I’d say it’s also important to mention to wipe excess stain off wood and not let it dry. You’ll end up with a sticky residue. Also sanding wood will help wood absorb the stain. Great looking project!!
Contact paper is a self-adhesive semi-permanent wallpaper. Instead of pasting to the wall like you would regular wallpaper, a contact paper essentially, is an easy stick and peel solution making it friendly for renters to design their home to how they want without making any permanent design changes to the rented property. As for the slats, I would assume that Ida managed to get written consent from her homeowner that it would be okay to nail slats to the wall, I also noticed that Ida used minimal contact from the nails making cleanup easier on her homeowner should she decide to move onto another property in the future. It's always important to get written consent when you're putting holes in the wall, there's every chance you may shoot through a hollow wall into some plumbing or gas pipes which would be an expensive cleanup for the homeowner which is usually the main reason why people suggest not nailing things into the wall. Not to mention if the damage is renters fault, the homeowner is obliged to sue you for property damage. You may be lucky to have a generous homeowner who understands accidents happen and they'll let it slide on the promise that you'll ask for consent prior making any future changes. I hope this helped. 💖
Why wouldnt you stain or paint the wood before putting it up? It would make things much easier and give the wood time to dry so it doesnt stink up the house
Love the matte black contact paper idea...black is a fussy color to paint. I had a little trouble hearing your voice because the music is so much louder
@@IdaAlexis It's more that the mic volume is too low. I just happened to watch the video at night and didn't want to wake everyone up. Then the next day realized that a lot of DIY channnels run their music high
I just want to ask why you didn’t remove the outlet covers altogether and save them to replace when you move out. You could have covered the holes with the paper.
Thank you🙏🏼 and no, not at all. I used pin nails instead of traditional nails. They are sooooo tiny you can barely see hole. One coat of paint and your good when removing
Thank you!
Question? You mentioned yoi were renting? Doesn't the nail gun leave holes?
Time to update my setup now! Love it! x
Thank you!! Good luck with your project 🙌

Yes!! This is so true
I feel so empowered by your video! I’m gonna try this myself!
YESS🙌🏼 you can do it! Let me know how your project comes out
I love your DIY content❤ i just moved into a new apartment and want to try this
Thank you so much! Congrats on your new home. More DIYs coming soon ❤️
Question: How is the contact paper and nails not going to ruin the walls? It’s beautiful though..

Great job!!
Thank you!
I love bold black!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
well done. looks like I have a project for the weekend. :)
Thank you! Good luck with your project
Well done. You have a nice sense of style.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💓
Has it held up over time, just nailing into the drywall?
Hi! It was up for about two years, but I removed it a few weeks ago. 10 out of 10
Nice work but I would not have the patience. You really did a great job.
Thank you so much ❤️
Looks so good
Thank you!
Txs for the video. Was it easy to get Home Depot to cut the plywood to size?
Hey! Home Depot wouldn’t do so many small cuts so I had a carpenter cut for me
Why wouldnt you stain or paint the wood before putting it up? It would make things much easier and give the wood time to dry so it doesnt stink up the house
That’s true!! That option wasn’t available to me otherwise for sure
Looks amazing ❤
Thank you🙏🏼💙

Hi! Thank you so much & Will try and lower it! Thanks for the feedback

What's the name and size of this wood I'd like to try it please
So you had HD rip the 3/4" plywood for you? And, they wrapped it in plastic for you too?
Hey! No, Home Depot wouldn’t make that many small cuts. I had them cut and wrapped at workshop
@@IdaAlexis I didn't think those 4x8s would fit in your sports car ;)
Beautiful
Thank you💙💙💙
ZEN, nice work!
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Where did you get the black matte contact paper from?
Absolutely beautiful❤
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💙
very very nice Job. your carpentry work is amazing !
Thank you!
Love This !! Im going to try this
Thank you so much🙏🏼💙 let me know how your project comes out!
How do you take it off when it’s done v
It would be really cool if you added some LED lighting in between some of the empty spaces between the slats!
Ooooh! That’s a good idea 🔥🔥🔥🔥
they do make black outlet covers, for future reference
That’s true. The purpose here was to avoiding cutting the wood for a better, uninterrupted design
In this case, the contact paper probably looks better. The sheen and texture match the wall and the recepticles don't have to be changed.
I just want to ask why you didn’t remove the outlet covers altogether and save them to replace when you move out. You could have covered the holes with the paper.
Hi! Thats an option as well, I just didn’t want to leave the outlets completely open and exposed. It’s not noticeable at all
Thanks. Yur awesome
I’m going to do this in a place I’m renting. How would you get them off the walls? Just pull them off?
I love it too. I think landlord would prefer it stay - really adds to apt .
Want to do this for my dining area. Just a small section. Do you remember the square footage of your wall?
Hey love! So sorry for the late reply. This accent wall is 6ft Wide & 10ft Height (60 sqft)
Silly question, but will the nails anchor properly in a brick/ concrete wall?
Hey! Every question is valid! lol
No, when it comes to brick/concrete walls you’ll need to use specific material. It’s doable just more effort
No
how the hell is this "renter friendly", not even close
hold up, did home depot cut down plywood into your slats in shop??
Hey love! No, Home Depot can only cut down to a certain size and they do charge per cut. I had a friend cut for me
Looks good but you really should have made your cuts in order to make your outlets usable.
Thank you! I don’t need the outlets
Why you left all the plugs covered ???😮😮😮😮
Hi! So, technically you’re supposed to cut around the plugs, but I didn’t need them and like how it looks better without holes
One of the prettiest black ladies I ever seen. It made the video even more entertaining.
Wait, what? You just covered over live outlets with felt?
No, there’s no felt. Just the wood slat
Can you see the nail in de wood?
Hey! No, I used a pin nailer and pin nails so it’s very tiny
That looks dope, you just put a shit ton of holes in the wall though.
Thank you🙏🏼 and no, not at all. I used pin nails instead of traditional nails. They are sooooo tiny you can barely see hole. One coat of paint and your good when removing
Will the nails leave noticeable holes in the wall?
Hey! Not at all. I used a Brad nailer so the nails are super super tiny and will be easy to remove
Put a sheet of 1/4" plywood first
Are you Habesha?
Yes❤️
Surprised no one said it already but…. She bad asf, no disrespect lol
lol thank you 🙏🏼💙
How can people live with such a half arsed job. Cut around the outlets
😂😂 life is great and the wall looks great, so no thanks
Nice... but the nail gun takes it out of the "renter friendly" category
Hi! It’s a pin nailer so literally the tiniest little holes. Quick paint coat will cover easily
Hahaha. I would of. Helped u do the cutting. Lol
your so beautiful
Thank you 🙏🏼 💙
Your my dream girl
Gorgeous.. both the wall n yourself
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💙
