    I love catching panfish on a fly. I've caught bluegill, crappie, and even some little bass on fly. The only fly outfit I have together right now is a cheap Pfleuger 5-6wt kit I got from Dick's years ago, but I was recently gifted a nice, lightly used Wright & McGill 3wt flyrod. I'm getting a new reel, line, etc for it for Christmas. Can't WAIT til the spring! I also hope to target some yellow/white perch on a fly next year. Best thing about this kind of fishing is you NEVER know what you may hook. The pond I fish on my lunch break from work has gills, crappie, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and carp. Only thing that gets pretty gif in this pond is the carp, but it keeps me in fly casting practice.

    Nice relaxing video, except for the Titanic flashback at 11:11.

    I wish I could see the fly patterns you've used!

    Hookups getting free? check the condition of your hook, efficiency goes down after forceps or pliers are used for release at times.

    Very good movie ! what line you using for fiberglass rod?

    • @OutdoorRushes

      Rio Creek Line. It’s very soft and supple and works great on small rods.

    did you use an indicator, or just feel it?

    • @OutdoorRushes
      @OutdoorRushes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The bluegill were hitting very aggressively this day so I didn't have a need for an indicator. Most days I will I use a larger dry fly as an indicator for gills as it may double your catching chances. Thank you for watching!

    I’ve been debating a 2 Weight. Is it hard to cast small poppers? If it’s windy does it make it useless because the line is so light?

      I got a 3wt and I’m able to launch poppers big enough for small bass. I love it. Considered a 2wt, might still

    I’ve been debating a 2 Weight Rod for Bluegill. What’s the biggest fly you’d say your rod/line can handle? If it’s windy is it difficult to cast?

    • @OutdoorRushes
      @OutdoorRushes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest I would throw is a size 10 or so popper or hopper. And yes wind does effect the casting ability quite a bit.

    Are you using tungsten bead heads on the simi seals?

    • @OutdoorRushes
      @OutdoorRushes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane McCullen we do not. I think the slower sink rate gets more strikes in most situations.

    When you miss 3 fish in a row on the set Always check the fly to see if the point is dull or perhaps broken off...

      most likely its too long of a fly and gills are grabbing the back of the fly..

    • @MarkEWallace
      @MarkEWallace 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LouisianaBlackwaterFlyFishing Possible, but a few of those were clearly on long enough that they had done more than just grab the back of the fly.
