    Note: For the vines, make sure the solid (vine matte) that you're drawing the vines on is 100% black. Otherwise, you'll see the vines before they reveal.

    Watching your videos helps so much. I would've never added an adjustment layer for the vignette. I would've done the whole thing with masks.

    Guys, if you're trying to follow along with Stirk's tutorial be aware that he has labeled his Left/Right the wrong way around to begin with (which he realises at 7:30). This makes it really confusing if you're following along from the start because you'll not be getting the same results (especially if you skip the part where he realises the switched labels). I was trying to replicate how he had the layering and it meant I was flying blind when trying to do the first "Write On" effect because my Matte Solid was in the wrong place. At timestamp 6:30 when he first places his "Vine Right Matte" it seems to be ON TOP of Vine Right... because the vine layer sitting UNDER the matte is labelled "Vine Right" which is actually in reality the left vine . In actual fact the vine labeled "left" (which is in actual fact the right vine) is above not below (hence it will obscure your vine). If you realise this you can almost figure it out but it's amazing how one simple error can pretty much ruin an entire tutorial. If you figure this out though it then becomes quite a good tutorial.

      I usually redo tutorials if I realize there's a mistake now. I guess didn't think it would cause such confusion, but I appreciate if you're trying to follow along how even a small issue can throw everything off. Thank you for the comment.

      Correct! Because when a new solid is made and is on TOP you cannot see your layer beneath and then the tutorial doesn't make any sense at all. Thanks for helping!

    do we need a separate solid layer for each vine?

    • @CGStirk
      @CGStirk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it just depends on how much flexibility you want for repositioning them later. The elements I used were from two separate images, so I used two separate mattes. If you use one matte layer, then you have to use the Set Matte effect instead of a track matte, or precompose the matte layer and duplicate for the other vines. However, if you just use a single matte layer for multiple vine layers, and later you decide to move a vine, then the matte won't line up.

    • @CGStirk
      @CGStirk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      While it is possible to embed an mp4 into a webpage, I'm not sure how transparency would work if you wanted the vines to go over part of the webpage. The Animation codec supports an alpha channel, but those produce quite large files. You could try to convert the outlines into masks (vectors) then somehow convert an image sequence into an animated svg. Just thinking out loud. This isn't really my forte :(

      @Ludvio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @CGStirk
      @CGStirk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ludvio Sure, no problem. You could try to use AE's Auto Trace to 'vectorize' the animation, but I'm not sure what steps are needed afterwards.
