- I obtained a copy of The Mystery of Mamo with all four english dubs of the film'; it's wild. Fujiko, in particular, is portrayed differently in each dub, Gemon is generally written badly, it was fascinating to watch.

It's quite crazy hearing Lupin go from Japanese Kermit to the Cliff Hanger voice to Porky Pig to Bob the Builder to Cú Chulainn and back.

Bob Bergen really did well acting as Lupin at that time. At the same time William Dufris did well than BBLC. Really gonna miss the guy who acted Bob the Builder.

I haven't watched the movie yet. I got absolutely no context beyond knowing a vague synopsis of the story and knowing most characters from the series. This is glorious.
Fun fact: Fujiko in the Manga dub was voiced by Toni Barry, who also voiced Moominmamma in the English dub of the 1990’s Moomin anime (The voice of Moomin himself, Susan Sheridan, also voiced a character in the Manga dub of Bye Bye Lady Liberty)

I feel like such a nerd that I can tell you which dub each clip is from. Still amazes me that this movie got so many different dubs.
best line in the entire collection of translations...Lupin in the found shack with food and water sees Fujiko fall in pain outside. he immediately forgets his promise to ditch the girl and Jigen says she goes or I go. Here's the line...Lupin says ah go ahead who needs ya go ahead and leave. then he picks up Jigen's hat off his head and says "I see your already packed".

The Discotek DVD release of the film has all 4 English dubs, including the Bergen one. Right now, Amazon has it for $25 and RightStuf has it for $18.71.

Nah. Lupin’s voiced by Tom Clark who does/did voice over work in Japan in the frontier dub. The essay that comes with the Discotek release explains it in proper (though I can’t find an online copy of it). No idea how people came to think it was Peter voicing Lupin besides maybe they sound similar but a lot of sites still list him as voicing Lupin despite that

1. It's because mutilple companies had the rights to the film over the years.
Dub A. Toho/Frontier. Made in 1980 to be played on airplane flights.
Dub B. Streamline. Same crew who made the first English dub of Castle of Cagliostro in the 90s with most of the same cast.
Dub C. Manga UK. Made for UK distribution in the 90s because they couldn't use Streamline's dub due to some legal stuff with Lupin's name at the time. So Lupin is called "Wolf" in this dub.
Dub D. Pioneer/Geneon. Made to capitalize on Part 2's success after the Adult Swim airings using the same cast from that dub(most of which are still playing the characters to this day.)
2. for each dub cast
Dub A. Most of them were early dub actors that really don't have too large a recognizable resume'.
Dub B. Most of the Cagliostro actors are here, including the current voice of Porky Pig as Lupin and OG Lord Zedd from Power Rangers as Mamo.
Dub C. US Bob The Builder as Lupin, Freaking Biggs from Star Wars A New Hope as Goemon, and few other UK based actors.
Dub D. Again, it's the Part 2 dub cast. This is the one you're probably the most familiar with.
