Picked up the 351p earlier this year mostly for GBA games, I won't consider upgrading until flawless N64/Dreamcast/PSP emulation becomes standard in sub 100$ handhelds like these.
I bought a 351M specifically for 16 bit games. I didn’t do my research properly and didn’t know the screen wasn’t the full res for those games until it was too late. This fixes that and more perfect for 16-bit and arcade. So I’ll probably pick it up.
RG-350M is the best, ok you cant't run Dreamcast, N64 or PSP, but this emulators doesn't run well on RG-351 devices. In fact RG-350M has HDMI Output and a 4:3 screen and runs perfect up to PS1 games. I hope that helps you to decide
i play nes, snes, genesis, gba, gbc, ds, psp, n64, and ps1 games on my phone with a ps4 controller and they all play perfectly. there are also some games for dreamcast and gamecube that play surpringly well on my phone. i've been getting into fire emblem for gamecube and it runs quite well, just some occasional stuttering but perfectly playable.

I just picked up my Anbernic RG351V Wood Grain Edition handheld yesterday and I'm very satisfied with it! It's very sleek, unique and classy. It also has that retro vintage look, reminds me of the old woodgrain TVs, Atari 2600s and record players back in the day. I like horizontal form factor handhelds a lot, but with vertical handhelds you can view the screen much better since the controls are under the screen.
Might just be me but the vertical handhelds feel like too much of a rip off of the gameboy form factor. Anyone who isn't into the retro handheld world will look at that and think it's some cheap Chinese knock off. The horizontal units feel like they are more their own thing and worth the price. Beware, Anbernic will also push the RG552 afterwards in the near future, which should also be a point not to buy this handheld at full price here. But hey, I think the color is very nice, which is the only advantage xP
This is all new to me as of yesterday, so I guess you could say it's perfect for me--since I'm late to the party as well! Found out about Playdate, saw a comment about the V90, and found Retro Dodo through Google. I am waiting on mine to arrive from Anbernic. I can't wait! I am a sucker for aesthetically pleasing, high quality devices. I feel like these portable emulators have become a dime a dozen, but this one seems like it has garnered a large user base, and will continue to be relevant for quite some time.
Anbernic really needs to start adding different shoulder buttons to their devices, the design needs to be double stacked like the Switch. It’s nearly perfect!
I caved. I got a 351v a month ago and I love it. But I couldn't wait until the 552 ( I think that's their next number) but I had to try this form factor. I can't wait until mine gets here in the mail. Hopefully arkOS will be available when I finally get it
As someone with nothing, and a birthday coming up, I'm split between this and the Miyoo mini V2. Both seem like great options, but I'm leaning towards the MP Because it seems more comfortable to hold. Also, having volume buttons instead of a wheel is a big sell.
c'mon anbernic... An all-metal GBA SP design! THAT is the design you need to incentives a RK3326 purchase in 2021. Honestly I would be okay with d-pad-only since you don't really need an analogue stick for 2D games and PS1. N64? well just remap the analogue stick for the d-pad (it's not perfect but it will work okay in a lot of games) who's with me? ;)
I don't know how popular that form factor really is, I hear a lot of praise for the gba style console and personally I had, and loved both (GBA / SP) back in the day but I prefered the GBA, although I used the SP more since it was smaller.
@@cr0wland I am the other way around. even though the SP was smaller I always felt like it was more comfortable than the GBA. Sure, the landscape mode made the older device bigger however, it had a smaller d-pad much more unforgiving actuation of the L and R triggers resulting in a weird finger position for larger hands. The SP, although smaller solved a lot of comfort issues inmho and the clamshell design protected the screen, which was a big plus! There's nothing hindering anbernic from making a larger SP-style console as well 😉
@@PixelShade yeah, actually you reminded me of a few other things I didnt like about them both, but those really shouldnt be an issue in a modern clone anyway. The screen protection factor was definetly a big deal.
@@RetroDodo of course. Would love to see a video about the coming handhelds that you think will finally be able to emulate Game Cube and Dreamcast properly.
Great video here. You always do very well thought out reviews of these products and I'm not at all fussed about this one because it's just so outdated. I've had the GPD XD+ for well over a year and it runs N64 and Dreamcast very well in addition to lots of other stuff. This isn't new and it's so far beyond anything the RK3326 can handle. Why are so many manufacturers in love with that ancient chipset? When are we going to see GameCube and PS2 emulation on a device like this? Believe me, I'd love to upgrade but everything else available just seems like such a step back, even in 2021. Great work, I really enjoy your videos and thanks for all you do.
Odin Will do that, and it has a reasonable price, compared to the Anbernic ones (you get a lot more power, for a little more money). But there is no good emulator for PS2 on Android. The best one is questionable (stolen code etc).
@@LisaSamaritan From what I've seen, the Odin is pretty much on par with what I already have so I'm taking a wait and see approach with it. Eventually, they'll have solid android emulators for all sixth gen consoles and that will be awesome in a handheld. For now, I have a portable Dreamcast and that's awesome.

Good video Dodo! I have some questions, can you help me please? I want to buy a retro game console for playing GBA + N64 (Pokémon Stadium, Majora's Mask) + probably something of PSP like Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. Do you recommend me going for the RG351MP or should I wait for Retroid Pocket 3? When will Retroid Pocket 3 come out more less? Thanks a lot!
Hello! Thanks for the comment, we recommend waiting out for a few months, the RP3 and RG552 are coming out towards end of year, so that should be able to play N64 + PSP flawlessly. :)
@@capitan_anime I've seen some footage of Stadium and Majora's Mask. Gameplay isn't perfect due to performance. I'm in the same boat as you, and I think it's probably worth waiting for the next Retroid Pocket and RG552.
Is the current hardware running at its limit? Is there the possibility of some update that may increase the performance for N64 and Dreamcast or that's just not the purpose of the console?
I upgraded from the old plastic RG350 to the RG350MP, I got mine yesterday in the mail. I don't see Diablo for the RG351MP yet, so I'll be keeping the RG350 for a bit yet. I need to find out how I get that for it still.
Honestly, I still am super happy with my RK2020, so for me to upgrade, I need something that plays PS2 and Gamecube or something, so here's hoping the next generation can do that. That said though, I do kinda wish I'd been able to get this instead of my RK, just because it does look so good.
Hey Man.. Big fan since the days of you reviewing the rg350p. I actually started with that one and then bumped up to the 351v. Every video you ever put out has been amazing man. Quick question. So I got my 351v loaded my latest arkos release and my 512gb roms card. About an hour ago My wife ordered me the 351mp(coming tomorrow..mint green..best wife ever) and I wanted to ask…can I just pop in my two sd cards from my 351v into the mp and start gaming ? It’s the same system and chip set so it should theoretically work right?
My RG351P is only a few months old. Skipping everything until we get more powerful chipsets in these things. Seems the A20 will be good. Still waiting for something with a horizontal form factor and dual analogs though.
@@RetroDodo ahhh i see then, thanks for the response! so its a bit pricier and premium feeling, ill stick with my 351v, keep up the great work you do! i enjoy watching each vid you post :D
This Ambernic RG351MP came out to late. It's more for someone collecting the Ambernic line now... but if you haven't own one or a later one then yes get it. But my RG350M is fine for now... I'm just going to wait...
Why did the link to buy in the bio change from Ali express to droix? And it’s cheaper on the anbernic website so where should I be ordering it from? I live in America.
Gotta say, I still might go for this. My Retroid Pocket 2 has been nothing but a massive headache. So here's a question that I shouldn't even have to ASK, but I do. Can you remap controls, and add in a fast forward button?
I got the RG351P for my birthday. It's the most perfect device for me since it's purple and I grew up with my GBA (which wasn't purple, sadly) so I don't need this, but. This blue colour is just so awesome. Still won't get it, but I love it.
Yeah.... I'm not really into this model, I own the two previous models RG350M and RG351M and all I'm seeing here is incremental updates at prices not worth paying for dated technology. We need a boost with more power, perhaps a RG352DM (Deluxe Metal). Something worth paying for. Good option for those who haven't brought the previous versions. (Update!) Looks like an Android version is in the works that also does PSP very well. RG552 worth looking up.
Hi Retro dodo I am new to handheld gaming and I was looking at buying a rg351m this week but after watching this video I’m in two minds what one would you recommend for someone that doesn’t know a lot about computers and firmware and just wants to pick up and play all the old school games he used to play growing up
would have been nice if they included a HDMI out and a second SD card slot.... time for the RG352 with hopefully an ability to play PS2, Game Cube Dreamcast N64 and all the features of the RG350P to hit the market?? =D nice little addition from ANBERNIC but time to up their game. great review as always.
It's a shame. This is hands down my favorite form factor size/aesthetic/pocketablity besides a SP shell. It looks amazing, just wish it would be able to play GC/PSP/PS2/DS and older flawlessly. May just get the RP2+ until they make one that can play all of that in that size.
Basically looks like they went back to the OG RG350 screen. Completely different shape from the 351p and 351m you can tell he pointed it out at the start of the video where it went back to the 4 by 3 screen like the original 350 was
Personally if you’ve never owned an RG 350 device this will be the best thing to get but if you already own the RG 351M there’s no point in getting it because in my honest opinion they’re basically are almost the same thing well a lot of these handhelds are because they use the same chip over and over again
Should I buy this or does the community think there is an even better device right around the corner? Brandon did mention that it was late to the party.
Juan Agron I I would say wait on it there’s gonna be other retro handles out that’s going to be cheaper than us and they’re all going to use the same processor chip so I really doesn’t matter

Thanks for the review on that Brandon. I think it's a pass for me at this point but it does look good. For now sticking with my original 351P and Retroid Pocket 2. Looking forward to the next gen coming up!
I sold my 351P and bought 351MP, better screen ratio, resolution and more vivid colors, for me it is worth the upgrade because I care about these details and I have no intention to buy any 16:9 handheld because my Poco X3 Pro can handle PSP/DC/GC very well, I just need a Gamesir X2. I really like the reviews from you and Retro Game Corps, you got me info this retro handheld world.
This is just way too late in the game. If this came out long with the "V" I think many would of picked it up. Hopefully they release the RG522 soon. Plus 150 is too much.
$150 for new 2DS xl/new 3ds xl is a good deal. NDS/3DS/SNES/GBA/Genesis/CPS1/CPS1/Neo Geo all playable natively on New 2DS/n3ds. I hope $150 portable device will be good for PS1, PSP, Saturn, Dreamcast at full speed.
I'm interested in getting my first handheld emulation machine. Dunno if they have a nickname or not but I've been doing emulators on my old laptop and even a little on my phone and I just really want a decent handheld. Is this a good one to start with? I don't have any emulation handhelds and I'm thinking of picking up an RG351V. If you were me, would you do it or would you wait for something more powerful and at a similar price to release in the near future? If the latter, what would you be expecting to come out later? Thanks, dude.

I'm so stuck deciding between the and the rgb10 max. I'm worried about the build quality of the rgb10 max but I like the idea of the bigger screen. Any advice on choosing between the two?

N64? well just remap the analogue stick for the d-pad (it's not perfect but it will work okay in a lot of games) who's with me? ;)
That would be cool!
I like the clamshell design but I like more the grip of the DS Phat.
That blue case is dreamy.
What is that Mario ballon floating around 1:28?
Love the idea of having a handheld that is old TV aspect ratio that and retro achievements might force me to buy one.
The real question is, are there any games that an even fully utilize the duel joysticks?
Medal of Honor and Ape Escape
If I didn’t already have the M, I’d be all over this one for sure! That blue is awesome.
The blue is CRISPY!
it looks nice except all that writing on the back
I'll wait for the next chipset thanks 😊 351m is working for me at the moment
Are games preloaded on this console?
Any news on a newer version of this?
What are the new ones coming out that later this year? You mention it towards the end of the video?
Another great review
Thanks again Mickey!
@@RetroDodo of course. Would love to see a video about the coming handhelds that you think will finally be able to emulate Game Cube and Dreamcast properly.
So if you only have had a pocket go this is a good get?
The RG351M has a 3:2 display, not 16:9, thank God haha
This will be my first retro device. I just hope I can co figure it to run everything smoothly
2022 will be the year of "upgrades" to affordable handhelds. :) Thanks for watching and posting a lovely comment Daniel!
@@RetroDodo You're welcome and I really can't wait. I'm sure you'll be the first to know.
Hey Brandon hope everything worked out with watch mojo when I seen it I had to message you. Thank you for everything you do for me with retro I won't get anything unless you say it's good. You rock champ
TH-cam did nothing to help. 😩
@@RetroDodo wait what that was like a dodo greatest hits what if you did it to them and they said something wouldn't you be Monatized
@@RetroDodo can us fans write to them about it this sucks I been I fan of the show from you doing reviews in your living room this is wrong man it's what others do when this happens
@@RetroDodo thanks! And if I only want GBA + Pokémon Stadium and Majora's Mask? The RG351MP is enough or still better to wait?
@@capitan_anime I've seen some footage of Stadium and Majora's Mask. Gameplay isn't perfect due to performance. I'm in the same boat as you, and I think it's probably worth waiting for the next Retroid Pocket and RG552.
@@SmashingProdigy thanks so much! 🙏🏼
I need to find out how I get that for it still.
good that i waited so long :3 ... THIS will now be my 1st retro handheld device
You're going to love it! Respect for waiting so long!
@@RetroDodo haha ... not really intended... but i'm slooow with decisions 🤣
Honestly, I still am super happy with my RK2020, so for me to upgrade, I need something that plays PS2 and Gamecube or something, so here's hoping the next generation can do that. That said though, I do kinda wish I'd been able to get this instead of my RK, just because it does look so good.
Thanks for watching!
What does she look like?
is the games collection the same as on the Rg351v
Link isn't working to pick this up..... I push to put it in the cart and then it says cart is empty so idk.
My RG351P is only a few months old. Skipping everything until we get more powerful chipsets in these things. Seems the A20 will be good. Still waiting for something with a horizontal form factor and dual analogs though.
Another great vid! But In terms of specs, does the 351v has anything less or worse then the MP?
The V actually has slightly more battery, he MP has battery build quality and battery comfort, but you pay a premium for it. :)
@@RetroDodo ahhh i see then, thanks for the response! so its a bit pricier and premium feeling, ill stick with my 351v, keep up the great work you do!
i enjoy watching each vid you post :D
What colorway are those '97s ?
Do you have a game list?
This Ambernic RG351MP came out to late. It's more for someone collecting the Ambernic line now... but if you haven't own one or a later one then yes get it. But my RG350M is fine for now... I'm just going to wait...
Good idea!
only makes sense if you dont already have a 351 device already imo.
Agreed!
Yes and yes
Didn't fancy jumping inside Sonics big ring?
What kind of battery does it use? It says 3500mah 3.8V, but what is the model of the battery. Do they sell spare ones?
I got the RG351P for my birthday. It's the most perfect device for me since it's purple and I grew up with my GBA (which wasn't purple, sadly) so I don't need this, but. This blue colour is just so awesome. Still won't get it, but I love it.
On the Anbernic website the have a 16G and a 80G model. What’s the difference?
How many games does it come with?
Can you use Netplay on a machine of this caliber? It looks incredible, but I’ve been looking for a retro handheld I can do that on!
What's the biggest size sdcard it can read for games?
(Update!)
Looks like an Android version is in the works that also does PSP very well. RG552 worth looking up.
I've read that the dpad is a bit wobbly, and allows you to accidentally press 3 directions at ones. Have you noticed this?
Finally, something I can give to my child.
Hi Retro dodo I am new to handheld gaming and I was looking at buying a rg351m this week but after watching this video I’m in two minds what one would you recommend for someone that doesn’t know a lot about computers and firmware and just wants to pick up and play all the old school games he used to play growing up
how the battery life?
Does this have Bluetooth? I haven't used wired earbuds in quite some time.
would have been nice if they included a HDMI out and a second SD card slot....
time for the RG352 with hopefully an ability to play PS2, Game Cube Dreamcast N64 and all the features of the RG350P to hit the market?? =D
nice little addition from ANBERNIC but time to up their game.
great review as always.
Man I'd love to get a handheld like this but so expensive to import into Australia and that's only after you figure out what one you should buy!!!
Australia is full of blokes that prefer men.
Hello friend, is it heavy? compared to psp and psvita for example, what would be its weight?
How does it run MvC2?
@@realjravage What's the battery like on these?
@@aaron1182 at least for 4 to 5 hours of battery life it will get hot sense its a aluminum shell finish
@@realjravage thanks man, so it would be perfect for short bursts of gaming and not having to worry about charging it all the time. I'm going to buy one on payday.
Would u recommend this for a first purchase into the handheld emulator? Or something else? Or wait? Thanks!
Awesome, thanks for watching Cayo!
This thing requires some know-how and setup, but the build is exquisite
where can i buy that keyboard?
It's called The Durgod Fusion
How does this compare to the gpd xd plus
This is just way too late in the game. If this came out long with the "V" I think many would of picked it up. Hopefully they release the RG522 soon. Plus 150 is too much.
$150 for new 2DS xl/new 3ds xl is a good deal. NDS/3DS/SNES/GBA/Genesis/CPS1/CPS1/Neo Geo all playable natively on New 2DS/n3ds. I hope $150 portable device will be good for PS1, PSP, Saturn, Dreamcast at full speed.
@@main_tak_becus6689 is the 3ds the best portable emulator?
I'm interested in getting my first handheld emulation machine. Dunno if they have a nickname or not but I've been doing emulators on my old laptop and even a little on my phone and I just really want a decent handheld. Is this a good one to start with? It seems so based on what's said but some people seem a little less convinced. I'm mainly wanting it for GBA, SNES, and PS1 games.
I got one from Amazon and it had no roms. I have to go a build my own catalog I guess. It’s my first time. Super excited and nervous.
I don't have any emulation handhelds and I'm thinking of picking up an RG351V. If you were me, would you do it or would you wait for something more powerful and at a similar price to release in the near future? If the latter, what would you be expecting to come out later? Thanks, dude.
We advise you to wait 3 months :) The Powkiddy X18S just launched you may want to look at that!
@@RetroDodo Thanks! What's in 3 months exactly? :o
Does the RG351P come with the same screen?
No. P has 320x480 resolution, the MP has 480x640 (the same screen as the V).
What's the new best handheld that won't cost an arm and a leg
What should i buy smartphones or nintendo or this?
Wish there was a plastic version of this with the 4x3 screen… was about to buy the 351p then came across this device & then after this video I don’t know if I should buy any of them and just wait for something new 🤦🏻♂️ so much information!
Hi there, i need your help. I've played on a RG350 for many months but now i want n Upgrade. I love the V-Formfactor so my question is: is there a big difference between the rg351mp and the rg351v? I think they will both emulate the same or am I wrong?
Thanks 4 your help, happy halloween and big greetz from germany!
Chris
The price is kinda steep for this old processor. Got a 350 and a 351P. Gonna wait for something more powerful.
Good choice.
Can these link together to play multiplayer on like Mariokart?
If you are done reviewing it can I borrow it so I can do some testing myself 😀?
😅
I'm so stuck deciding between the and the rgb10 max. I'm worried about the build quality of the rgb10 max but I like the idea of the bigger screen. Any advice on choosing between the two?
It's a decent upgrade from the RG351M but I would have preferred seeing a metal version in the same style as the RGB10 from Powkiddy. I really can't wait for Hardkernel to release an upgrade to the RK3326.
