There is a great section of the river at Espada Park. Lots of room to cast and some real trophies. You can also find some pretty big carp in that part as well
Rios are so fun to catch. I haven’t been out too much this year because the places that I go are overfished due to Covid. Hope to get some trout this year though
Man they are a super black colored fish huh? Just like them big orange bellied sun fish we have here in oklahoma, they are super super fun to catch and fight on a 3wt. Awesome vid as always bro.
Yes John, they are Rio Cichlids look them up. Black with blue/white dots all over. Some people call them galaxy fish because of the beautiful colorations.
Great video! 👍 Love catching Rios on my 3wt. I caught a few nice bass practicing with new line in strong wind today with 4wt.🙂 Texas Parks & Wildlife is stocking Rainbows in 4 San Antonio locations. I think 2 (Miller’s Pond & Southside Lions Park) are being stocked December 2nd. The others at a later date. Google TPWD Trout Stocking for the entire States schedule. Have a good one! 🎣
I went fishing today. The river I fish was Stocked in the last few weeks so the river is full of little tiny trout. I caught 5 of those little trout but I did see someone catch what had to have been a 20 inch trout. It was the biggest trout I’ve ever seen and it is a monster for that river
Love the content I’ve tied a few of you’re flies but I haven’t got to try them out if you’re ever in North Carolina give me a call there are some big bows and browns
Nice thanks man! Yeah I love fishing trout. Used to live in Colorado where ive caught a handful of 25" and larger trout. Both brown and bows. They are a blast. But this here is fun also. I have some friends in the Carolinas that do really well for redfish also.
Risen makes a 3wt for $99, and even better price if you use my discount. My discount is “McFly” just type it in at checkout. The rod is called the genesis. It’s awesome! They also have a reel under $100 as well. Best thing is, it’s got a lifetime warranty, and even if you break it yourself they will work with you to get a replacement.
Hello, been watching your channel about two years. I would love to get into fly fishing here in Central Texas. My target species are crappie, and sunfish, so my question for you is what weight should I go with. Also, how do you determine the weight with the species of fish being caught?
I would say a 4wt fly rod would work for crappie and sunfish. Most of the flies are small enough to cast on that rod. If you plan on bass fishing also, then a 5 or 6wt might be better because the flies usually are larger and harder to cast on a 4wt.
Hey, my girlfriend and I are planning to head down to this park tomorrow in search of Tilapia. Do you have any recommendations on patterns that they might take?
Oh awesome! Yeah I wish I had a lot more suggestions but, I’ve only fished it twice. Both times I had luck with the bully bluegill fly. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask
About to get back into fly fishing so for trout and I know you make and sell flys do you have a link so I can order some bunyan bug stone flys in different sizes
I don’t sell like on a site, I send invoices when I’m done tying for people and they pay the invoice. I custom tie so, it would be hard to put every pattern in the world on a site ya know? If you have Instagram we can private chat there and talk about what you want tied and all? I sell fly boxes as well. I try to keep my prices as low as possible, usually about the same, maybe slightly more expensive than fly shops, but they are great quality so...
Looks like a fun spot to fish. I'm missing fishing for sunfish, I had a ton of luck with bluegills and pumpkinseeds last summer. Cheers
Hey how’s it going man? Long time since we have chatted. Yeah sunfish are fun. These rio’s are even more fun.
Glad to see you brought the net this time. Rios look like they are a lot of fun to catch. It's great you found a spot where they are plentiful.
Yeah it is a blast here! And yeah, bro silly me no net here. Lol!
I have walked to one of the lakes around my house, paused to think about what I would say in the intro, and realized I left the GoPro at home 😱
Lol sounds like me.
Those are way cool fish and they look like they pull on that 3wt. really strong. How fun! Thanks for the entertaining video.
Thanks man! How have you been?
@@McFlyAngler Really well Shawn and thanks for asking. Still playing with the house’s money! CT scan coming up soon-fingers crossed.
Oh man, I will pray Bob! I hope it’s a good scan and good results.
Grumpy Ol Man lol 😆 at 60 + years old,developed an allergy to rude & stupid people,awesome video,great time & great fish,tight lines & bent rods 🤟
Thanks, haha! Man, I feel you! It’s hard having an allergy to something so common in the world huh? Hahahah.

In this part of the river they are due to water conditions but in the cleaner systems they have beautiful blue spots
Yes John, they are Rio Cichlids look them up. Black with blue/white dots all over. Some people call them galaxy fish because of the beautiful colorations.
@@McFlyAngler i can sure see why. They are a pretty fish. Great video man.
Thanks

Cool thanks. Yeah I fished yesterday as well, super strong wind! I got 2 bass, not the best fishing. The cold front made it tough.
Didn’t know there was those fish there. Ya that park is bad with poop. Year round lol
It really is. Lol! Poop everywhere. I went again recently and caught some rios, the video will be our next week.

Nice! Was it the Guadalupe river?
@@McFlyAngler it was not.
Where were you fishing?
Willowemoc creek in New York
Ohhhh ok your in a different state. Lol! Don’t mind me, I thought you were here in Texas for some reason. Hahahah.

Mcfly I am new for fly fishing I was just wondering what would be a good budget fly rod in the 3 weight range

Were you using a Lano bug?
No, most of the time I nymphed... bully bluegills.

Just the ones I mentioned in the video
@@McFlyAngler Yep, much appreciated. I peeled through the comments here and saw some recommendations. Great vids man...keep them coming.
Oh awesome! Yeah I wish I had a lot more suggestions but, I’ve only fished it twice. Both times I had luck with the bully bluegill fly. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask
What nymph were you using?
Bully bluegill and at the end a guides choice hairs ear.

@@McFlyAngler I will try the Instagram thing
What size fly are you using
Oh man, I used a few different ones man.
@@McFlyAngler what’s the biggest you throw in the 3wt
Biggest I’ve thrown is a size 2 popper. Did pretty well on that even though it’s a wind resistant fly.
are those native?
yes. Well to Texas they are, im not sure they are native in that river system.
Yes, they are one of the few only US native cichlids, if I'm not mistaken. And the Texas Cichlid is found throughout the San Antonio River.
WtF kind of fish is that? Looks like a sewer fish to me! LOL... Ewww!
I am not eating it... lol
