Im not even a Mini fan but i love watching Father and Son enjoying quality time together. Believe me, its the greatest gift you could ever give your Dad. Im so thankful my Son and i do joint projects.
Always find P and L minis in Rotherham cheaper for equivalent parts. Was also put off by the lack of interest and negative attitude of one in particular staff member at the Harrogate branch of minispares 😟

Great vid! I’m curious to know why you chose to leave that panel on where the shock mount goes on too. I noticed the new inner wing already had one on. So now affectively you have two (another layer of metal for rust potential). Also I noticed you cut off the top of the inner wing where it’d be spot welded onto the scuttle in the windscreen? I would have thought you would have cut the remaining of the scuttle out in the corner which you already started so you could weld it in its original place? I’m just curious to know why you chose to do it the way you did. I’m not saying it’s wrong or right. Kind regards, Adrian
Hi! Thank you very much 👍👍 We decided to leave the extra piece of metal on the inner wings to ad strength instead of boxing in the end of the shock mount area where it had rusted out. Original we did this to prevent rust recurring or to slow it down, but you have me questioning myself as to weather that was a good idea or not, probably not. Not the end of the world but maybe something that could be improved.
it's good to see someone rebuilding a min I built a mini clubman 1275 gt I loved it loads until someone to a liking to it and nicked it I never saw it again my pride and joy gone try and keep it original as possible .great video thanks steve

Rule number one. Always sit back and admire your work. The Nylon sanding disks that go on the grinder, brilliant things but I think you pressed too hard which is why it didn't last long. A lite touch with those or the heat destroys them.

Hi! I took a bit of a different approach to this area, as you’ll probably know it a known rust spot, usually nothing left in this area or very little. So I reinforced the area and left it open, there is an extra piece of plate on the inside of the inner wing that I left on also. Hopefully this will slow down the rust coming back. I will also waxoyl all the inside which I can gain access from the bulkhead inside the car.
Another great episode of the Mk1 conversion build. Really enjoying how this is coming along. It’s awesome to have your dad join you in the build. Loved helping my dad in the garage with his projects and then him do same with me. Hopefully I’ll have him on my channel sometime in the future. I hope Minispares have improved. I went several times to that branch and the staff were more interested on long conversations on the phone than serving a customer at the counter.

Good fit on the inner wing, is the scuttle panel being changed for the earlier mk1? Just thought it might have been a good time to replace at the same time as the inner wing for alignment🤔 Have you decided on a colour yet? Great job.
Hi! That a good point, we need to pick a scuttle panel up. We just wanted to concentrate on the left side but I may order that panel and have it delivered, as you say probably a good time to have it. Not totally sure on colour yet but definitely an original Mk1 colour 👍

Love this down to earth build, just makes you want to go out and by a heap of rusty mini, learn to weld, spend hours in a cold winter garage, learn to spray etc, etc., and that's just the body. Keep it up.
I've got a few projects sitting in and outside the garage, Midas Mk3 Gold, Mk1 Tigra and a BM 3 Series which I ought to get out of the way first but heho who knows.
@@upbuild4397 Many would have written off a shell that rusty and I believe doing so is a bad thing. I am toying with the idea of getting a classic car at some point but not of the vintage of your wonderful mini, I like the idea of a Fiat Coupe and I very much suspect I will have to do a lot of rust repair too.
