Finding your first gold nugget - Part 9

  • Finally I am back gold detecting near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. WA prospecting is very different to what I’m used to in the Golden Triangle. Finding gold nuggets requires a lot of patience at this location, but the rewards can be high. My GPZ7000 is a great detector for finding gold nuggets in an area where the targets are often very deep.

    Good stuff Keving and well done. There's nothing wrong with looking after your vehicle!! Your voice was very low and hard to hear when you were talking to the camera. Cheers and thanks

      Sorry about the volume, I’m a better detectorist than movie maker. Problem is that different devices seem to sound different. I’ll get it right one day :)

      Multiply section 40’s can be issued for the same area, I know the other prospector, he’s a friend so I’m glad he got onto the gold.

    Thanks for making your great videos Kevin. Is that old goldrush workings or are those nuggets just naturally there?

    • @BKGoldDetecting
      @BKGoldDetecting  ปีที่แล้ว

      The nuggets in this area aren’t associated with a working. They are randomly spread over the area. Some big ones have been found round here bug often lonesome nuggets with nothing else around.

      The protective panels aren’t cheap, $1500 - $2000, they are made by rhinohide.

      They are made by Oliver and have a composite toe cap so no metal. I love the zip on the side for easy removal.

    I'm sure you've got it all worked out but I'm wondering what you do to stop yourself from getting lost. A GPS might get dropped and let you down so what are your tricks. Thanks.

      Sorry for the late reply, I use the GPS on my detector as my main navigation, but also carry a seperate small GPS in my backpack as a backup. Also my iPhone which has GPS aps that don’t require internet access.
      As a final backup a small compass and I always take note of the suns position in relation to my camp site.
      It’s good to know landmarks close by such as a fence line etc. let’s say there is a track or fence line that runs east west near your campsite. If you are detecting south of it you know if you head towards the midday position of the sun you will hit that track or fence and then you can follow it.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi BK
    I have not tried Deep Mode before on the GPZ, can your give any advice on settings or tips ?
    PS. I've watched all your vids, this series helped me out of a dry run. CHEERS

    • @BKGoldDetecting
      @BKGoldDetecting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, if you put the detector in “normal” mode instead of the default “difficult” it goes much deeper but will pick up a lot of ground noise and hot rocks. To reduce this you can select “extra deep” instead of “high yield”
      This will pick up very deep targets that would be missed in the default settings.
      I might make a video about this at some stage.

      I wish you both a patch, take care. CHEERS 16:50
