    Dear all!! - You may be interested to know that I have now developed and released the worlds most comprehensive FREE computer benchmarking test for Autodesk Inventor with a global online leaderboard. See the announcement video here th-cam.com/video/Xck3lvuMRjM/w-d-xo.html and check out the leaderboard here invmark.cadac.com/#/
    It's not really my job or responsibility to clarify this, and I don't owe Nvidia anything or any favours, but for clarity... this news doesn't mean that 'old' or previously sold Quadros are now obsolete or rendered useless. Nvidia will still support their previously sold Quadro products, they will still produce drivers for them, and software vendors like Autodesk will still support previous GPUs with the Quadro name for many many years to come. This is simply a branding name decision, a new Quadro was due now, if this was called a Quadro or not called a Quadro it makes no difference to your old Quadro card that you bought earlier this year or last year, or the year before etc.

      @@jaswanthkumar4450 Sure, but read the comments, some people just don't understand what any of this means even when it's explained as clearly as it gets, they only hear "Quadro retired" then look see they have a Quadro and panic that what they have is now going to stop working. It sounds ridiculous but a lot of people who are end users of these products just aren't savvy with how all this works.

    I'm sure somebody at Nvidia had a "good" reason for this change, but axing a name as prolific as Quadro off your branding is monumentally stupid. Apparently, they decided it wasn't worth asking their target customer base for input prior to plowing ahead.

    What a poor move - I could understand if there was a new groundbreaking feature that made old Quadros look bad like how Intel added i9 to the core series. Quadro is such a well-known brand and so visible I can easily tell someone what to easily look for in the name rather than just a letter. Saying a Quadro will not benefit Inventor anymore than a Geforce except for VRAM etc is far easier than saying the NVIDIA Card with an A before the big number will not benefit Inventor anymore than Geforce except for VRAM etc... Unlearning Quadro is not going to be fun.

    Frell me dead! Or whow! Thank you for making this video. I almost spent money on buying water-blocks for the NVIDIA Quadro 8000 and, thanks to you, I now know not to do that. I agree Steve Ritter, axing the name "Quadro" without any apparent rhyme or reason for it just doesn't seem to make any sense, especially for someone like me, who is building a high-end workstation computer for the very first time. I have a B.S. from a college and I majored in architecture, but at the particular time I went to college, they resisted CAD and actually spent the most time putting focus on the models we built. I chose to finally build one myself (because there is no place around town that deals in anything high-end). Now, I've got to go and watch the video on these new cards. ;-{ Thanks for catching it!

      @@Neil3D "Frell me dead!" is a phrase from a heavily irreverent sci-fi TV show called "Farscape" (1999-2004). One of the terms they "made" to substitute for swear words. So, "frell" was used instead of "f!%#". "Mivonks" was used as a substitute for "testicles" -"Now, don't get your mivonks in a twizzy." So on. I'm looking to use the GPU's with MAYA, a 3D Rendering Program of Autodesk. As I said, I'm building the computer myself b/c in this area I've already gotten screwed over on one build I ordered an upgrade on and it took the guy three weeks to give me a computer with exactly the same specs, just a slight increase in RAM and CPU.

      But the problem I have now is I don't know what to buy for the GPU! I planned on buying 2 GPU- Quadro 8000. I'm buying now all the parts I need to put the computer together (radiator just came today), already had the chassis, fans and controls should be coming on the 18th. Got the new mouse yesterday. Then one right after the other should come. Intel Gen Xeon Platinum (or something similar to that) for a CPU, and on and on it goes...This is for my business! Then I am putting it together under the supervision of a computer engineering professor at the University in our town. I also have the PrimochillVue liquid coming. I did major in Architecture, so it's going to look excellent!

      @Neil3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're using GPU based raytracing in UE4 then adding another GPU should help yes just for the rendering part, but I'd do a lot of research on that before doing it. You need to make sure what you're doing 100% definitely is bound to the GPU for starters, then you need to make sure you have enough room in your PC case for a second GPU, does your motherboard even support SLI as not all of them do, is your power supply rated highly enough for 2x 2080Tis, and after going through all that you're max going to get 2-8fps based on your 1-4fps numbers there... is it even worth it for that. Are their optimisations you can make to the project to speed that up rather than just throwing another GPU at it.

    😆 "Human Malware Plague" 🤣🤦 I find that funnier than I probably should.
    I don't care if the Quadro name is gone, but the 48Gb GDDR6 cards better not go away, I always hated that they wouldn't let you overclock the Quadro cards (should have selectable power profiles for like enterprise or datacenters or gaming or enthusiast or something)...not sure why "SLI" is dead but I think the RTX move is probably aimed at my generation probably cuz those high-end cards largely only benefit from some more "oomph" frm the memory and firmware drivers that unlocks whatever settings that the RTX drivers wouldn't.
    I wonder if it's for software development streamline, make one software/driver that works with all of them rather than two or four different tiers, just hardware recognition of what card is installed and run/download/install whatever's required.
    I think they all the same shit. There's no reason why Quadro cards wouldn't be great for gaming (apart from the lower clockspeed and lack of overclocking ability). I think more people are beginning to understand that whether a card has 8 GB of onboard memory or 48 Gb...for all intents and purposes....a GPU is a GPU (assuming of course all things are relative and all either do or do not have tensor cores or the same architecture and the only difference is memory, power consumption, and muscle*).
    I don't mind the Quadro name is gone, but good on you for informing people. The nomenclature change I think is probably for software development streamlining, that's my best guess. But with such an established "Quadro" brand, I don't understand why they didn't just keep it. Whatever, I think it's easier to make one driver/firmware that turns on all cards and just have GeForce Experience and like GeForce Experience "Professional/Enterprise" for engineering offices that doesn't target games at engineering offices hahaha and just have that system run driver delivery. It's all the same stuff for the most part.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It ain't going to make drivers much simpler for the consumer for a long time though unless they've come up with a genius way to combat it, because now you've millions of people looking for actual Quadro drivers for Quadro products because they still exist, and now you've got millions of people looking for the new-used-to-be-Quadro drivers with no name, which use the same driver package, no idea how they plan on doing that!

    • @kevin_delaney
      @kevin_delaney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TFI Well, if "legacy" or previous product support is the primary focus, I wouldn't alter the driver nomenclature for cards that are actually labelled "Quadro" and would develop Quadro drivers for those cards until end of life. If I were in charge, this would make it easier and less stressful for products already in the field as the company shifts towards a new direction. The goal, however, is to (for lack of a better term) "dripfeed" the enterprise Quadro clients the future and current nomenclature direction so that they understand nothing old is changing, but here on out, it's new. It's less stressful if the old stuff is as irrelevant as possible to the new direction.
      As far as the "new genius way" is concerned, you can go about it in a variety of ways, "automation" being the primary focus, especially when it comes to enterprise solutions.
      The difference between a driver, software, and firmware, if we talk about their "soul," they are the same - a single or a collection of computer programs assigned with some task to do on the machine. But it’s the work that defines the roots of those categories in which we put them.
      In other words, the fundamental difference between firmware, driver, and software is their design purpose. Firmware is a program that gives life to the device hardware. A driver is a middle man between the OS and the hardware components. And software (GeForce Experience) makes the use of the hardware in the best possible ways and has the potential to update the other two (if they are built to leverage it). The Firmware is designed to control the hardware of a device. It is present on a non-volatile memory chip and rarely requires an update. In the case of a personal computer, we call it the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).
      A driver, much like the driver of a car, its task is to drive the hardware it’s designed for, i.e., act as the mediator between the hardware and the operating system. Think of the firmware as the drivers ability and skill to drive, not the actual training/certifications required for let's say lorry or tractor trailer driving.
      Firmware and software development is what is largely going to be the focus in this regard (if I had to make an educated guess) because the firmware just has to allow you to use the device, for example allow you to use the GPU display ports in a new system build without the most optimized driver for the OS or the intended purpose of the GPU.
      Nvidia has made great strides in this regard and I imagine they will largely focus on automated driver delivery so that the job of "selecting the driver" in the first place becomes extraneous, irrelevant. What I would do is focus more on hardware recognition and automated driver delivery and improve support for Linux based operating systems so that the user just hits "Update" and that's it. Their Jetson Developer kits and increased Linux support is proof of this, but they are unfortunately unnecessarily proprietary because they don't want to give any market share to AMD or anyone else.
      I suspect we'll see more of this proof in 2021, if it had to guess.
      Microsoft, I believe, is headed toward the Linux kernel.
      [Microsoft last week announced a preview of the new Edge for Linux would be available to Edge Insider testers in October. The Linux version of Edge is intended for IT pros and developers to test web sites.
      "Microsoft developers are now landing features in the Linux kernel to improve WSL. And that points in a fascinating technical direction," writes Raymond.]
      If that is true, than Nvidia is forced to write legitimate Nvidia Drivers which makes their development easier as well because Unix and Linux systems, although not exactly the same, are far more similar to Windows's shitty unstable kernel and Linux's just unbelievable superior kernel. The scalability with Linux is far easier, in my personal opinion.

      @Tegridy Farms Lmfao dude I love the name 🤣
      That truly doesn't surprise me at all that workstations are becoming more RTX based, I would probably stop at the RTX Titan if it were my money unless I needed the massive ram and power (like more cuda cores and tensor cores) for Machine Learning or Deep Neural Network simulation/training. I think that's the only real benefit.
      VRAM does, however, speed up simulation rendering significantly, at least from what I've noticed with things like complex Toolpath generation inside Fusion 360 or Inventor HSM/CAM. But that's only going like 2 or 4 Gb to like 8 or 12Gb, I imagined a relatively linear curve though plateauing a bit after 24Gb, but I have not tested it yet. Memory has its uses, for sure, but without comparable clock speeds and core count linear scaling, it's all just marketing. I know games can't leverage that yet, but VRAM is definitely useful for things like VR and whatnot, but I'm thinking ahead more so than anything else. Nvidia is nothing if not good at marketing 😆 at least I think they are, not perfect, but respectable.

    • @Neil3D

      They're completely different, you can't compare them and put one as being better. 3080 is what you'd get if you're wanting to play games and use CAD programs that support GeForce, the RTX5000 is something you'd get if you need GPU power for hardware accelerated pro apps and need lots of VRAM... but don't particularly care about games at all. Very different use cases.

    I think it's a good move. From what I have understood, what nvidia is simply doing is that it's simply rebranding the quadro cards but maintaining their performance abilities. I support the move because its stressful for entry level users who do not have much knowledge concerning graphics cards when choosing a graphics card. I was once stressed when I wanted to buy a new pc that would work well with both lumion and revit for my architectural works. Lumion recommended the rtx cards while revit recommended the quadro cards. It was important that i acquired a pc with graphics card that offered the best performance for the both softwares. With this move, i feel the debate can be over once and for all.
