Andrew is by far the best. He’s the one who I think managed to get the personality right with both Peter and Spidey. He actually looks like Peter in the comics. While I prefer the action scenes in the Raimi films, I think Andrew looks the most Spidery in his action scenes. He also has the best swinging sequences.

For me it's by far Andrew Garfield. As someone who grew up with Spider-Man comics and the animated show Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends from the 80's (even though I was born in 2004), the Raimi films were never my first introduction to the character unlike some people and so I was never as emotionally attached to that version and I can't say I particularly cared for Tobey Maguire in the role or Kirsten Dunst as MJ. I much more preferred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. To this day there has not been a live action Spider-Man who's voice actually makes me think of the character's speech bubbles in the comics like he did.

All three of them play the same character but in different ways, on one hand I love Tobey's dorky Peter and his much more stoic Spider-Man, the other I love Andrew's odd Peter and his quippy Spider-Man, and the third I love Tom's energetic Peter and quirky Spider-Man. I literally can't pick one.

I 100% agree with everything you guys said. Andrew Garfield also said in the actors on actor’s interview that he didn’t want his Peter Parker portrayed to that way. He said that he wanted His Spider-Man/Peter Parker to be exactly like the comics but Sony told him to shut up and that he didn’t know how to direct so he never showed up for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. He could’ve had the 3rd film but he didn’t want Sony to continue to tarnish the character that we love and also who he loves.

I grew up watching Raimi Spiderman and I loved him. I used to know every dialogue in Spiderman 2... but as I grew up and grew up with the Spiderman comics I found in TASM my definitive life action Spidey. He just is the perfect Romita era. People seem to forget that the nerdy, introverted Peter just lasted about 50 issues. Since the spider bite he builds courage, charisma and self confidence, and that makes him a lady's man. Tobey's Spiderman its just too boring, too passive and sometimes plain stupid. The problem I have with Spiderman 2 is that he's so fucking passive and let everyone to step on him all the time. And that's just frustrating bcs comic's Peter would never behave like that.

Tobey, definitely. There were aspects of Andrew that were, in their ways, improvements to a Spider-Man story, but those films didn't have the Heart that the Raimi trilogy did. For example, the time dedicated to hunting down the guy who shot Uncle Ben. That was great. And if it had been in the OG Spider-Man movie, I think it would have served the story better than the Catching Criminals Montage. But at the end of the day, Tobey's Spider-Man encapsulated a person driven by a need to both overcome his personal failings and live up to the memory of a beloved father figure.
That's Spider-Man. The quips and attitude are a nice touch, but they flow from a pain that won't heal. Tobey sells that better than Andrew ever did.

My personal favourite is Andrew Garfield. The way people say they grew up with Tobey's Spider-Man was how it was for me and TASM 1. I will say that the first Spider-Man movie I ever watched on tv was the 3rd Tobey movie, and it was good, but I only ever watched it a couple of times, not enough to get attached. But TASM 1 was the 1st Spider-Man movie I ever owned (through completely...ummm...legal means). I remember watching it almost every Friday after school to start the weekend off right. Andrew was just so fun and interesting as Spider-Man and Gwen was one of my first serious crushes as a kid. Infact, I remember the only reason I hated TASM 2 was because they killed off Gwen and it bummed me out as a kid.
Sure now as an adult (apparently) I can see the flaws in both movies. They're not perfect and Spider-Man 2 is probably the best Spider-Man movie ever in terms of story. But I still have a great love for TASM 1 and Andrew's Spider-Man and it's the movie I keep coming back to coz I love it so much.

Spider-Man 2 got every aspect of Peter Parker life going downhill as Spider-Man git more popular. Then when he decides to be Spider-Man no more the way the city is starting to fall a part without their hero just did it for me. And the chemistry between Peter and his villians just were so fitting. I think Sandman should've been the main villian in 3 but all 3 together tells an very compelling story. I also love how the movies hint that May knows Peter is Spider-Man but she just never acknowledged it

A note about that old issue where the Avengers consider Spidey for membership, that is the issue where Spider-Man learns that the Hulk is actually Bruce Banner. That's why Spidey tells the Avengers that he couldn't find the Hulk. He DID find the Hulk (it was his initiation test, to bring the Hulk in) but he lied because they thought they would arrest Banner or otherwise hurt him. He didn't know that they wanted to help Hulk.

A bit late to the party on this one but, new subscriber guys; keep up the great work! But ah, yeah, this topic just reminds me of the feeling those original Sam Raimi/Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies gave me. Like, just as an example, during the final fight against the Goblin in the first one, when the score just cuts out completely, and it's just Spidey getting a brutal beatdown until Norman does the dumb supervillain thing and threatens the hero's loved ones. It's so visceral and real, and the blows have such genuine impact; like you can feel the punches to the face yourself. Such great films.

For someone who wants to stay in the neighborhood he has to fight planet level threats and he gets frustrated. It's good to see the teenaged character act like that. Especially in 3 when he tries to kill G.G. before saving him makes him almost the most human and relatable of all the spider men. But I also respect your reasoning.

For me personally it's Andrew Garfield, I grew up watching his movies first and I like him the most he has the best suit, the best action, the best humor and I feel he's been through the most amount of loss out of any Spider-Man and the people he lost are also the same people comic book Spidey lost as in Uncle Ben, George Stacy and Gwen. His Peter definitely needed some work I get the criticism of him being way too attractive and him coming across as too confident or extroverted but one thing I like about him is how intelligent he was.

  • @rocknroadley8440
    @rocknroadley8440 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Andrew is the best.
If the one main criticism is he's too cool and good looking, I really don't think there's much bad to say about him. Besides, Peter Parker has often been drawn as a stud in comics over the last few years, and he was depicting a modern day Spider-Man.
He nailed the awkward charm Peter has and never seemed as if he knew he was a model, to me anyway. He played a convincing introvert and he had a tragic childhood to back it up with. Not saying Tobey's didn't either, but the loss of his parents wasn't something that was really touched on.
Tobey was too awkward for my tastes and a bit dry, he had no humour about him when he had the mask on and that's a big part of Spider-Man. You could tell Andrew loved being in that suit and that really helped with the fun attitude Spidey has. Plus, Peter Parker is supposed to be a genius, he's not just your everyday kid. Andrew pulled off that angle convincingly too.
I think a lot can be said about how he stole the show in No Way Home. The real issue with his Spider-Man wasn't his fault, he just had poor material to work with. His first film was mediocre and his second was awful. Toby had two really solid films, especially Spider-Man 2. Even as bad as 3 is, it has became an iconic meme at this point.
But all that said, if you put Andrew in the Raimi trilogy, people would love him. I personally think he'd make the films even better, not that Tobey was bad. I liked him but to me there was always just something missing with his incarnation of Spider-Man. I think he maybe fit into the everyday dork persona too well? Andrew's portrayal really gave me that sense of wonder I had as a kid.
On a side note, Holland didn't even give me the sense that he's a convincing nerd, nevermind Spider-Man. I mean come on, he can't even recall the title of The Empire Strikes Back. He has a Palatine lego figurine but can't name one of the original Star Wars films?

Only thing in this video I disagree with, respectfully, is the Gwen argument in TASM2. I actually really love how much Spider-Man can't make up his mind, it hurts so much because I can really understand that. Caught between responsibility and love, and he kept teetering on that the whole movie, and it cost him. It's both endearing and heartbreaking to see Peter struggle to stay away from Gwen like that in the movie.

Andrews my favorite. I get why people think the skateboarding made him seem "cool" but understand this. Rodney Mullen the inventor of most street skating tricks, a true legend and innovator to skateboarding was a lonely kid on a farm that didn't fit in with other sports... Sound familiar? Skateboarding today is widely recognized and has finally progressed and gained its earned respect being in the Olympics and all. But initially skateboarding was for those individuals who were loners. The whole idea of skateboarding was you didn't need a team. When the first The Amazing Spider -Man came out March Webb's idea was this.. Nerd no longer has the same meaning as it did pre 2000s. Pre 2000s nerds were bullied, not accepted etc... Now we still have a long way to go 😂 but the term "nerd" has become a more socially acceptable way of life. So marc web decided to make Andrews Peter more of an outcast. Not just a nerd but someone who didn't fit in.

Garfield truly solidified himself in my mind as the definitive Spider-Man after several scenes. In TASM 1, it was the bridge scene, and in TASM 2, it was his interaction with the kid being bullied for his science project. You could argue it was only because Garfield was by generational timing “MY spider-man” nd so by nature I can relate more, nd mayb ur right, all ik is that out of the three, I can identify with Garfield’s depiction more, and to me, the essence of Spider-Man is relatability. That’s what’s so beautiful about his character, we can all have our own one true Spider-Man. js so happens to be Garfield is mine.

So that means you saw him as a bad Peter not Spiderman. Tobey is the worst Spiderman and best Peter going 616. Andrew is a excellent Spiderman and the worst Peter if going off 616. However Andrew represents ultimate universe Peter and he does a amazing job at playing that Peter.

I honestly can't pick a favorite among the three, to me they are all Spider-Man. Each actor embodies a certain aspect of him, from Tobey's everyman struggles, Andrew's quips and mastery of gadgetry, and Tom's desire to always do good even when it will make things harder for him.

    CERTIFIED CHAD OPINION 💯
Maguire's Spider-Man 2 is not only the greatest Live Action Spidey film but the greatest Solo Live Action Superhero film. Its only remote competitor is the Dark Knight which should speak volumes.
Spidey 2 perfectly captures the essence of everything Spiderman was meant to be. Its such an introspective, emotional character piece the likes of which we typically only see in art films, with all the added appeal of a well crafted Superhero Action film. You guys articulated very well what makes this film special. Its the truest essence of the "Everyman's Superhero".
This is what makes Tobeys Spiderman the greatest spiderman. It has nothing to do with his looks or action - the movies he was in just truly understood the essence of Spiderman in a way that we havent seen again in live action, and Tobey was well equipped to convey that turmoil, grief, depression, love, kindness, and honor to audiences.
I watched the entire Raimi trilogy with my 13 year old brother (we have a big age gap) a few months ago because he really liked the Spiderverse movies and expressed a lot of interest in Spiderman lore and I was so happy that he was actually blown away by the films, even tho he initially was off put by the older visual effects, he was actually frightened by Dafoes Goblin and by the time we got to Spidey vs Ock on the train, he was cheering outloud for Pete. Top quality art is truly timeless.

I think a lot of people don’t give too much credit to Tom. I think a lot of folks miss the point that he’s a kid, a high schooler, he is going to mess up a lot. So it’s no surprise that for 3 movies he is going to have to learn and fail.
Which I can understand for I guess some people, they might find it annoying.

While I think andrew was the closest to a comic spiderman, tobeys just been too impactful, relatable or heartfelt of them all, representing the impact the comcis themselves had and what made them special, the one you can take the most from his films,
but love to all 3, lucky to even have 3 spidermen as a whole

I'm going to have to disagree on Tom Holland. I like Tom Holland as Spider-Man. He's fun and energetic, and his movies are the most fun for me to watch.
He does bring a certain youthful energy to the character I don't think we've seen a lot of in the past, and I like it.
I heard that his comic accuracy varies. I don't read comics, unfortunately, so I'll say this: he fits into some part of comic Spider-Man, although I don't know which one.
As for him, not doing things by himself, I hope that the new trilogy will lean more into that.
I love all 3 Spider-Mans, but Tom Holland is my favorite one.

Andrew. Cuz he's fun. The music is awesome. The swinging is awesome. The quips are awesome. The villains have their quirks, but I get where they were going with them, so I like em as well, even Goblin (kinda. nasty unhinged guy, his fight went hard).
Also, I like that in the first movie his Peter has come to the "great responsibility" thing mostly by himself, just like in the original comic, which isn't a big deal, but it does bother me once in a while.
UPD: Uhm, too tall? Isn't Andrew pretty much the same height as the comic Peter? Only 1 cm difference.
The flip-flop with Gwen critique is understandable. Altho, the creeping is in line with TASM1, with him being a lonely weirdo.
Yeah, just the sheer "OG" status and memes make Toby peak, even if I don't like his Peter or the movies themselves.

I say Tobey only because it's the movie series i grew up rewatching over and over and loved. But I will say this: Andrew Garfield is definitely the best actor for spiderman, I really just dislike the second movie, despise even. I was around 12 when it released and back then didn't rate it at all. Tom Holland, like you guys said, can and probably will become the best, in fact homecoming is one of my all time favorites, I feel like it's the most relatable movie next to spiderman 2 which is what makes me at least love spiderman and peter parker in the first place

Peter had Jessica Jones, Betty Brant, Gwen Stacy, Black Cat, MJ, and a bunch of other women interested in him. And like the first few are from his highschool years. So in that aspect, Peter has never really been relatable. I do think keeping Andrew in the glasses and having him dress a little nerdier might have been better but they definitely wanted to differentiate from Tobey's trilogy and making him a fringe skaterboy thats kind of on the outside of the rest of his peers still definitely works for Peter. Although, thats more accurate to the "A-hole Era" of Peter where he's constantly bummed out about everyone and everything. Its definitely the worst era of Peter but i think the movies use it and change it to make Andrew's Peter very endearing. Like they show him still sticking up for the little guy in his scenes where he confronts Flash. But he's still definitely an outcast.
It's probably clear that Andrew is my favorite Spider-Man and i seriously love his portrayal of the character. And if anyone deserves another movie, its definitely him (although the plans for TASM 3 were absolute crap & if they went back to make the movie, the entire thing needs a plot change)

i like andrews peter more than the 3 live action. people don’t like the fact that he’s handsome for some weird reason i guess being handsome just automatically makes you confident when in the movie he isn’t really confident until gwen’s shows interest then he begins to feel more comfortable around her and we get to see our hero be less shy around people and girls like in the first scenes of TASM. andrew has the sarcasm, the subtle charisma peter has in the comics, the quick witted humor 😂, the selfish moments..etc which make him feel human. where as tobeys spider-man feels kinda like he’s perfect like he has no flaws as a person. but yea to sum it up i relate to andrews peter more than tobeys or toms. he has flaws, he can be very awkward, hard headed..etc. andrew had more of the ultimate spider-man personality from the comics which is in my opinion better than the original. people usually forget originality doesn’t equal great. i mean look “the boys” comics
