      Hello my name is Andrew,
      My father and I own a plumbing company. He is 2nd gen and I'm 3rd. We are well established and have tons of work. But we are not confident in hiring new people to come aboard. My father is already 65 and wants to retire. But I am afraid the demand is to high for us and he cant. Got any advice on this subject? Thank you

    Roger, Great videos. I was working for a city doing irrigation for the parks and rec and now I am starting my own business. Even though i know plumbing, i am doing strictly irrigation and love every minute of it. Your videos are inspiring and you speak the truth. Good job and it's great to see how passionate you are about plumbing & business. This is exactly how I feel about sprinklers. Im taking my state plumbing exam in march so now I could start to bid on new construction jobs. There are several large commercial contractors that are starting to reach out to me asking for my services. One thing that is going to separate me from the rest of the industry is the fact that i have my degree in Hospitality with over 15 years of five-star hotel management background. I am learning that having good customer service skills and friendly interactions with customers are uncommon when it comes to construction and trades, especially here in south Florida. Thanks again.

      I own my company and the good techs already have a job. Extremely hard to find good plumbing technicians. Something also very important, is that the people with the least amount of money have the worst plumbing systems. No one prioritizes there clean water/ hot water until there is a problem with it. But they got a $1,000 i-phone.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just bought some study guides for getting my plumbers license. I am making plans to study hard for the next few months and then take the tests. I would like to start my own company next year. I plan on getting a truck and focusing on residential service work which is what I have been doing for ten years now. My biggest fears are the business side of running my own show. I was thinking about hiring an accountant to run my books, as I am not skilled at doing this.
    Do have any recommendations for the business side of things?

    I’m 6 months away from having my 7 years experience out of ten up in New York. Meaning I would be eligible to take my masters here except I don’t plan on staying in New York much longer. I plan to move to ga next summer take my masters and go on my own. I won’t have any customers or contractors that give me side jobs and will have to start from scratch. Should I wait to take my test and get licensed after I work for a company and build relationships and customers there? I have been told a lot of companies don’t like hiring people that are licensed because I could steal work from them and pull my own permits. I wouldn’t do that not my style but is it just better for me to wait until I feel settled and ready to go it alone to take test. Or does it not make it harder to find employment being licensed anyone who has any advice it’s appreciated

    I have no plumbers now, just me running work trying to know when it’s right to leave my full time job...
    I will dig through your videos, hope to find bidding techniques. Thanks!!

    • @stephenharrington4621
      @stephenharrington4621 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no magic formula for bidding jobs. Consider what it costs you to run your business for a year (truck, tools, insurance, gas, salary, etc) then divide that out by the number of hours you will actually work in a year. There's your hourly rate. Now add your materials and you're taking your first step. Don't compete to be the cheapest. You're not going to win every bid. Good luck 👍

    I like how you have a video about how to start a plumbing business with no money, but you hired coaches, had 9 employees your first year, etc. These aren’t videos for someone who legitimately doesn’t have money, who have been working 6 years towards their masters with this end goal in mind, but are starting with next to nothing but their hard earned talent.

    • @RogerWakefield

I want bigger jobs and less running around I feel like I’m capping out I can only make about $700 a day...some months are better but I’ve never worked harder and longer.

  • @pjplumber2146

    Can you do a whole segment on why you want your plumber making enough to be professional? So many contractors out here jump down my throat for paying my lead guy 65 a year. I told him I only making 75. Then he shut up when I asked how much he made in 2020. They all bitched about lumber but when closing day come guess what ? They went and bought more wood. That was pennies compared to the new housing market profits. But suddenly plumbers can’t make a decent living wage that affords nice things to keep in good mood. We don’t have to worry about trucks breaking down or bills not paid on Thursday. That makes us a better worker. We can focus on work.
