Thanks! I have some more introductory content if you're interested. Otherwise, once you know your way around the basic parts of the software, you should be okay.
Hi, I'm beginner in AE and I'm lost right at the beginning (@2:09) when 'we just take this metal tileable and put it in here' . How? It doesn't work for me. Cannot put the metal image into a precomposed layer. Maybe you pressed a shortcut? No idea. Would be great to see on the screen which keys you're pressing. Thanks
@@CGStirk I have no issue creating a precomposed layer. My problem is I don’t know how to drag the texture layer into the precomposed text layer. it doesn’t work.
You can only drag files from the Project panel into the current comp (or precomp, which is still a comp). You can't drag another Iayer into a comp from the layer stack.
@@CGStirk That's fine. I think you don't understand my question and I don't understand what's happening in your video. I'll try to figure it out by watching other videos hahahaha. Thanks for trying to help anyway
Sorry. If you're asking how to get the texture layer to show only over the text, you use a Track Matte. As of After Effects CC 23, Adobe changed how this works. Now, the order doesn't matter, so you just select the texture layer and choose the matte from a drop-down menu instead of having to have the texture layer directly underneath the matte layer. Feel free to reach out on Discord server if you need to post screenshots.
I love this! And Thank you so much for both the idea and the tutorial. Im using this for actaully Two words, one below the other. Took me a while to figure out how to do it but nonetheless TY.
This looks fantastic!, I'm planning to use this as part of my introduction on my TH-cam videos, quick question - my footage is of a record player on a table with a stainless steel top plate, but it is at an angle not flat as in your example, at what point should I create the angle? At the start or can I move the entire composition to the right angle when it's finished?
Thanks! I would just precomp all the layers shown in the tutorial, then on that comp use a Power Pin or Corner Pin to position it on the record player. As long as it's flat, you should be able to align it easily. If you need help, post on the Discord server.
The spark motion is controlled by the 'Explosive' animation type, but the 'Source Alpha Inheritence Option' with the matte also makes it appear to have more noise. Depending on the alpha source, the speed, and the size the of emitter, you're likely to get different results. Unfortunately, there's no way to add extra noise in the Particle Sytems II effect, at least not that I can think of.
@@CGStirk me again. I realized I asked the questioned with bad wording. I meant sound effects, not noise like when editing pictures/video stuff you can change the noise of effects. So how in the intro the words have the spark effect and the sound effects match the spark effect? Just like in the 3d inferno video the fire sound effects go with the flames. Hope this makes sense, thanks again for replying before. Happy holidays!
@@andrewd843 Ah, the sound is just a wav file that plays along with animation. It is synced manually, so nothing fancy. In After Effects you can simply import a sound file and slide it to where effects begin. I believe I did this in Premiere though, where you have much more control of the audio. Either way, you just have to find an audio track online, and sync it manually. It's not automated. Hope that helps. Happy Holidays!
Are you sure you're using CC Particle Systems II? Source Alpha Inheritance is only available with that effect. I'm assuming that's what you mean by subtracting the alpha.
Hey so, I'm learning after effects and am honestly a beginner. When you set the position of the spark effect at the beginning and had it move there are two things I'd like to ask. How did you get your position to be shown by a dot? I can't find it anywhere online. Also, when I go to move mine the rest of the way right, it ends up disappearing. I have three words for my effect. "Let it Burn." Thanks for the tutorial this gave me a great idea for this school project I'm working on!
To see the producer position dot, make sure you select the effect and that Show Effects Controls is enabled in the View menu at the top. If you turn on Source Alpha Inheritance, you must place the producer over pixels that occupy the alpha channel (e.g. the text). Hope that helps.
@@CGStirk That helps a ton! Thank you! I'm creating a cover with a partner of a song using kinetic typography. And this tutorial works perfect. Thanks for finding the time to answer me!
You can only see the particles after frame 0. If you're placing the particle effect directly on a text layer without any other copy of the text layer underneath, you won't see any text.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial! This has helped me out so much these past two days! Thank you so much!!
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
Concise and clear! I learned a lot in a short amount of time. Thanks!
Thanks. Glad you learned something!
I wish I understood after effects enough to follow along, but this looks like a great tutorial!

With the texture layer selected, you can press Ctrl+Shift+C or right-click and selet Precompose.

Great video! One question, how do I add the spark noise? I've watched a few now but can't figure out how to get noise for sparks to match the effect.

What happens to "Text Sparks" at 2:10? it vanishes
Apologies, that was an error. I duplicated the comp a bit later. I'll try cut that out in the editor

Whivh versions of after effects support this???
You should be fine with any version from at least CS5 up, I think.

🤣🤣🤣 I forgot humans blink
dude you go WAY too fast and use hotkeys and don't explain what you are doing. I had to pause the video and rewind a ton of times.
Sorry. I slowed down in my recent videos. At the time I was worried about attention spans since few people will sit through a 1+ hour tutorial.
