Well done camera work on the Windshield install Jolene. Ages ago I was a Glazier's Apprentice for about 2 years, and put in hundreds of windshields. It was fun to watch these two gents go at it on this Oldsmobile. The rope was as least twice as large a diameter that was should have been used. We always cleaned everything pristine before starting, including the rubber gasket. We'd never use an oil derivative lubricant as if there was a gasket leak the caulking wouldn't stick. Hopefully it will seal up as is and you'll be golden.
hi chad-never put anything slick in the windshield groove-it will give it a place to come off the glass-place the bottom in to the car first and slap it in and down-pull the top of the glass and rubber down to seat the bottom. once the bottom is in; lube the inside on the rubber so it will slip in as you pull the rope-pull the rope about a foot at a time on each side until you get within a foot from the center-now pull both sides until the rope comes out. now slap the glass until it seats. I have been in the body shop 40 years. I am retired now and build hot rods. I really like your show and have picked up some great tips along the way. keep going and i will keep watching. Larry
When I was 13 years old my Great Dad taught me to drive on our Blue and White 1957 Oldsmoblile Super88. I loved that car and wish I owned it now. Jims Olds reminds me of ours but we had more paint and parts and interior on ours. They are a beautiful design inside and out and I vividly remember how much Torque that Rocket engine had and how nice and smooth the entire car was. thanks for the videos to remind me of the good ole days.
I'm glad Chad went out to see Jim the first time and got him back into being around other people, loneliness can be horrible. I like privacy and not too much socializing ,but I do enjoy talking to someone once in a while and connecting.
All my years working on old cars I have never put in a windshield. Very interesting to watch two very humble people work together to do this job . awesome content
Nice to watch. Reminded me of replacing a windscreen on my mk.1 Capri. Had completely forgotten the whole thing. My old dad helped me. We soaked the rubber in hot soapey water to make it flexible, passed a cord from inside to outside the car, and between us in went in like magic. Good times. Windscreen cost £5. Had to remove it from the scrap yard myself, broke the 1st one, pushed the 2nd one out with my feet. Think that was 1985. 🏴
Yeeee Haw !!! helping Jim put the windshield in the Oldsmobile ,,, what an absolute treat , the man is totally animated , him and Chad workin together is a Hoot ! They were having a time gettin her done , Thanks folks for bringing us along , and Jolenes awesome camera work catching all the action !
I really enjoy seeing Jim in the videos! So humble, honest and just seems like the people I enjoy most! Glad to see progress on your toy Jim Cheers bi!
Always love a trip to Jim’s place. Thanks for bringing us along. Looking forward to a reunion of Jim, Doug , Jolene and Chad. Love the giggles from Jolene and the chuckles from the boys. Thanks guys.👍👍🇨🇦
Excellent, Im glad you guys decided to do this today the tutorial is really handy, I just pulled the upper tailgate off my Hillman estate to strip and paint it and I'll need to refit the window when I put it back spare windows I have so Im not bothered about braking the glass other than the mess it makes
Chad & Jolene it was nice watching your channel today, I thought that was so funny when you started to tell Jim what end was up on that windshield and stopped lol. But it was nice that you guys stopped at Jims and helped him with his windshield, plus visited with him . People shouldn't be by themselves all the time it starts to cause depression. So I'm glad that you 2 visit him periodically . Keep up the great work and God Bless you both and your families. 💯💪🏼👍👍🙏🙏✌😁✌
We all mistakes like this all the time when working on stuff. It's just that the mistakes aren't filmed and shown around the world. Thanks for being the most relatable and real show in the history of "Reality TV".
I’ve found that rubber that has no cracks from drying out, can be boiled in a pot of water with a few tablespoons of real dish soap for five minutes. It will boil off dirt and soften the rubber, rinse and repeat. The rubber should now be more useable to put back in place. If storing when thoroughly dry, put in a plastic bag with some talcum powder and shake to coat, then seal in a new clean plastic bag.
Great of you to be there for Jim so he at least has something to look forward to as a friend in the two of you. Thanks for sharing your time with us again today.😁
Awesome to see you spending some time with Jim more of our generation shud be giving some time to the older generations we can always learn something from them and I nkow I would like it when I am retired good stuff keep it up
You all sure know how to spend a day! Great time with Jim, the Olds and the Cobalt. What is Jim always smoking? How about a gas-welding lesson or two from your friend...?? Thanks Jolene for the always great videos!
Glad to see you had a tiny bit of spare time to get to help a friend/neighbor/or someone who you met. I don't believe how much you have to pay for parts up there. Wish I could contact you and have a nice chat about parts. God bless you all and I hope you have a wonderful evening. Hopefully I will get to talk to you when you get some spare seconds and I'll have to patiently wait for the first time you get that doesn't interfere with family or work time! Till then May God bless you all the day and night. TTYL

Road trip to Jim's garage. Always interesting and a good change of pace.

Gentleman Jims Rocket. I've wondered how much trouble these 55-58 curved windshields were to replace.

Here we go another show from our wonderfully knowledgeable Jim. Great to see you again buddy.
I think your suppose to tap on the windshield on the curves to make sure its perpendicular to the flange so it sits right. I believe
Great to see Jim working on the Buick and great on Chad and Joline for helping.
I have to admit I skipped to the end to see if it got broke.. Another great Jim film!
Always good dropping by Jim’s cattle barn of cars and collectibles 👍
