Everybody Hates This New iPhone 16 Feature! STOP IT!

- People seem to really hate or dislike the new iPhone 16 camera action button installed on the side of the phone and present on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, I'm glad that Apple added the camera action button and I think it's more appropriate and useful than many people seem to be letting on at this point. And hey, at least it's new and they tried!

I remember when people were hating on Samsungs Bixby button
Anyone that paid $999 for the iPhone X in 2017 will appreciate this years base model. It's a solid device at good price
All my hate is exclusively for the 60hz display on the regular iPhones. I don't mind the rest lol
Yes. Hate hate hates.
I hated the camera action button at first when I was trying to use it with my right hand. But as soon as I figured out how perfect it was to use it with my left hand, and more specifically, my left ring finger, it became one of my favorite ways to take a picture. I just hold my phone with my left hand, rest my ring finger on the button, and squeeze when I want a picture taken. Feels a lot more ergonomic, and less prone to accidental twisting my wrist when trying to capture a quick action photo

Then don’t buy the phone lol I’m skipping the 16 series this year 👍🏻
Me too. I’m sticking with my 15 👍🏻😊
Go for it
As you should
We are still in this iphone 14 generation of iphones
And IMO if you have a 14 or 15, buying the 16 would be a crime

I don’t hate the bottom, what I hate is the fact it’s clearly! in the wrong place! I hope later on, the developers comes with a cool idea for us , to give that bottom a better use! Will see
Where would you prefer the bottom to be?

Adam giving the iPhone the benefit of the doubt? These are truly the end times.
I hit my head yesterday. I think I may be concussed. lol
I like it but don't like the cases so far. Huge cutouts, hopefully they'll be able to use the same type of button Apple does on the official case soon.
For the price of iPhones and how much they’ve been emphasizing about the capabilities of their cameras the past years, I would’ve expected to see the shutter button sooner, especially for the pro models. Seems like a natural feature to add.
The camera shutter button is also available on my Galaxy s24.😊 And for a whole lot less cash🎉
Well, it’s not exactly.
The ultra was originally priced the same as the iPhone pro max. The reason the Samsungs drop so much in price is because they sell very poorly. The iPhones outsell the high-end Samsung phones by a factor 8 or 9 to 1. Plus that price drop means the resale value on Galaxies are poor compared to iPhones.
I’ve had plenty of android phones and lost plenty of money on them because the resale value is crap I’ll get the iPhone 16 ultramarine it’s a great phone for most people
Technically once the camera is open the volume up or down takes pictures and the camera can launch from side button in locked screen. Just no focus features. It would be nice have focus too. But it's far from less cash. lol Both phones and Pixels are great phones. I wouldn't complain about having the button on my S24U that would do all three function with one button. I do like having the S Pen, Ultra Watch or setting Timer Multi Function to one second and take up to 7 pictures. 1 to 3 seconds after saying cheese or smile
I think a lot of tech TH-camrs are so engrossed in their own BS they forget how normal consumers think.
Tech Odyssey is a trusted source. ONE OF US!!! ❤
I put my phone in my front pocket. so I would always be hitting it by accident.... not everyone uses a case on phones. I have the fold 6 and pix 9 xl, and I never use cases. because I never drop phones. The first thing I thought when I saw that cam button was how I would be turning on the cam everytime I put it in my pocket.....I would have to disable the button. but the big thing for me is, no good trade in or promo deals on apple. and no sim card is big also. I like to switch phones all the time.
The camera button is flush with the sides and it would be very difficult to turn it on in your pocket, yeah it may happen but it would be rare. I also carry my phone in my front pocket without a case since the release date and not once did I turn on the camera while in my pocket. I dont think that is something people need to worry about.
I got mine yesterday. I upgraded from an iPhone 8 so take it for what you will. The button I think is fine to activate the camera in landscape and zoom if you need quickly but the way I am holding the phone for that means less shake if I just tap the shutter circle on screen. I am sure if I was filming a motorbike ride past and used rapid shot it would be better. If I were filming video it would also be useful. It depends upon your use. The phone has an extra feature to last year and a lot more than the 8 Plus while being $50 AUD cheaper than the 15. I am happy.
Great video! Being a person that takes a lot of landscape photos, I actually like the camera control button. It does take some getting used to, but it’s not useless. I think the main reason Apple added it is for upcoming AI features where you can snap a quick pic of places and things on the go. That’s why it’s on all the iPhone 16’s not just the pros. I do think it will get better overtime.
You don't need a dedicated button just to open the camera. You can use the Action button.
This button is totally superfluous. Maybe Apple had to add something, but this wasn't it.
the button isn't JUST to open the camera, though. You can control the camera with it.
@@ER0CK5_ He's saying that despite the awkwardness of using the button, you can at least use it to open the camera. Otherwise, who gives a sh*t about the button?
I find myself using it a lot lately, it really needs a burst shot feature though, if you have to take a photo or record real quick it’s very useful
I completely understand if someone doesn’t like it. It is fine to critique it. You can say it’s bad (I like it). But when people say that it’s useless and they don’t understand it or think that anyone will like it, I just don’t respect anything that comes out of their mouth because it seems that they have skipped some theory of mind developmental steps growing up
Some Techies think it's great.
Well, I think it’s neat. I don’t know about great.
@@Gary0557 it is
People moaning about it will still buy the phone though Adam.😂
But of course
I like the camera button. Can quickly access camera even when in an app.
I love Face ID. I work with my hands and back in the Touch ID days, I’d have to redo it every week, so I gave up and stuck with passcode.
I've seen someone on TH-cam using one of those "ring stand"type of case with it and THAT is what makes it more balanced in hand when using the camera control. Seemed useful to me. I know my wife would like it, but we're sticking with 15pro she's got already. Not something to really sway her towards it.
To be honest, that camera button is definitely a gimmick thing when it comes to practical usage. Apple had to show that they did something different from the previous year. Having that i still believe people who love iphones are going to get it anyway.
I am not saying it’s a feature worth upgrading for. I’m just saying I would rather have it than not
@@TechOdyssey Yes, agreed Sir!
@@TechOdyssey Btw I'm not your critic, i just kept my honest viewpoint. And, let me know you, i watch every single video of yours and appreciate your honest work.
@@MOON-Hkr oh I know. I wasn’t taking your comment as negative. Thanks for saying that though
I haven’t really used the camera button. I think it’s okay to pull up the camera but zooming or navigating the settings isn’t worth the trouble
I'm puzzled. The camera icon is at the bottom right on my lock screen. All i have to do is PRESS it and the camera app opens. It can be done in less than 2 seconds. That's not fast enough?
It's not enough to just give us a feature. It must be useful and function as advertised. This camera button seems as of now to be failing on both counts
I really do like the camera action button and where they placed it. If the phone is in my pocket and I see something where I need to quickly get the camera out, I do already press it inside the pocket and the camera app is on, when I point it at the subject. It's not perfect and you need a fair amount of force to activate it but I have grown custom to it. especially when you need to change lenses, you don't have to release your grip.
Why? I check one out at Best Buy and found that the placement is wrong (for me) and the touch sensitivity is pretty poor. This is not a feature I would upgrade for. For me it is that simple. Btw - for camera pull up on my Pixel 9 Pro … 😂😂😂😂😂. Seriously simple. On the iPhone can add this to the “Action Button”.
The whole more is better is a catch 22, Samsung has implemented everything imaginable to their phones which is good if u like to tinker with it for hours and days but it can be frustrating digging thru layers of menus and sub menus for the simplest thing
The camera control is not bad. It is redundant. There are at least 4 other ways to launch the camera, lock screen button, lock screen swipe to the left, from the control centre, from the app itself and lastly from action button. The half press features are gimmicky and not polished. Maybe the button will be useful with Ai as Apple showed in their presentation and the press to focus if and when it comes.
I hate the camera button. I’m thankful they allowed us to disable it completely in the camera app settings. I’ll never use it. I’ll go old school photos like the older iphones
Dude you click it and boom ready for the picture. It’s a no brainer 😂
@@xXRpB3ASTXx So you dedicate an entire button just to open the camera? What a waste of space.
Adam this is off topic but will Samsung accept my z fold 4 trade in with screen protector peeling?Should I just peel it off?
It’s fine you can leave it alone. As long as the screen itself is ok you won’t have any issues.
I like all ur videos! W man. Love the pikachu wallpaper xD
That new button is Kinda like the camera power button on Androids for years lol
A 60 hurtz panel in 2024 is crazy
I overlooked the $30 fee that Apple imposes. Off the top of my head, I can't recall any other brand that charges extra for an unlocked phone. I'm curious about the number of people who pay this fee to Apple. Actually, I'm also wondering if the international versions of iPhones are subject to this charge.
It would've been cool if it zoomed hard to read text in day to day.. fingerprint sensor. Trackpad to isolate something. Etc.
this is the organized Apple Bashing!!!!! I am like Bobby Mc Ferrin, don't worry, be happy!!!!
8K would be cooler than extra button
Waiting for BlackFriday specials to come out from my provider!
Yes! Fingerprint scanner!

Great content. Can't you open up the camera app by using the power button? They should have made it a little bit lower🤔 they should have made that camera button a fingerprint scanner.
It definitely should have been a fingerprint sensor too
@@TechOdyssey can you program the 16pro max power button to activate the camera
@@jeromegold3216 never tried. I don’t think so though. The double click is already set for Apple Pay. Plus we have the action button so its unnecessary
Is it just me who swipes to the left to open up my camera, the button seems to take longer than that honestly.
@@tshepisotsotetsi2903 how does the camera button take longer? You just press it. lol. You’re being ridiculous
When will Android 15 be released?
Even Apple tech reviewers are complaining about the camera control but the fact that even Apple centric channels are complaining about the chemical control must tell you something. It’s not great. But people complaining by the new iPhones.
I think it’s just whining.
120 Hz is better than the camera 📸 button.
My only concern is if I pick the phone up and tap the button and launch the camera, that would bother me. Unlike what people ask for most people hate change, they love the same old same old. The older they get the worse it gets, they hate new music, they know what foods they like and don’t want to try anything new. Thus the expression you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Real change comes as generations change, the majority of people that get newspapers and watch network news have done so all their lives. In general as the older generation passes away so do hard copy print newspapers. The people that will live a new button as a rule will experience it as a norm, it will be what has been there. When things change it a big deal to those that notice it as a change. A bit sad but it’s normal.
I don’t really like the feel of it in the hand because of what it does to cases (cutout or raised button)
I’m using it as just a camera shortcut, and am not sold on it as a better way to tweak settings (something I rarely do, most people myself included point & shoot) than the onscreen controls-or a useful shutter button, since the press can jar your phone compared to tapping the shutter button onscreen
I’ll get some value from using it as a camera shortcut, but I think I’d prefer that the next phone I upgrade to not have it
If not for base iPhones still being 60Hz, I’d have just wanted the better-looking Teal 16 for a bit less money, because the camera bump here is dramatically larger than the 11 Pro I came from
I like this phone, but it feels weird knowing I’d like the base model more if not for the refresh rate, and weird knowing there has to be a better phone than the 16 Pro on the near horizon
Next two years some time, I hope is all it takes for some of the following that feel already-overdue: no more front camera cutout, maybe more compact back cameras? 120Hz on base model seems likely soon. TouchID return… please? Maybe someday? If not, maybe FaceID working at way more angles (I just want back the seamless tabletop phone unlock).
Picked up the 16 pro they sold out pro max and I'm quite impressed with battery life! 😅but definitely probably going with the max once my carrier has them in stock typing is to cramped for me 😅
I’m buying a 15 pro max case to go on 16 plus to cover the button up 😂
may just be a joke, but it won't fit.
The mute button works just fine for me as a camera shutter button
How does that work???
@@horridohobbies set to camera , opens then press to capture
@@aussiebobb Oh, you're talking about the Action button. I thought you meant the old mute switch.
I love the camera button and I also understand that the ai features are going to utilize it.
I'm not sure about patents. But the twist motion to activate the camera 📸 on Motorola and the karate chop to turn on the flash light would be good with apple. And they would not need that camera button. And allocate the action button to something else.
As far as iPhones, they only needed 90hz display and the A.I.
As far as the apple watches are concerned they only needed regular HRV readings not sporadic. HRV is the number 1 health metric that most other smart or sports watches have.
90hz and accelerometer actions for the phone.
Regular consistent HRV - the most important metric for the watch.
Accelerometer action is a software change.
Regular consistent HRV is a software change. - no new hardware required.
Like I said already. If you've never had an iPhone or have an older one then go for it. But if you have a 14 or 15 then save your money unless you have to have the latest and greatest.
if you have a 14 and want the USB-C it can be worth it.
Doesn't the camera open up by double pressing the power button?
No. That opens Apple Pay
True so true agree 100% 😊
Just because they did “something” doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.
I returned mine after trying it for a week.
Ok
If I can swipe left to go straight to the camera from the lock screen on my iPhone 11, honestly I can't see it being of any use to me.... But Im also the type of guy who actually used the mute switch on my iPhone and didn't really want an action button either so I would be the wrong one to weigh in on the subject 😂😂😂... That's why I need to just buy the SE
I. Probably not getting an iPhone, ever but Tech Reviewers should just provide all the tech information to the viewers and let them decide what is useful or stupid. A dedicated video on how ONE feature sucks is too much lol.

I'm certainly not a big fan of apple but holy shit guys if they add ANYTHING surely thats a win isn't it.
On my Samsung phone, I just press the power button twice in the camera pops up. I don’t understand why iPhone can’t do that.
odyssey can you do a review of the virtue pro xr glasses? if you can
I’ve never heard of them. Who makes them?
You mentioned Touch ID so I had to comment. Ive used Face ID for many years and Samsung's ultrasonic fingerprint reader which is the good standard in the Android world. FaceID is hands down the better choice for a smartphone. Yes, the old round button based fingerprint readers on old iPhones were great, but once you go full screen, a fingerprint reader on the back or side of the phone gets really old really quick. If youve used an iPad Air you'll know Apple's fingerprint side button is garbage. People would revolt in the streets if they put that on the iPhone. And as for screen based fingerprint readers, they arent terrible but they are an extra step when you tap a notification on your lock screen. Why have it when great facial recognition technology is available? As someone who is platform agnostic, Face ID is 100% the best solution for authentication on a smartphone.
I did buy the 16 pro…………love it!!
Great video, great job, keep up the good work! Off topic, I would like to know if you would make a video about the media tech 9300 plus? Maybe the difference between the Snapdragon.
Maybe. I'll have to look into it
Just turn the camera button to off… simple really. 🏴
It's popular to hate apple online now lol
In my case I am left-handed and have to use it upside down and blind as far a seeing the button to slide along it. I am also missing a thumb on my right hand, so a one-handed hold is not possible for me. I think Apple needs to tie it to AI for it to be useful. I zoom in constantly since I am tracking moving objects like cars approaching or I don't want to get people in the background. I often have a need to be very quick (Image a Porche 918 spyder approaching at 30 mph and you have less than 3 seconds to set up and shoot)
your right hand is that weak? lol
@@ER0CK5_ So try holding you phoe with three fingers then use you index finger to try and slid, double press or single press without the phone pivoting on the two ginger you actually have strong contact with. (You pinky really can't excert a reasonable amount of control or force. Try it and see how easy it is one handed. you index finger is too long since the button is very close to the edge making getting good control very difficult nad you have to pivot the joint top maintain contact (That jopint is not designed to pivot so it creates starin on the joint). Its a physiokinetic issue. The design is for the thumb to act as a control. Hard to do when you don't have a thumb or the thumb muscles in your hand to perform the control and positioning action. I can use it two handed but it is still awkward. again try it yourself without using your thumb. simple then tell me its a question of strentgth.

I wish it doubled as touch ID, whenever I'm wearing my CPAP my iPhone functions like it's 2014... :/
Same.
@@hhhmmmmmmmm I'm either waiting for FaceID to fail twice so that I can enter my passcode (equivalant to an old slow phone) or having to enter my password manually, or some apps just refuse to work until I take the damn mask off. I've tried all of the options for making it easier and it still only works 1-2% of the time. So often I go back to my iPhone 7+ at night. Yes it's slow but at least it authenticates.
I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I work on a 6 year upgrade cycle. If Apple could repurpose that button as a fingerprint unlock I'd break the cycle immediately and buy one. It would be a complete game changer for me, even if they just shove it under the category of an 'Accessibility feature". That 'one small thing' would get me to upgrade immediately.
