Doing God's work for all the Remedy fans out there, Matt, appreciate it a lot!
Thank you!
remedy fans? they still exist? wow!
I really hope we see or hear from Jessie in Alan Wake 2, she’s just awesome generally.
She will definitely have some kind of presence!
I don’t
Jessie probably won't be there, but I'd be surprised if the FBC doesn't have some sort of presence considering the FBC has multiple years of advanced warning about the new Bright Falls AWE and we know that Ahti is on vacation in a neighboring town to Bright Falls.
@@samwalters6170 oh yeah I forgor we will probably meet him somewhere
She sucks
The Bright Falls web series is a big part of what made me fall in love with this world, it's so well done!
It really is!
I'm just learning this exists

Your channel is severely underrated. For a newer "fan" of Alan Wake, I needed something like this to really get me set for Alan Wake 2.
Same
Thank you so much!
Welcome to the party
Thanks for covering one of the most underrated games
Thank you so much!
I just finished Alan Wake remastered on PS5 (played the original upon release) to get set for Alan Wake 2 and then came directly here to watch your fantastic lore video!! Well done. This game is the pinnacle of story telling in a video game. So well done that it draws you right in just like some of King's best works!
Thank you for watching! I totally agree, top notch story.
I got a theory for you. What if Alan and Thomas are one in the same? Zane tried to write himself out of reality, but ended up making a reincarnation that was Alan. That's why they look the same, and that's why Zane knows all about Alan. The dark presence didn't wanna let Zane go so Alan was going to end up in bright falls regardless of Alice. Alice could even be another version of Barbara Jagger.
I'm not sure if I remember this right (it's been 10 years lol) I remember there being a theory that Thomas is Alan's father. I don't remember if that was ever disproven or not
I think they are the same, but I really can’t know for sure still!
That was what I thought when I first played it
Thomas Zane in Control DLC is more likely Mr Scratch
Zane created Wake, that’s why they look alike
This video is pure gold. I’m soo happy to see I’m not the only one loving Alan Wake and the Remedy universe this much! Thank you!
Thank you! You are not alone!
It is so sad that this hasn’t blown up. Man this is so well made. You deserve a million views at least.
Thank you! I’m trying to my best to get it out there!
I dont think i can do much to spread it as i dont have any meaningful social media presence but dude your content is quite good. Keep on doing your best and it will blow up as it is supposed to.
@@HiddenMachineGamingtruly great content, just randomly discovered it thank you. Not sure if the fact your videos are sometimes very long is something that the algorithm penalises you for. Just something I heard. Not complaining, as from a viewer standpoint it’s amazing to have these deep and long videos. But perhaps it’s reducing the exposure of your great content.
Fantastic video Matt! Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together, it couldn’t have been easy.
Many thanks! It was definitely a lot of work, but it was a lot of fun too.
Fantastic job on this lore explanation. We owe you our appreciation for your hard work in this video. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Ahhh mannnn, I am so hyped for Alan Wake 2
Me too!
Alan Wake 2 should be supplied with this video
Good job, Matt!
Thank you!
Omg Sam Lake's secret account
Getting ready to play part 2 and this was perfect as a recap!! Thank you so much!
Happy to help! Enjoy the game!
Absolutely love the Control-themed sfx and cinematography here! I've been binging these Alan Wake recap/explanation videos and your video is **the** best one I've seen. Looking forward to watching your Control video (or videos rather) up next.
Thank you so much!
Loved the original Alan Wake and have been playing through Alan Wake 2 but never played Control. I was going to skip it, but after listening to this, I'm sold. I'll be downloading it on my PS5 tonight.
Sweet!
Absolutely incredible video. I’m so beyond excited for Alan Wake 2, but haven’t played the first entry since it came out and just don’t have the time to play through it again before Friday. You are amazing.
So glad it helped! Thank you!
As someone that has played all Remedy games, including Alan Wake twice, this was so helpful and insightful.
Very happy to hear that!
🎉 hh vv blki 😊
Great job man this is amazing
Many thanks!
Awesome work man, I know this vid took a lot of dedication, much appreciated!
Thank you!
This was exceptionally well done! Searching for a Alan Wake recap brought me here, so hopefully others will find it as well, because you deserve ALL of the traffic! I'm excited to see your future video breaking down Alan Wake 2 (after I've played it, of course hah).
Thank you! I’m working on my Alan Wake 2 breakdown now, but it’s a super dense one, gonna be a while
Wonderful work, thanks Matt
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this! You explained it all in a very easy to digest way, and the hour and a half went by super quickly. I'll be subbing 😊
So glad you enjoyed it!
Phenomenal video, my dude. Appreciate your time and efforts put into this! Pumped for Alan Wake 2
Thank you!
This video was easily the best Alan Wake story explanation on TH-cam. Incredibly detailed and easy to understand. I hope you do one on Alan Wake 2 as well. Subscribed.
Many thanks! I am definitely going to do one on AW2, but I think I need to wait until the DLC episodes all drop to really get the full picture. That said, we'll have some more lore discussions up here in the meantime!
@@HiddenMachineGaming agreed, sounds good!
Excellent video mate, you deserve more subscribers!
Thank you! I’m trying!
Hi 👋🏾 new sub here! Love your videos they’ve helped tremendously with getting the little details of Remedy games and how they connect. I’ve recently been on a Remedy fix.
Awesome! Happy to help
Hat off to you for this incredible video, must have taken at least 100 hours to produce this with little return. I'm glad it's one of your most viewed videos, you definitely deserve much more viewers
Many thanks!
I was actually thinking on doing one of these too 😅 I guess I no longer have to haha
Amazing work!
Haha thank you! To be honest, I only started writing this after I was locked out of my house for a few hours and needed to occupy myself somehow.
That is top notch work right there. Great job, thank you!
Thank you!
Great great video, thanks for doing it :)
Amazing video man!
Many thanks!
This is some HEAVY work. All caught up now thanks to you.
Thank you!
Thanks for this excellent and comprehensive breakdown!!
Thank you for making this! Was a great catch up.
Happy to hear that!
The best and most entertaining summary video of this universe on youtube, thank you.
Thanks for the awesome recap!
Thank you for watching!
Very well researched and explained. Other videos either give an exact recitation of events as they occurred or their analysis of the deeper meanings of the game. Yours treads the line between the 2 really well, thank you for the work and I feel ready to dive into AW2.
Thank you! I appreciate that
This video is a really well explained summary. I watched a different summary video that was just as long as yours before watching this one, and left confused. This one explained everything so well. About to dive into AW2 now, so wish me luck in piecing the rest together on my own!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear that
Earned my sub thank you for the awesome video!
Thank you!
Great stuff bro!
Much appreciated!
Great video filling in a lot of the blanks and clarifying some of the more confusing concepts of the series. Well done my friend.
Many thanks!
that was a fantastic video, the best recap I've seen. Very well done.
I didn't realize how many things went over my head!
Thank you! A lot of the story isn’t really made apparent unless you really go digging for it in other places.
@@HiddenMachineGaming Yeah, you effectively used a lot of supporting material like the web series/comics (even the fucking behind the scenes!) for a very coherent timeline. I never even had to rewind at any point to make sense of anything (as i usually do with most recaps/explanaitons). very well put
Thank you so much for this, it's been a hot minute since I played the first game/consumed related content and this is just the refresher I needed.
So happy it helped!
You absolutely nailed this recap! I can’t recommend this video enough.
Thank you!
yoooo this video is awesome, you have a nice voice over voice! :)
Thank you so much!
Great video !
Thank you so much!
This is an absolutely fantastic video man, criminally underrated.
Thank you!
Brillant, brought some things that I had ether missed or ignored to light. Can,t wait for two. Great job. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
Outstanding work!
Thank you!
Thank you! This was very helpful. Lookin forward to start with AW2 tomorrow.
You'll love it!
Excellent video! Great summary and explanations of some forgotten points from my playthroughs. It’s been awhile since I played Alan Wake or Control. I have a feeling going back and replaying Control after AW2 will give both games even more context.
Thank you! I agree, every game kinda informs all of the other games in a way.
This was so well done! You earned a new sub!
Many thanks!
AWEsome video dude 😎 ice been a fan of alan wake since its release and this video was spot on, so hyped for AW2!
Thank you!
Thank you, I just started AW2 and this was a great intro.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video man! I love all these mysterious things about RCU.
Thank you, me too!
This is an excellent, EXCELLENT overview of the series! Thank you kind sir. Liked and subscribed 🙃
Thank you so much!
Thank you! I thoroughly loved Alan wake 1 and watched an in-depth catch-up without finding the time to get through it first before Alan Wake 2. Really well put together!
Thank you!
I just wanted to thank you for this ridiculously meticulous recap that I desperately needed before AW2. Got what I wanted and then some.
Sweet! Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video! Great content very well made.
Many thanks!
Great video 🙌🏼
Thank you!!
This video is so much fun. As someone whos first Remedy game was Control, its cool to see the terminology, concepts, and lore carrying over.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was awesome I really do so appreciate this🙏🏽🔥
I am so glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.
Amazing recap mate
Many thanks!
Brilliant video I've played and loved all the games involved and was looking for a recap before starting Alan wake 2 this was brilliantly done and also gave food for thought on a lot of the mistory involved thanks a lot😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice video ❤️ thank you so much. I love how remedy are connecting everything and am looking forward to aw2!
Thank you!
Just leaving this comment to thank the effort and the passion, great work!!!!
Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic, thank you very much!
You're very welcome!
Dude, that's tremendous amount of work you've put into this. Thank you very much! I did not understand plot of Alan Wake when I played it but I fell in love with world and lore of Control. Your video put everything into perspective so I will be ready for Alan Wake 2.
Awesome! It’s great to come into the games from different perspectives. You’ll really enjoy how AW2 and Control connect.
Thanks for this! Played Alan Wake years ago, and just finished Control: AWE - so ready to go into AW2 now
Awesome! Enjoy Alan Wake 2! Thanks for watching!
easily the best breakdown on alan wake ive seen so far !!!
So happy to hear that!
Really appreciate this deep dive man. I never played the original gae but enjoy watching play throughs of the later games so this helped get me caught up in a great way.
Glad it helped, thank you for watching!
So glad I stumbled onto this video before starting Alan Wake 2! This was a perfect recap from the first Alan Wake game. It’s been a couple years since I beat it. This video was perfectly narrated and broken down. Thumbs up!
Many thanks! Enjoy AW2!
@@HiddenMachineGaming Thank you. Looking really forward to it.
Wow! This is an excellent video! Great job with this. I was not aware of how deep this story goes with the web series and the book. I just thought that a lot of it was left up to interpretation and would be fleshed out more in later games.
Thank you for watching!
Phenomenal video! I can’t wait to see how the story of Alan Wake 2 continues a more deeply layered connected universe while giving us more mysteries to unravel
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Wow I thought I knew everything about the story but man you surprised me with this video. The number of details you presented were mind blowing.
Thank you so much and keep up the great work 🤘🏻
Thank you so much! To be honest, I left out a lot of details, there is always something new to learn about these stories!
@@HiddenMachineGamingThat's amazing. Can't wait for your content on Alan Wake 2. Cheers
I’m at the (first?) coffee break and I love this video so much! You’re doing a stunning job of representing the story of Alan Wake and the remedyverse. I can’t wait to finish the video tonight and to watch the playthrough of AW2! 🤩🤩
So glad you’re enjoying it!
Amazing video, thanks 🙏 so much
Glad you liked it!
only 19k?! damn you deserve more, great explanation ty.
Thank you!
Can just stop to appreciate the transition from 35:15 to 35:27? Damn, what a smooth transition lol
Haha glad someone caught that
Apologies. I had to ignore this for some time, as I wasn't expecting to pick up Alan Wake 2 anytime soon. Anyway I just picked it up, but I'm watching this before I play it. Great work (so far)!
Thank you! You are in for a great time with AW2!
49:04 this is a great and thorough video so no real complaints here just a smallll nitpick but Alan actually knew VERY well that the kidnapper had been spying him since the ferry trip hell it's basically the first thing that he says about him when he meets him face to face lol
Damn you got me there hahaha
Only 11 mins in and wow! Awesome work!
Thank you!
Awesome video! I havent played AW1 and I wish I had when it came out.. Now Im ready to play AW2 more than ever. Thank you
You’re welcome! Enjoy the game!
This is the most in depth video of the alan wake story broken down 🙏👌, thank you brother i will deff be recommending this video to people who wana play alan wake 2 with out playing the first game
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
man that was super interesting! i'm gonna go play all the remedy games i can get my hands on now i had no idea they were all connected like that, i only just got into alan wake after listening to herald of darkness lol
Awesome! I really glossed over a lot of stuff, you’ll have a great time digging deeper into it all!
man this was masterful!
Thank you!
Thank you for this video !
I wanted to get back into the first game but just didn't have the time
Time to start part 2 !
You’re welcome!
Thanks bro this is brilliant
Thank you!
Great job, Matt!!!
Thank you!
Great video! Subscribed!
Thank you!
Honestly this is one of if not the best "Full story & Extended lore" of anything I have ever seen. I was really excited to watch more games be spoke about in this way but unless I am mistaken this is your first one? hope you do more soon
Thank you! I’ve done in depth videos on Scorn and an older PC game called Obsidian. We also have an in-depth discussion panel series here called Yeah, I’ve Played.
That said, more vids like this are definitely in the works.
I don't expect it in AW2, but I would love to see who or what the "not mother" is or a more in-depth exploration or explanation of the events that took place in Ordinary and the connections to the dark place, there has to be a connection to the dark place and the dark cabin the not mother resides in.
P.S. I also wanted to note something that was a bit off, when Alan descended into the dark place and was fragmented, Mr. Scratch is a fragment of Alan, but he's created more from the collective belief of the human conscious due to the public slander and opinions of Alan Wake through the public perspective. One huge key factors for places of power is their connection to the collective human unconscious that more or less sets the boundaries objects of power tend to abide by, i.e. the clicker, the shoebox, even the Oh Deer Mug the FBC collected from Brightfalls
I missed this comment, but I agree, the not mother is so intriguing as a concept.
I appreciate your insights here!
This is so good, I love the Remedy works! Super excited for Alan Wake 2
Thank you!
From the format to the content, this is a 10 out of 10 video
Thank you!
Man I hope someday Sam Lake and Remedy will really recognize the importance of your work and of channel like Gaming University. Amazing. To be honest I never really found my way into the Alan Wake "thing", but after all these videos I am totally playing and looking forward to AW2.
💓 Thank you
Happy to say that Sam Lake regularly likes and sometimes shares our videos on Twitter! I love GU as well. Glad you’re on board!
@@HiddenMachineGaming Wow did not know that, thats amazing! (I dont use twitter)
Speaking about GU, maybe some crossover video together sometime in future regarding "hottest topics" 😋? 😎
Can't wait for Alan Wake 2, thanks for the great vid!
Thank you!
Mr. Hatch is in quantum break along with a chalk board you can find with Alan wake details, and a tv at the beginning of the game that shows Alan wake and sam lake
Commenting for the algorithm, you guys deserve way more subs!
Much appreciated!
One thing that really bothers me towards the end of the first game is that Zane introduces and seems to be okay with Mr Scratch taking over Alan's life. If Scratch is meant to be some dark denizen, why would light-possessed Zane be at all okay with that?
That’s a huge question for me as well, and the DLC episodes make Zane’s intentions even more ambiguous. He’s not necessarily who or what we think he is.
