Just saw yesterday folks hunting armored catfish in rivers in Texas. Apparently, only the biggest ones have enough meat to be worth dressing so it may not be up their alley, but it is the rare invasive species that is a legitimate nuisance from an economic and infrastructure point of view so maybe they’d be up for it from that angle.
I just love how when you get up close to a turkey you can really see all those colors come out of the feathers. It's almost like a oil slick on water and changes from different angles.
I couldn’t agree more. I was born and raised big island, and there’s something special about the hunt with dogs. The old episode with Steven hunting dogs in Hawaii was legendary cuz he was out of his element.
Nice job on the peacock. Plenty of them here in New Zealand. Considered a pest. Hunt as many as you want when you want where you want. My lab is good at flushing and retrieving them. Good meat also!
You guys are killing me. Still 20 days to wait. Just got my wife to agree to a dawn bird watching **cough cough scout mission cough cough** to our local BLM nature preserve. I can't wait to hear the goobles and pin down the current roost locations of some beard draggers who got the best of me last year.
we had a local game farm/zoo near Central WI when i was growing up. they had Peacocks on the grounds and would get out and wander frequently. sometimes youd see the male peacock with the group of turkeys in the spring. I saw a Tom display his fan to the ladies then right after the Male peacock, said basically "oh yeah.... watch this" and then displayed his fan. It was quite funny to see. Was a totally unnatural thing to see in Wisconsin.
They were a traditional meal at feasts in Europe before turkeys were brought over from the Americas. Very lean so you need to stuff or cover them with fatty meat to drake it good from what I have read.
Growing up in Kona - I’ve never set up for turkey since they are everywhere- usually while hunting for pigs and feral sheep or goats - if a turkey was close by I’d take one or 2 usually made sausages or stew
Id eat a peafowl! Man expensive though! Like couple hundred a bird. And we did try to hatch them. Only had 2 ever hatch and both died in a week. Humidity has to be perfect in the incubator I believe. Not sure exactly but a guess. Not as easy as chickens guineas turkeys quail or any other thing we tried in incubator. lol Also I thought you were going to hunt jungle fowl. As in the origins of modern chickens. Great show! Loved it! :D
@@donkeysaurusrex7881 Cant say disappointed but do know where I could be. More like where is jungle fowl? Oh must be calling peacock jungle fowl? Mislead but still cool!
Brah no one liked go peacock hunt with me this last season haha such a sick bird to chase. I throughly Turkey season was cancelled this year tho? Maybe just Oahu or you get private
Odds are that peacock is older than many of the turkeys most hunters get. To get a full tail, peacocks are usually 3 yrs old. Most toms are 2 years old when harvested. I raised peafowl for years. There really isn't much meat on them.
Love the videos ... one thing with this one... two really bad hats. what the crap guys? come on you need better hats. Second, the cam guy was a one trick pony. That focus on the front and then move the focus to the back shot, probably went to that 50 times in this video alone. could have shot this way better with an iphone. great information and fun to watch. never thought to eat a peacock (fowl), but now im ready to go.
An old landlord of mine had peacocks on the property. I swear they were the dumbest birds I have ever met, and their calls sounded like a screaming child. I can totally understand why that women strangled one
Meat Eater is already in the Late Adam Sandler phase of its career progression. Where all the locations for new media are set with the intention of vacationing with their friends and having the company pay for it. While it must be very nice for the employees and company, for the average hunter, these constant private land and guided hunts are not entertaining, or why I found Meat Eater enjoyable in the first place. I'm happy for Steve and the boys but it's just falling short lately.
I always found their focus on public land hunting weird. I have never known anyone who did that. I like the more out of the way stuff at least partly because I think whitetail deer are overdone on hunting shows. If you’re going to do normal stuff do squirrels and rabbits once in a while.
Man you know the state of hunting is going in the shitter when meat eater goes from all public land diy completely doable by the average guy hunts to almost entirely private land privately owned game ranches where only the rich and elite can do in the last 2 years
we have a peocock problem here in the upper florida keys, they are considered invasive so you can hunt them... come on down and hunt them with me in a urban island setting lol
Cal in the field is a top MeatEater series and always entertaining and informative. Would love to see some fresh water underwater spearing.

Cal and Clay, great reps of the Outdoor experience

😂😂😂 the shell casing bouncing off the pavement got me
Cal giving off jurassic park vibes when he's taking about clever birds 😂
I’m from Hawaii guys live in Oregon now love seeing your videos of hunting and gathering need more hogs and dogs n of course more Ulua fishing 💪🏽

Wow! Gives new meaning to, " I got close to a Jake today. " Special moment!
Awesome video! Would love to see Steve come back and you guys go after peacock / peafowl, pigs, axis deer and sheep again!
It’s too bad I can’t like this video multiple times, excellent!
Cal gives MeatEater credibility. 5 stars.
So glad they tried a peacock! I've seen a few feral ones where I live and have wondered
I stay big island. Been here 14 years. Turkeys every day. Just go up mauka anywhere is kona. Great video as always guys.
Great video Cal and Meateater crew you all do a great job every single video, not sure how you always top the last video but you always do!
Cal is the best. Amazing hunt!
Hope you save some of those feathers for fly tying Cal. Cool to see you bag one of those peacocks!
Danny is awesome !!
Love all your episodes in Hawaii 😍👍
“Look how many eyeballs I got!” Freaking great line lol
Just found Cal in the field the other night and can't get enough.
Peacock eggs are a hearty meal in of itself. Cool hunt and several more things to go hunt on the Hawaiian islands.
A peacock omelette sounds pretty good
love seeing Cal. Steve and Cal were my favourite duo in most episodes, not that steve ever had any chumps around. Just cant complain about more Cal!

We have some feral peacocks getting around my area in australia.

I literally just bought my crossbow spring turkey tag yesterday... it must be fate
fun fact: when the Spanish got to the new world they called turkes "pavos" which is also spanish for peacock!
New drinking game. Take a shot every time Cal says "Right" when explaining something...youll be drunk pretty early, right?
Peacock on the menu now 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Favorite episode hands down. Depicts what this show and Steve is all about. Without him even being there
We got peacocks in florida. They are fair game on private and public. They are considered feral.
How do they taste is the real question.

How come they charge the decoy but not each other when they approach in groups like they do some times…?

He’s long been a recluse. The guy in the videos is just an actor the real Steve Rinella hired to play himself.

The first peacock i have ever seen killed thanks to Cal, great video
:D :D Should have sit up and yelled BOOO! :D
If ever there was a full body mount to make, peacock would be on the top of the list
It would take up more space than a full body moose.
You must have some tiny moose there donkeysuarurex
@@robertbenitz1815 Have you see a peacock’s tail?
Lived in Waikoloa, we had turkeys living in the area use to see them getting attacked by Mongoose funniest dam thing i ever saw
I saw two lobsters fight in the tank at a restaurant today, but mongoose vs Turkey sounds even better.
Fashion pheasants
Just wondering what is growing on the trees looks like a coffee Bean maybe
yes coffee bean for sure

SHOCKINGLY, Cal missed the message as usual. 🙃👍💯💯💯
That looks like some good meat. It looks better than turkey and chicken
An actual jungle fowl is the chicken, in the orient. But still a good show.
That got me too. I thought it was going to be a jungle fowl episode. Not fowl in the jungle. Still cool

If you live in Hawaii it is more practical than whitetail, elk, black bear, moose, or anything else on the mainland.
