I've owned a number of bikes and I have it narrowed down to this one. I just sold my 06' HD RK because I find myself only riding the NC700x. I've done several long distance trips with the NC and it has never disappointed. The storage, handling, and low end torque are qualities that I found to be important in long distance adventure rides. I did switch out the oem seat. it was not comfortable. Seat concepts made a nice seat for me and I'm good to go. Put on 33L givi trekkers and a top box. I have more storage than some small eco cars.

Jimmy K I love mine so much, 2013 model NC700S with now 80000km that I recently bought a NC750S. It was a necessary move since I need transportation but also prefer to do all maintenance myself. I have only positive praise for the NC bikes and I think they are unfortunately unappreciated by many. By the way also changed the oem seat by doing an upholstery job to eliminate forward slope. Safe rides and travels 👍🏍😊
You should try the 750 DCT version, totally different experience whilst keeping all the existing good ones (mileage, reliability, easy & cheap maintenance, dirt road cap., light etc etc). Mainly sportier (3 level sport modes shifting) feeling and NO rev limit encounter and endless shifting plus ABS and 2 levels of traction control, go try it! Bet you would grab it more often and more easily than a bigger and much heavier bike.

Michael, I'm seriously considering adding to the stable, and that consideration is based on the KLR. I would love to have a KLR for those days riding and knowing I'm gonna hit a bit of dirt. In Colorado, that is any worthy ride. If I were single, I would already have a KLR, alas, my money goes to a family, so the KLR will have to wait. I'm seriously considering going the other direction! I have a Concours 14 ABS and am thinking about trading it for an NC700X. The Connie is a fabulous bike and a lot of fun to ride. I ride alone, I want to be able to explore forest roads, and I want simpler and cheaper maintenance. Yea, the difference in power is huge! I also have a VTX1300R if I want to feel a little bit more power.
Somehow I missed this comment. Yes, it would probably be a good choice, I am thinking I want to go back myself. I would like to get the 750 if I can find one though.
I'm looking at a long trip that will include 600+ miles across Montana where I'll likely run 85-90. I've always ridden cruisers but want to go in another direction. Will the NC700X handle the speeds I mentioned for sustained periods? Thanks!
Hey SFG, First, that sounds like a fun trip, I'm a bit jealous. Second, I think the NC 700 could do it, but it would be right on the edge of what I would feel comfortable in pushing it to do. You will be in the higher RPM range most of the time at those speeds. I have one time in a controlled circumstance, not on a public roadway.... taken the NC700 up to 111MPH. I was wringing out every ounce of what it could do at that time. I can't say I'd recommend it. Up to 80, no problem, but any faster than that, and you may be pushing a bit too much. These are just my opinions, not facts, but based on what I remember about the NC700, this is how I feel it would be at those speeds.
I would recommend the DCT version of this, not because of the laziness of the transmission, but simply because the DCT version includes ABS. ABS is a feature I have come to REALLY appreciate on my new bike! DCT will also keep you from hitting the rev limiter, and it has faster acceleration than the standard transmission. I had the Standard, and wished I had gone DCT.
Nice video - I just bought a new NC and am thrilled with it. Its companion bike is a VFR800F, so when I want a 12000 rpm rocket, I can jump on the VFR. The NC is a nice switch-up, with a more upright riding position. I like ABS, but like shifting for myself all the more, so I bought the non-ABS model. I've been riding since the '60's, so still have a feel for non-ABS braking. Anyway, I hope you really enjoy the Concours. It's a gorgeous bike!
Thank you Steve, If I were in a financial spot to have both bikes, I would most likely ride the NC700X more often than the Concours, around the city, to work and back, etc. 2 up, the Concours all day long, and on long rides, I would prefer the Concours. And it is just fast... The NC700x was the perfect bike to get me riding again after not riding for 15 years. I wouldn't go back to only having the NC700X, but wouldn't mind having it, and the Concours.
I'm interested in getting an NC700x. Getting a bike this fall; buying used. I'll get what's available, obviously, but I looked on cycletrader last night and there's an NC nearby for $4k w/26k mi. My question is, could this be a starter bike? I'm going to commute and my commute could possibly be 80mins (GPS says 70) so I don't think I'd want to run a 250 at high speeds that long.
It would be a fine commuter. It is a great starter bike as well. 26K miles is nothing on these. The engine is designed very very well. I had just over 30K on mine when I traded her in, and it still ran like brand new. Keep up with the chain maintenance, and it will last almost forever, all of the maintenance really. I ran mine at high speeds loads of times. I bought mine 2 years ago, it was a 2012, with 12K miles on it, and I paid $5000. Almost had buyers remorse, as I think a paid a bit more than I should have, but all of that disappeared after a few months on the road with this amazing bike. It isn't fast, or showy, or fancy. It is a great utilitarian bike, and will go almost anywhere, and be more than reliable while doing it.
the DCT version of 2016 and newer paired to this engine of the NC750X you have a little more HP and great blend of power delivery with no shifting necessary so it makes the bike even more enjoyable. I find the power enough for the wife and I, throw it in S mode and you're set. It is a very good bike - you don't know what you have until you go sell it then regret it - that's how we take things for granted.
I agree we don't know what we have till it is gone. A good lesson for life in general. I do have to say though, the Kawasaki GTR1400/Concours 14 is like driving a space shuttle compared to the NC700, and I couldn't see getting rid of it to go back. Having both would be ideal! I can easily do 140MPH with my wife on the Concours. The NC700 would barely get past 100 with just me. Don't tell the wife we went 140, she knew it was fast but she had no idea. I'm left with mixed emotions because you really cared for that bike, but also understand why. The analogy of "like a deisel motorcycle" explains a lot!! Never heard of a frunk 🤣. I'm friends with a motovlogger with the automatic transmission series & she loves hers so I can't imagine the anguish you must have gone through making this decision. Glad you're happy with the new Kawi though!

It would be hard to go back. if I somehow were to come across a spare $4k, I would buy back the NC700x. the Kawasaki is soooo much faster though... I've had my NC700X for a little over a year and I enjoy every ride like I did the first. I don't foresee an upgrade in my future for a LONG time, but I did buy a used KLR instead of getting offroad tires for the NC. Just made more sense to me. Hope you enjoy your Concours.
Thank you, Kevin. The NC is a special bike for sure. The Shenko e705 tires were affordable and handled very well for me. Pilot road 4s were awesome on the NC700X as well, but not quite as good on the dirt roads.

Thanks. I found this interesting because I owned both of these bikes at the same time. Your assessment is spot-on. However, I found the C14 to be heavy and for me, uncomfortable. Mine also had a handlebar buzz at 4,000 RPM that drove me crazy. The Kawi is long gone but the NC700X soldiers on. I have done several 800-1000 mile trips with it and also have ridden extensively two-up on short hops. For all the reasons you mentioned, its a keeper.
oil change is easy but air filter not at all :) you need to take half of fairings apart... Other then that and poor suspension it's a great bike with very good, torquey engine.
That air cleaner wasn't too hard. I don't remember having to take off too much, yes there were a few plastics that had to come off, but compared to doing work on a fully faired bike, no comparison, it is still easy as pie. Thanks Wild One!

I own a 2015 model and love it , I am planning a cross country trip in the spring ! The only downfall is the seat , I will be re doing it with a gel insert and leather cover . Its ok for short rides butt not for over an hour ......
Nice video. I've had an NC now for a couple of months, thinking it was "just" a commuter, but I'm finding it is a great all-around ride. And I certainly agree that long distance touring is much better on your new Concours, I've ridden my VFR on dirt a few times and it loses all its incredible highway poise once the pavement is broken or gone. Similarly, I've ridden a touring version of a BMW GS and in my view the weight and high CG make it only marginally better in the dirt than the VFR. As to the power of the NC, I first found it off-putting, as it is like riding a diesel motorcycle, but once I became accustomed to it, I've found it has more than enough power for cut-and-thrust traffic maneuvering. If I want to go somewhere which requires a couple of hours on the slab, I'd probably take the VFR, but I'm fortunate to own two motorcycles - if I had the garage space, I'd probably end up with six or seven! Enjoy your Concours - that's a wonderful machine!

Fred, It is easy to tell. Just grab the brakes as hard as you can while going 100Mph.... kidding, do NOT do that! actually, the easy way to tell is a slotted ring on the inside part of the wheel in relation to the brake rotor. The lack of ABS is just a North America thing, in the UK the manual NC700X came with ABS.

Torque beast, revs to 6250, could use another 20 hp. Definitely a keeper!
I trade my GTR 1400 for the Nc700 when I got rid of the wife.
So, just the opposite. I scared the heck out of the wife with the GTR1400, she won't ride with me again, so I may go back to the NC700.

I have nc750x, fantastic bike but indeed riding 2up uphill is a bit challenging.
Exactly why I acquired the Concours. When riding 2 up, passenger comfort is paramount, and still being able to move!

I only have the financial ability to keep one motorcycle at a time. When that changes, the NC700 will be a top contender again for sure!

Fred, It is easy to tell. Just grab the brakes as hard as you can while going 100Mph.... kidding, do NOT do that! actually, the easy way to tell is a slotted ring on the inside part of the wheel in relation to the brake rotor. The ones in the USA only have ABS if they are the auto version. You lucky lads in Europe can have ABS without the auto trans.
HAHA f,, i nearley wetted maself,, ye its an A.B.S. model, sory for forgeting im just back from a run round lochness, and a ran onto gravil in a bend , im still no right yet,, lol, i didint come off, but damed me it was close, a big scare for a 62 year young guy. lol

it felt like little stones, its hard to aviiod the middle of the road when your doing 60/70. in a 45 mph corner

Mark Heinig yes, I think that is a fair assessment. I'm actually seriously contemplating getting another one.
