  • Do you have a leaking or cracked radiator? Well then it is probably time to switch it out with a new one. Any epoxy type glue for fixing leaks will only hold so long and the pressure of the radiator will blow that glue out. Replacing your radiator is not as hard as you think. You just need to remove a few things first to make it easier to work on.
    When you replace your radiator, you may want to replace a couple other parts as long as you have some removed. During this job, I also replaced the water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, and radiator hoses. I have other videos showing those replacements.
    Watch my video first to give you a good overview of how to replace your radiator and then you should be ready to do it yourself. Good Luck!

    Thank you. I made the mistake of purchasing one of the best. Its thicker than stock so my AC lines get in the way and Ive had to bend them slightly, they seem aluminum. Unless you plan to overheat your car often, go stock size as much as you can. Also, try reusing old clamps, for leak free, even if youve added new thicker hoses, use vaseline. My experience so far. 🙂

    Helpful video Thanks, Just did this on an 00 GT yesterday, (factory radiator developed a slow leak after 107k miles) The bottom radiator hose on motor side was a real pain to remove but other than that everything was straightforward, only difference I didn't remove the battery and just disconnected negative cable, also removed fan while radiator was still in the car and installed fan onto new radiator after radiator was installed, I'm not sure if this was any better or worse but I suspect the battery might of been an issue if I tried removing it all as 1 unit. (i had to tilt fan to one side while dropping it in to clear battery).

    Hey ryker. I noticed the front tag on the stang, was wondering if u are in South Carolina. That's where I'm at. But any ways I just got a 97 and I'm doing everything u have done to its even down to the light switch. My question is its been sitting for a year, it cranks and drives but it has half a tank of gas, is it ok to burn the gas out, or should I drop tank and get rid of old gas..

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jonathan johnson Yep I am in Greenville, South Carolina. Good luck with all the repairs. If it has been sitting, I would for sure change the fuel filter, but its up to you if you want to drain the tank. Or just remember to not run it low on gas if you think there is junk in the tank.

    I recently acquired a 2002 mustang v6 and I am fairly familiar with working on them because my previous was a 97, but I am interested in swapping a V8 radiator into the V-6 so it'll run cooler I have already swept the thermostat to 160° thermostat, I wanted to know what all you think I would need to swap them. I was looking at getting a three row radiator, dual fans, The GT reservoir, and the GT houses, do you think I will need anything else?

    I have a 1997 Ford Mustang V6, the bolts on the crankshaft pulley were sheared off and the belt came off so I took off the remaining bolt on the pulley and removed it so I can fit a drill in to get the bolts out. But there still isn't enough room so it looks like I will have to remove the radiator to have enough room to fit a drill in... Would all the steps be the same/similar for my car?

    • @TheRykerDane

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I remember the transmission lines being a pain to put back in. Make sure you don't damage the threads when putting in. You could try spraying some type of lube on them to see if you can get them started by hand and then tighten with wrench. Also make sure you open end wrench is the correct size so you don't strip the nut. Just keep working, I know you will get it!

  • @DS-home
    @DS-home 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the vid. My '96 is overheating. Do you have a systematic way to troubleshoot ? I'm suspecting the fan but want to be sure.

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check both hoses to make sure they are hot after running, then also squeeze for pressure. Take out your thermostat and test in boiling pot of water. then possibly check your fuse for the fan. You fan should be running after about 15-20 mins especially in the summer heat. So if you don't have a blockage and its not the thermostat, then it it could be the fan to replace.

No matter how hard I try to unscrew it, it won't budge. I have tried WD40 and another oil to help loosen it but noting is working. Does anyone have a tip on how to get this to loosen up? yes they stay on the line.

    • @lucidbarrier
      @lucidbarrier 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always use line wrenches on the transmission lines. They are also called flare nut wrenches. They keep from rounding the edges of the nut while you torque them to remove them. Use one on the radiator end of the fitting going clockwise and then use your flare nut wrench on the transmission line going counterclockwise to break it. Flare nut wrenches are good for fuel lines and any other hard lines that you don't want to round off.

    About how much did you spend on parts from fuel filter to radiator replacement?

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I just happened to get a discount on some parts from Advanced Auto. But..fuel filter $30, headlight knob $15, Water pump $40, Serpentine $35, thermostat $10, Spark Plug wires $65, spark plugs $40, radiator $100, hoses $50, fluid $15, cap $5, odometer gear $15. I think thats it. But I also got brake pads and rotors too, I haven't made the video yet. 4 Brakes- $85, 4 Rotors $100. So about 600-700 dollars you can tune up your car yourself where it might cost like 5k to have a auto mechanic at a shop do all this.

We have searched high and low for the hardware or even knew lines for a 1998 but have not been able to find the parts so the car has been sitting since October and we can't fix it. ANY suggestions or help on finding these parts or how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. If not I have a 1998 mustang that serves no purpose, except maybe parting it out. I'd rather fix it though.

      oh thats too bad, you can find the lines online at american muscle or cj pony parts. good luck

      I've actually tried to find them and I can't locate them for a 98 mustang. For some reason we can't even find the lines. If you do please let me know because I have a 98 mustang that I can't do anything with.

      Try mustang auto salvage. I looked at national parts depot for the mustang but the late model is still too "NEW" so they dont have parts for it. M.A.S is always parting out cars and they should be able to get cooler lines for a 98 Mustang. Give them a try.

      you can always use a aftermarket transmission cooler and attach the cut lines with transmission grade rubber hose and clamps you have ti make sure the ends where the line is cut is not sharp with a file and the fit lines to the cooler TH-cam transmission cooler

    I have a 99 mustang gt manual trans. and I bought a radiator and it has two openings for the trans coolant line but my car does not have any... what do i do??

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I am not sure I understand. Your car does not have trans cooler lines? or it does not have two of them? Maybe check your radiator to see if its the correct one.

    • @xXRecklessXx714
      @xXRecklessXx714 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheRykerDane Yea the radiator i took out did not have any trans cooler lines connected to it. Yea its the right one. I got it off auto zone .

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** There might be a "U" line that you can connect to each trans line hole so that there will not be a leak. I am not sure why you have a radiator with trans line holes and your car does not have the lines to plug into it with.

      YOU DONT DO ANYTHING.... You just install the Rad and fill it up. What do you think you need to do? The cooler inside the new rad will simply not be used...its still water tight. Just install it. I've turned some of these into Oil Coolers for my engine at times...its a heat exchanger...you can either use it or ignore it... Most parts places only stock the Auto trans style rad because it covers both styles of vehicles....Manual and Auto....So only need to stock one type of Rad. What am I missing here?

    • @TheRykerDane

      +Ruben Gonzales I don't think so. It is a 5.0 for the 97-98 mustang, and a 4.6 in the 99. It might not fit right. But its possible there is extra room. just have to try

      How much do you know about 2000 models? I tried to replace the radiatior in my V6, earlier this week, but couldn't get the top transmission line to come out. After trying to get it out for over an hour, now it won't go back in either. Do some models require a line disconnect tool?

    • @TheRykerDane

      Well it doesn't look identical since it is a V6, but pretty close.

    • @jorgecardenas3683
      @jorgecardenas3683 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that I read my question... I laugh. What I was trying to ask was if the steps on your videos would be similar if not the same for a V6 engine and if all parts would be found in the same general areas.

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh I see, yes for the radiator they should be almost the same. Cooler lines, upper and lower hose, Its possible your reservoir tank might look different. But otherwise the basics are the same. Hope you get it done!

    • @jorgecardenas3683
      @jorgecardenas3683 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome... thanks!!! Another questions... well more like a symptom. Mustang just stops or stalls out like in the event of overheating... I'm being told that it's because I run too close to empty and all the trash/impurities clog up my injectors and or fuel system.

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jorge Cardenas yes thats true, especially if you are always running low. Those older tanks can have a lot of junk in them if you have not replaced it or taken it off and cleaned it out. Plus it has to do with the gas these days. Its not as clean as we think. Try running some Seafoam through a couple tanks of gas.
