Rob, when my RT195 had a standard clutch, it didn't take long to start slipping. It now has a clutch made from a Suzuki RM125, which only cost £100 in parts. It took a bit of work to make it fit a standard case, as the original RM clutch was 7 plate, so it had to be trimmed down to take 5 plates.
Another great video Rob and a good example of when an owner with no knowledge is far worse (and more expensive) than having a bit of knowledge - looking forward to the next episode😎
Had an engine rebuilt many years ago by local bike garage who talked the talk. Took around 6 months before i fitted it and found out that the engine was lethal. Long list of issues but main one was rear hub bearing was so loose it could be pulled by finger pressure alone and leaked oil all overthe brakes. No circlips in piston was also a eye opener.
I had the same with a guy from Wolfspeed, absolute screwed up my engine, I started it again myself, had the same with my wheel bearing leaking, sorted it, band now it's an RT195, Li150 gearbox, drive ratio 4:90, Avanti ST, and I'm still on it, best to learn and do it yourself.
I bought my LI a few years ago. On the day I bought it, I was chatting to the 'local guru' of their club, who was bragging about doing everything on it. I was having the engine upgraded anyway, so only rode it a couple of times. When my mate started stripping the engine, the mag housing was loose.
Welcome back, we missed you. An engine with unknown history is always going to have some issues but whoever built that shouldn’t be allowed to touch a spanner again. Not changing the layshaft is playing Russian roulette, it’s when it fails not if, so the owner needs to think what price he puts on his life. It’s been a hot summer here in Spain, we are having a ride out on Sunday with an early start to avoid the worst of the heat.
New bearings, seals, maybe rebuild the crank with new big end bearing and rod? Typing as I watch..... holy crap, using normal engine circlips for piston circlips?! Damage reminds me of when the big end bearing went in my TS1 230 years ago.
Just shows what a money pit lambrettas can be,you have to be fully committed financially to get involved. I've written off a couple of grand over last few years and mine hasn't been that much trouble all the best rob
I've now had three Mazzi bell cranks fail in Vespas in a similar manner to that one. The crank webs separated, then the big end bearing fails. In one instance, it destroyed the top end when the bearings turned into shrapnel. Mine were pretty highly tuned motors, but Mazzuchelli definitely need to have a word with their QA department. Maybe they're still adequate for stock or very mildly tuned builds, but otherwise I'm now a Hard Pass. If you run a Mazzi crank, either weld the pin or get ready for get ready for the pin to separate on you. And your three favorite Lammy channels are also favorites of mine. 😀
It's been too hot to ride out here in Los Angeles! Personally, I would prefer the rain. I'll be changing the plates and springs in my MB 6 plate this week. :)
Great video rob, always the case when opening up a motor someone else has built. Unless it’s been built by someone who can be vouched for it’s scary what we see!
Another great video! Shame about the motorcycle shop building it wrong though. I hear the Imola’s are a great ride when set up well with an expansion. 🥳
I read an article a long time ago about a guy that was running a Scott Squirrel and was getting accelerated engine wear using full synthetic oil. He tore the engine apart and there was zero oil film on the internals if he left the bike without being run even for short periods. He changed to mineral synthetic mix and the wear problems went away. What he described looks like what you are experiencing.
Fuc-in hell, cheper to buy a new kit Rob . Just had a 240 monza cylinder done re-lind and a repair to the bottom of the cylinder £252 from Langcourts!! postage and the work done, excellent work new kit £450?? poor chap, definetly needs to go back to the shop money back hopefully. Hope you are well, excellent vid cheers
Great vid there Rob. Can of worms springs to mind mate, good luck with that !!!. Scott is doing well on that Air Ride System he's doing, very interesting.👍👍
That's the worst of someone else's scooter problems. Can you just change this and do nothing else please. Then you find all the other issues and you have to tell them. Will they pay? Will you get something you're self for all the extra work? And you don't even know them .😒 Hope it goes well Rob .
Great channel Rob please keep it going! Rob please can you give reason's for an engine to run in reverse 😮. The timing set to 17° BTDC after 195 conversion BGM kit?
FYI -Stator is pronounced “staytor” (or “stayter” if you prefer) but definitely NOT “statter”. You sound like a mechanical bloke who’s messing with electrics🙂

Good stuff Rob. We’ve had a lovely summer here in Finland, the only bad weather I’ve had was going to Euro Lambretta in France. Keep up the good work.
You must be further north than me. Northern Norway has had a lovely summer 😎🌞

They actually get pretty hot. My casa case gets really hot

This has been running semi synth. It is dry because it is running on gearbox oil and very weak 🤣
@@kickbackgarage Um wow that will do it.
If that was "hard to start," sign me up! Always a pleasure...and I learn stuff. Hard to beat...
Would love a transcript of the phone call when you told him he now had a pile of junk 😅

i don't know why they use those shitty circlips as gudgeon pin clips
They dont!

The timing set to 17° BTDC after 195 conversion BGM kit?
Yes. You have not set the timing at 17 degrees! If it's too close to top dead centre the motor can run backwards. Check the Woodruff key too.

Jeg vil gjerne høre hvordan din norsk uttalelse er. Veldig fint at du tok deg tid til å kommentere konstruktive på en av mine videoer.
wow just shows you need to be a lambretta mechanic ,not a biker mechanic waste of a grand there at least
