Good morning Vee, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 🌞🇺🇸 I'm amazed that you can keep all of these plates in the air! Mom, Wife, Chef, Worm Farmer. You amaze me 👍
When we harvest breeder bins, we will leave the cocoons in the bedding, then put the worms into fresh bedding to start the process over again. We use mortar trays, though, and I can only get two trays worth combined into one. I do tend to use a bit more bedding in my trays than you do, though. I LOVE the volume of cocoons you have in your trays! It looks like they are doing superbly well.
So do you sell your adult worms and put the cocoons on the shelf and wait for them to hatch? Or do you setup your adult worms and put the cocoon trays to hatch then go for sale? Thank you by the way😊
@@TheGardenAndWormLady At present, we put the breeders back into the system and put the cocoons into another area for hatching and then grow out areas. We aren't selling any at the moment because we need more castings for sale. We're still in the beginning stages of our business (eighteen months in), and we are focused on growth rather than worm sales.
That was super fun to watch! I think how you handled it was fine. Did you have a total weight of all of the worms? If I recall, they were a 1/4 lb each to start, so I would assume they were maybe 1/2 lb each this time? Have a great weekend!
In the beginning of the video you were filling your sprayer with what looks like regular tap water. Is your water filtered to remove the chlorine and other stuff that's added to tap water? Love your videos , I've gained something from each one I've watched being a new worm caretaker on a lot smaller scale.
Yes our water is extremely filtered with a sophisticated system that does the whole house. Our daughter needs pure water so the worms get the same benefit 😂 If you use tap water let it sit a few days uncovered before you use it. Any chlorine evaporates
@@EricsWormPlayground if I’m going to keep the bedding at about 3 inches for breeders I prefer the smaller ones 20 x 15 x 5. I only put a quarter pound of worms in it so it’s perfect and a lot easier to handle. I like the giant mortar bin for harvesting.
If you’re wondering if this is my only job it’s not, I also work outside tge house plus I run my website and my Etsy shops to provide for worm supplies
@@TheGardenAndWormLady oh ok I was asking because I had started raising red wigglers and night crawlers so I just wanted to know from an experience worm farmer what it's like business wise
@@TheGardenAndWormLady i used a pellet that smelled of cedar at the top and it made the pill bugs leave. I mixed gypsum with it. The worms are just now getting into it and now the pill bugs came back. It was what I had on hand.
Thank you so much for all your video. You give so much knowledge!

Hurray, I have the same questions as you. I need to know how to organize the cocoons and adult worms, too.
Worms for life will respond 😄 teach us

It was a little more than a quarter pound each portion
Excellent video. Appreciate your cool way of explaining with happiness. BTW, how often do you feed the breeder bins?
Thank you😊 usually twice a week but I always look in the bins, if the food is gone I feed, it’s there’s still food I leave it

I believe those bubbles are very good it's from the reproduction process
What size tubs are you using? Do you have a link???
I like the 20x15x5
I order them from websturant.com
Can I use old bone meal to my worm chow?
Sure you can also use bloodmeal
See how long it goes
How long after your 21 days do you allow the babies to remain in the tub until they are out with adults?
After the 21 days when the worms are breeding, I remove the cocoons to hatch and grow up in a bin with all the other cocoons
Your bins, did you end up going with all the 5” high webstaurant bus bins? Or did you go 7” sams? They look 5”.
I use both sizes
@@TheGardenAndWormLady which do you prefer? Was thinking of moving from the mortars to the bus bins. Thoughts?

@@TheGardenAndWormLady thanks Vee! I’ll order a dozen bus bins and try them out. Thanks!,!
Hello, how many worms do you think are in each cocoon? I’ve been interested to know.
I’ve seen 2-6
Why are you only doing an inch or two in your bins ?
For breeding you only need about 3-4 inches, it’s just how it’s done
How much do you make a year from your worm farm?
At the moment I’m breaking even, this is my second year selling

Yes and I am extremely humbled and grateful for every new one I get😊
I have cedar chips. Have you ever tried them?
I have not, but I’m not sure about them because of the cedar oil or a aroma in it

How many worms on each bin?
For those tan bins 250 red wigglers
Thanks for the fast response
another few weeks till you don't see the bedding.
I think leave them for awhile
I agree 😊
Every few days you feed them because you seem to put little food
About 2-3 times a week. Depends on what I see. If the food is gone I go ahead and feed
