*Something went wrong when I tried to publish this video earlier. Sorry about that. Here is my second attempt.* 🤷♂ Now, before I get to many complaints about not showing the removal and install let me explain. My mouth hurts, my tongue hurts and it is very difficult to talk at this moment. I wanted to show you but try and keep it shorter so this is what you got. Until I heal up and learn how to speak again you'll have to bear with me in the videos. Cheers, Eric O.
Anyone who has had the same thing done understands..... Ive had really bad dental work, couldn't talk right, it's embarasssing. Hopefully everyone will bear with you brother!!!!!! On a side note, I laugh WITH you...... as you slightly sound like the grinch 😛
You don't have to keep apologizing for your speech. We can understand you just fine! Anyone who would complain about that is just an A-Hole! Keep doing what you do!
I wore an appliance like that when I was getting my teeth straightened as a teen. It takes a bit, but you will get used to it and learn to talk again. A year later, when my appliance was no longer necessary, it took a while to learn to talk again. But, in my case, the effort was worth it and my teeth looked so much better after 5 years of braces and 1.5 years of a semi-permanent retainer at the back of my lower incisors. Hang in there.
I’ve watched Eric work when he wasn’t feeling good, in pain, or with his mouth like this, this just shows his true dedication to his work and customers
You are a dedicated mechanic that is trustworthy and gives customers a fair shake, so we don't care about a temporary speech issue. Keep on doing what you do. You are the man!
My GF lost her teeth because of cancer and talked different with dentures. F people that talk bad on your speach, you still have one of the best auto mechanic channels on TH-cam.
Don't care about your speech, don't apologize for taking care of yourself! Thanks for all the content you're putting out, it's a pleasure to see a honest mechanics work. Appreciate the filming including the little details for us the viewers!
Eric O. doing his thing while supposedly not speaking well is still better than most TH-camrs who speak perfectly, without the occasional muddled word. I had no issues understanding what was said or done and that's what keeps me coming back and picking up little tidbits of info I can use on the Buick, Ford or Kia vehicles that currently occupy my garage. Keep up the great work, Mr and Mrs O.
Watching a master like Dr. O work on stuff like this and continue with his personality in the face of mouth pain is inspirational! Seriously folks, there's nothing like mouth pain - it's next to the brain so there's no lag in getting pain messages sent and received. I also have to say if I were one of Eric's kids, I would love it if I screwed up and got a "talking-to" by Eric... Kinda comical until dental work is done! :) Keep swinging the wrenches Eric, we love you!
Just going to throw this out their, but even Pregnant women agreed that kidney stones were the most painful with child birth being a distance second. So as far as pain goes, stones are the top form of pain.
@@davidmiller9485 I had an appendix rupture. That was far worse than the four kidney stones I've passed, although the stones were their own special kind of hell, too. Think of one of your organs being filled up like a water balloon with fluid until it explodes. That's a ruptured appendix.

I have been watching Eric for years now and I have never been disappointed in any aspect of his content. I look forward to every video that he produces and watch everyone. Cheers to you sir and all the best in your recovery.
Eric, no worries about how you sound. My late father was an orthodontist for 42 years. I've run an orthodontic laboratory for 32 years so I've seen quite a bit. Most patients adapt quickly to appliances and in no time talk almost completely normal.
As someone that had to have a lot of dental done throughout most of my childhood, I feel for you, Eric. I had to wear one of those expanders in the roof of my mouth to force the bones back into place when I was in 3rd grade in 1984. It hurt to wear and I had to learn how to talk with it. Any words with E sounds were a pain. I also had to wear braces for almost 5 years as a teenager. It'll all be worth it in the end though. 💯
I had an arch expander when in high school prior to getting braces and wouldn't you know it, that semester I had speech class. My buddies made fun but I had no time to pay attention to them because of the discomfort. I know what you're going through. But before you know it , it's over. I hadn't thought about it until seeing you here. Believe me, when you get that thing out of your mouth, you'll be talking normal before an hour goes by. Your bite will feel like rubber for a day. What a relief.
Eric, we all appreciate what you and your family do for all of us! I always learn something from your videos. thank you so very much! Hope you feel better soon!
Nothing personal Mr. O but I don't think people watch the videos for your perfect, sultry voice. 🤣🤣 The content and knowledge should speak for itself! Thanks for trucking along and providing awesome videos for the people even when it's hard. 😀
Eric thanks for powering through everything that happens in your life and still providing us with Great content. Hope to adjust quickly and comfortably. I've had my upper pallete cut back and had to learn how to drink again. Best of luck and health
I used to have an expander and braces when I was a kid. I used to hide the tightening tool so my dad didn’t adjust me at night. I thought I was in the clear until he could get another one from the dentist. He unraveled a paper clip and adjusted it anyway. I was so sad 😂😂 Thanks for giving us videos even when you’re not at your best. We appreciate it, hope ya feel better soon.
I’ve always been amazed with GM’s axle assemblies. They are just pot metal castings and generally hold up to all the axial torque and off roading. I’m just old school when we had the Dana axles!

As a fellow 43 year old male with braces, I feel ya man. Protip, I bought a set of small files just for use in knocking the sharp edge off the ends of the wire in the braces. Been a lifesaver.

I have had a palate expander before, they are super weird to get used to. Especially when eating, I've had food get caught between the roof of my mouth and the expander. Makes things interesting, for sure! Best of luck to you with that, I hope it is successful in doing what your dental professional wants it to do. Eric, just when I think you've successfully fixed every automotive issue out there you come up with a new one and fix it with no problems. You're the mechanic we all wish we had access to. Another great video. And as far as your speech, you could develop a stutter, a lisp, and a room clearing gas issue and you wouldn't lose a subscriber ( although Mrs. O may have something to say about the last one!) Thanks for the video, Eric O. Can see you were hurting, but still put a video out for us. Lots of respect, always look forward to the new videos. Thanks
Used the same seal deforming trick to get a grip on a stubborn 30+ yr old front main seal. Had to knock in the outer ring of the seal after pulling apart the entire face and I was so nervous I'd slip and knick the crank I shielded it with cut plastic bottle and we both survived
Yeah, brake clean sound. You don't really sound bad or non normal except to those of us that watch you regularly. On a good note I understand the mouth is one of the faster healing areas. Hope you heal fast. Thanks for sharing even when you hurt.
Just wow! Wonderful work and dedication to not only work through the challenge of pain and slightly slurred speech, but put out, edit, and post a video. Your work, your work ethic is an honest testament to who you and your family are. Thank you for the video and the work it took to put out. I pray that you adjust quickly to the slight alteration in speech, I also 9ray that the discomfort is minimal, as well as a complete, thorough, yet rapid and swift healing for you. Much love n prayers, from a couple if hours northeast if you.🙏💜

It must be frustrating for you right now, but hang in there...your fans still love seeing your videos, and we are completely empathetic human beings, too. Thank you for sharing so many instructive videos over the years and please keep them coming!!
Obviously, you weren't holding your mouth right your first upload attempt. Glad you succeeded. Not that I understood anything you said but the fact that Mrs. O is so smart, sharp and attractive is a pretty good indication you're smart. And/or lucky. Merry 2023!
Dude! We're with you even through your "adjustment" LOL. Hang in there. Just don't try to say "Suffering Succotash!" or "Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore". 10 times. Take care of yourself man!
I was in a bad motorcycle accident that cracked 1 neck vertebrae and 1 in my back, cracked 2 ribs, my arm, right foot, cracked upper jaw (which shattered all my teeth) and %30 road rash. With the shattered teeth, the dentist used UV cured glue to glue them back and keep them from just falling apart. Needless to say, I had to have them all removed. To learn to talk again after getting dentures sucked. So I completely understand what your going through.
I design auto transmission for Ford. Seals , bearings & bushings are an important part of the design. Their placement and running surface are critical. This is the first mechanic video I have seen where a punch kit was used for install of seal assembly. Great job. I usually cringe watching others use hammer and screw driver for install. Which can damage the outer races and possibly affect the performance of the part.
Eric s real speech is with his hands, Amazing mechanic, BTW , im retired mechanic of over 35 years. If i were closer, he would be working on all of my fleet
Sorry Eric, that was one of the best narrated SMA videos in years! While I feel for your dental displeasure, many of us were super-entertained by your fortitude in making a vid! Life is tough...I laugh at myself constantly! Well done!
Great vid, Eric! I like the vids where you tear into a diff or tranny. Don't sweat the speech. No biggie. Reminds me of a mixture of Wilford Brimley & Sean Connery 😁
It just makes you sound like a true southerner, minus the tobacco chew and moonshine. Keep bringing that quality content and I hope that heals quickly.👍🏾
I was a little surprised by the design, where an outside (presumably sealed) bearing is separated from the oil by a seal. And the lip of the blue seal seemed oddly placed by the factory given where the source of oil pressure is. Maybe there's more to the design than we saw?
I wish I had a dollar for every time I'm watching your videos and blurt out "Yes Sir" right after you check something. Or maybe now "Yeth Thir" 🤣 You are the best. Thanks for all you do.
Hey Eric. Nice job on the seal job! Don’t worry about the ignorant people that bash you on your speech impediment. It’s just a temporary thing. I know you say that you have a thick skin towards certain things but It does hit home some days. You are human after all and you do have feelings from what we see in your videos. Keep up the excellent work and Mrs. O is such a sweetheart backing you like any good woman should. Take care and all the best for 23!
Good job! I am an old Pontiac mechanic from the 1960s, but I could still smell that gear oil clear through your video. Been watching ALL of your videos for several years and enjoyed every one of them. A vast majority of them are very educational, especially videos on electronic issues. Keep up the good work, and I wish you a quick recovery from your health issue.
You sound fine, Eric. Try this: "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain." Just kidding. I've been there. It gets better. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Great job! Eric O and Mrs O. Love watching you. No worries with your talking, hey we all have our things we have to deal with. I just appreciate you taking your time to continue teaching and showing us the work you do! God Bless you all! Gwendolyn Rendleman Orlando, FL USAF
Great video! I was doing the break-in Diff fluid change on my Camaro ZL1. I accidently spilled one of the new bottles by bumping it with my shoulder...never again, I couldn't get the smell out of my driveway for about 2 months. I wanted to throw up every time I went outside of my house and smelled diff fluid. And to think, this is NEW diff fluid that smelled that bad....I couldn't imagine what burnt diff fluid smells like.
My step-daughter had to get one of those palate expander thingies put in for several months last year. (Or maybe it was 2021? Time's been funky since Covid lockdowns.) Anyway, it took her about 2 weeks to speak relatively normally again, but she never did quite get back to 100% normal until she had it removed. But you're doing well enough for us to understand. 🙂 Takes a couple of weeks for the pain to lessen, too. Hopefully yours won't have to be in there too long.
Eric, you are a trooper! I hope your mouth heals quickly, i know what its like to have hardware in your mouth, i had the whole setup when i was in my 30's and it was tough but you muddle through. Thanks for the video, it was really interesting to see the inside of that case, those are the things my dad never showed me before he passed away, so thank you. I may not be a mechanic but i learn alot about how things work and try to put it all together. Love from AZ ❤
I know the pain of braces and expanders. During my 40's, I had braces with an expander in the roof of my mouth. I spoke a lisp and couldn't talk correctly for 4 years, plus the pain was considerable. It was worth the pain in the long run but it was no picnic. I feel for you. Oh and this was my second time with braces. I wore them for 3 years when I was a child....
Absolutely EXCELLENT video! Disregard anyone that whines and cries about any speech problems. As a person who has had a hearing disability since I was a very, very young lad - it took YEARS for me to learn how to pronounce certain consonants correctly - particularly 'S,' 'Z,' and 'T.' Consequently, I spoke with a lisp (and still do sometimes) for many years. You won't get an inkling of judgement from me regarding any mouth procedures that leave your speech a bit "wanky-fied." LOL! We're all human and we all have our flaws - some more evident than others.
*Something went wrong when I tried to publish this video earlier. Sorry about that. Here is my second attempt.* 🤷♂

Thanks for the video, Eric O. Can see you were hurting, but still put a video out for us. Lots of respect, always look forward to the new videos. Thanks
Dude, the Brakleen reveal gets me every time! Always gives me a chuckle. Thanks for both the education and the entertainment.
Much love n prayers, from a couple if hours northeast if you.🙏💜
I had one of those palate expanders 42 years ago, left a permanent mark on my tongue, hated that "motherlover" thing!
Good luck with it Mr. O!
You're awesome Eric O...a role model on so many levels!
You don't even have to talk and I'd still watch your videos man.
Good on you for getting the grill in for a tune up, you sound fine
I was in a bad motorcycle accident that cracked 1 neck vertebrae and 1 in my back, cracked 2 ribs, my arm, right foot, cracked upper jaw (which shattered all my teeth) and %30 road rash.
With the shattered teeth, the dentist used UV cured glue to glue them back and keep them from just falling apart. Needless to say, I had to have them all removed. To learn to talk again after getting dentures sucked. So I completely understand what your going through.
The work that you do is absolutely stellar so I don’t ever think you’ll have to rely on becoming a ventriloquist.
Don’t worry about it. We love to watch the content how ever you deliver it 😁
Eric s real speech is with his hands, Amazing mechanic, BTW , im retired mechanic of over 35 years. If i were closer, he would be working on all of my fleet
Nice to tag along on a new repair for you. Glad it went well and appreciate you bringing us along.
Thanks as always, Eric, and please don't worry about the spacer. We always appreciate your efforts!!
That accent with the pronouncing of your word now will merit the channel to be an honorary "southern" main suto channel 😀
Re upload? Or is it my lucky day to get SMA 2x in a day? Either way it's a win. Have a good weekend all!
“I see said the blind man” who picked up his hammer and saw. Love ur channel u make it easy to learn.
Appreciate you putting the effort in to keep producing great content
Sorry Eric, that was one of the best narrated SMA videos in years! While I feel for your dental displeasure, many of us were super-entertained by your fortitude in making a vid! Life is tough...I laugh at myself constantly! Well done!
Don’t worry about the dental, just keep making great videos. Love every one.
Great vid, Eric! I like the vids where you tear into a diff or tranny. Don't sweat the speech. No biggie. Reminds me of a mixture of Wilford Brimley & Sean Connery 😁
still absolutely brilliant even on the second go
It just makes you sound like a true southerner, minus the tobacco chew and moonshine.
Thanks again, Eric. Even though you didn't particularly want to put this video out, ya' did it anyway. For us.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I'm watching your videos and blurt out "Yes Sir" right after you check something. Or maybe now "Yeth Thir" 🤣 You are the best. Thanks for all you do.
Appreciate how you pay attention to how things come apart, then go together, making sure everything looks right.
LOL @ the brake clean moment! HAHAH!!
Don't worry about the speech issues Mr. O, just keep doing what you're doing. We appreciate ya!

I love going on the road tests when you're finished with the repairs
Brake clean sound LOL. It never gets old!
