal.
Natascha: But this is a democracy, Harvey. Harvey Dent: When their enemies were at the gates, the Romans would suspend democracy and appoint one man to protect the city, and it wasn't considered an honor it was considered a public service. Rachel Dawes: Harvey, the last man that they appointed to protect the republic was named Caesar and he never gave up his power. Harvey Dent: Okay fine...you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
I love this track, because it isn't triumphant. The Joker won. He totally won. Evil prevailed in the movie - and this whole track is about Batman picking himself back up and fighting on anyway. It's downbeat and tragic, but still shakes you to your bones. Just an amazing piece of music.
That's why it's one of the best films of all time. A superhero film where the Villain survived and actually won in the end. Marvel could never reach this level
This quote stuck in my mind since i watched it and with time it feels to understand that it has more meanings "Why do we fall Bruce. "So we can learn to pick ourselves up" ♥️♥️
I think it was a big mistake by DC to reboot the Batman franchise again. TDK trilogy is probably the best superhero trilogy ever made. I know the DC universe is to unreal for Nolan's Batman, but I think it could work. When rebooting, people get's confused. Nolan already established a very popular Batman that most people can relate to. Imagine seeing Christian Bale's Batman vs Henry Cavill Superman. That would be awesome.
A reboot was bound to happen but I hate how it's so soon. Really? an announcement one year after TDKR? It sounded like they were taking the piss. It's kind of disrespectful that they're trying to sweep TDK trilogy under the rug like that so soon. Bale is still the definitive for an entire generation , just relax and wait a while before introducing the character again. Although it was a similar thing when they replaced Keaton with Kilmer. And now there are talks of a Spider-Man reboot when I was warming up to Andrew Garfield. I hate hollywood.
This upcoming batman is not a reboot, it's bats in his older self so it's not a reboot. Don't know the plot but if it's based on Miller's TDKR, he might have already retired and had to come back.
I'm still curious to see what Ben Affleck could bring to the table. Like before no one said a good batman game could be made, and now we have the arkham series. The Christopher Nolan trilogy will always have a place in my heart, but we should also move on and see what other villians they could bring in. Even if it does go to shit, at least we still have one trilogy that did well :)
The news of Kevin Conroy's passing is devastating. To help cope with my personal fan-born grief, I instinctually began to listen to this track at full volume. Such is the enduring power of the Batman as a pop culture icon. At his best, his exploits in both print and on screen help us to confront grief and sorrow. The best of his stories can inspire us to meet the moment with our heads held high, even in the dark. And for 30 years, Conroy exemplified this, contributing so very much to this legacy. Both "Batman: The Animated Series" and "The Dark Knight Trilogy" are works equally worthy of the cape and cowl. And this track remains my favorite piece of music in the character's 80 plus year legacy... So far. It's mournful moments like these that remind us why we need Batman.
He kinda did, there’s an animated Batman movie that takes place in the Nolanverse (between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) and Kevin Conroy voices Batman in it
This is my favourite score of The Dark Knight, and not just The Dark Knight, the whole Dark Knight Trilogy. This score is very beautiful, sad, motivational, sinister, tragic, hopeful all at once. This score is enough to describe everything that is going on in the movie, whilst wrapping everything up. A hint of the Joker's theme at the end shows that he hasn't lost... it's not a happy ending, it gives something much, much more... I come back to this score nearly every day to once again play this beautiful music in my ears, leaving me lost in thoughts, leaving me questioning my own life, and whether I can be better... This score is a masterpiece, This movie is a masterpiece, This trilogy is a masterpiece.

Got to say, I'm not a fan of either DC or Marvel, but at one point I was extremely interested in all this ordeal. However, things change and at some points interests change as well. I sometimes look back at the times when I enjoyed Marvel Cinematic Universe, first times I watched Dark Knight's trilogy. Looking at this now, majority of Marvel's films are ultimately just a popcorn flick at best for me, having little of value now. But the "Dark Knight"... Every time I rewatch it I feel just as mesmerized as the first time I watched it, as it leaves such an intellectual impact upon viewing. In short, the film is timeless.

Two completely different kind of movies that shouldn't be compared.
@@Tyrfingr yeah but they both comes under the category of superhero/supervillain movies so some people start comparin them.
Rigel Bellatrix
Did you even watch the Joker?

@@eduardoretamalsaavedra1010 that was just some rumour.. Christopher Nolan always and only planned for it to be a trilogy
you got a 🔮 mate?
Hahahhahah!''
But seriously though that comment is deep.
+BODDENERGON I belive he was talking about the scars of life.
The fact that there are people who gave this a thumbs down is proof that some people just want to watch the world burn

Completely agree!
Listen to all his scores…. he encapsulates them PERFECTLY!!
It tells the story without having to tell it
This score is written in D minor, which is referred to as the saddest and dark key signature, even by man classical composers.
Its Hans's number 1 key signature. Overrated and overused key imo...

At the moment, i don't know if DC is really beating Marvel with comics because of everyone thinking the New 52 sucks. So IMO Marvel is winning.

It's in my routine
People tend to sometime forget that simplicity is not always a bad thing.
AND JAMES NEWTON HOWARD!!!!!
It infuriates me when people credit Zimmer with composing the entire score.
11 years later and still gold!

Im concerned you’re smiling at the most deranged, frightening man in history. Heath ledger’s joker, while well played, was down right terrifying
@@parkourhamster4405 Oh that's interesting. While I appreciate your concern, I find it fascinating that it is *a matter of concern* in the context of fictional entertainment and a TRIBUTE to an actor who met an untimely death.
But breaking down what you said about 'deranged, frightening man in history'. In The Dark Knight's Joker's case, he makes his intentions known (with the use of violence and fear) to prove his point to Batman and perhaps a jab at democracy that;
"... when the chips are down, these civilized people, they'll eat each other.

Harvey Dent: Okay fine...you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
tharun laxman thanks 🙏
I love this track, because it isn't triumphant. The Joker won. He totally won. Evil prevailed in the movie - and this whole track is about Batman picking himself back up and fighting on anyway. It's downbeat and tragic, but still shakes you to your bones. Just an amazing piece of music.
It's very sad and tragic to listen but still feels heroic and noble, that's who Batman is.
That's why it's one of the best films of all time. A superhero film where the Villain survived and actually won in the end.
Marvel could never reach this level
He didn't win, because Batman could take it, so they chased him, because that's what needed to happen
I wouldn't say he really won, the people didn't blow up the boat like he wanted them too, but he did turn Harvey evil so its like a half victory.
@@fforfreedom8893 Thanos won in Infinity War. But then again, I didn't really see Thanos as a villain.
"Why do we fall Bruce?
So that we can learn to pick ourselves up"
This quote stuck in my mind since i watched it and with time it feels to understand that it has more meanings
"Why do we fall Bruce.

Agreed. It would have been unmissable.
Tdk 2 is a masterpiece, the other 2 are not bad
RIP Kevin Conroy, I know he had nothing to do with Nolans series, but this OST, just hits all feels. Rest Easy you Legend.
On the contrary my friend thay have to do because this is the Batman World all this connected
All the Batmans in the multiverse are grieving and are keeping up the fight rip Kevin your one of the best batman ever
This still inspires me. I listen to the Dark Knight Soundtrack every time I work out.
Hans Zimmer. A man who can reach to the core of human emotion and perseverance. A man who can tell the story of any human great or small by the simple notion that inspiration & hope play hand in hand with robust fortes. A true Mozart of our time and we don't know it. Yet.
That's why he made the music for boss baby
Tom Chang is also a Mozart of our time. He can compose and sing pitches even higher than women with his natural voice.

I see that i hold a sanctuary in their hearts, and in the hearts of their descendants, generations hence. A very touching speech. The Bat Game is too easy for Nolan, next please.

Nolan Trilogy is one of the best set of movies ever made.
5:56 Favorite part...just makes it feel like Batman is really sacrificing everything he has for a city that doesn’t even DESERVE him...

Drive through Chicago's downtown loop playing this song, you'll feel like you're in Gotham City, and it is real. Zimmer's best work here.
Gotham is based off of NY I thought
@Ryan Dunham Gotham City = Based on NYC, but the TDK series was filmed mostly in Chicago
Next time try the same act ,while driving in rain . You will not regret it.

The best movie in cinematographic's history, every single scene is magic and that's thanks to Nolan, Zimmer, Ledger, Caine, Freeman and Bale and the whole fabulous team, thank's to all of them for making us vibrate and experience the epic feeling
its not nearly the best movie in cinematographic history

Ken Catus Nolan is Amazing hahaha. Avengers and etc are great but nothing can top this Trilogy.
You're a fan of Images comics than...
Ultra Lord Wait, how is this sentence makes any sense? I don't get what you're trying to say. Would you mind to expand on that?
Ultra Lord Sorry, you meant "Image Comics"? I take my previous comment back. No, I haven't read any of "Image Comics", only heard about "Spawn".
+Ken Catus I agree completely with you! Same story as mine. When someone recomended a superhero movie cus they loved i was always like "meeh, sure, they are good to pass some popcorn along" and that was it. Then i went to see The Dark Knight to the cinema , without any knowledge of Batman whatsoever.
I was blown away :´). Iv taken this trilogy so seriously, its burried so deep inside me now. I dont think ill ever watch a movie that makes me feel this way again :(
Hans Zimmer to me is one of the best modern composers
My man Hans adds SO much to a movie with his music, it’s absolutely wild…
