What an awesome collection of vintage RC's. I'm so glad the hobby has become more affordable for the masses and the cars now preforms so well. I would imagine that the cars you showed us are still quite valuable as collectors items.

The RC10 did not come with the stealth transmission. It was an adjustable ball diff and it was almost impossible to get the friction down and sucked bad, still have nightmares of building those. It was better than the Cox/Kyosho Turbo Scorpion or Tamiya Sand Scorcher so was an improvement at the time. The Stealth was an upgrade which was one of the first things you would do to your RC10 if you or your parents had the money. The Losi JRX2 is what had an improved diff like the stealth, Losi worked with associated designing the RC10 diff and improved it for the JRX2.

My first hobby grade rc car was 1982......The Tamiya Superchamp....universal axel joints... full floating damping suspension...fed by a shock oil reservoir.......full alloy gearbox etc....plastic was a mix if composite and metal mesh...
Great quality....540 motor....7.2 volt of course!
In the 1940's petrol engines were popular.....but no radio....just tracks or slots to run on.
    :--)
    Cool upload!☺

I loved building my own RCs even the shocks from scratch made you understand the HOBBY part. Changing springs and brushes on motors to rebuild and make them better. It's cool to go out and beat a Traxxas on the track with skill and understanding even though I own some Traxxas stuff you can get parts for the Associated stuff anymore so I you not to run them

My first hobby rc was a Tamiya Superchamp......got it in 1982 I think....7.2v...six cell......full floating dampening shocks...continuously fed from a bottle reservoir...with universal axle joints....wow...lol...
Ps...you had to build it from scratch.

I had a Thunder Tiger Silver Fox Gold Edition... Very Tough car... though chain stretch was a big issue... Was heavy, rather fast... I so regret selling it.. take out one front drive shaft and it became rear wheel drive for the burnouts...hahaha brake wasn't that great either.... It had such a presence on the shelf and when being driven. Makes modern 1/8th scale nitros look soft lol...thanks for the vid!!

That Thunder Tiger Silver Fox is really nice!! I still have the older one with green shocks prior to the Gold Edition you have. I ran it with the original Thunder Tiger .21 engine and then switched to the Magnum engine you have there. Man that buggy was fast! Not as nimble on the track as today's 1/8 buggies though.

"you go ahead and put your gaz-in" xD ohh Manitoba, been years since I've visited, but, hot damn do I still remember all the hilarious times we've had when hearing some of the ways you guys say certain words with that accent! great times!! been a bit over a decade since, I've heard someone from Manitoba saying "gaz", or "potatoes". when me and my family went to this market there was this festival thingy going on, and this dude was making curly fries & the way he pronounced *potatoes* made me my three sisters my mum and dad, ball our eyes out laughing. of course being a super friendly guy who loved children as well as amusing kids and adults, mainly he just loved interacting with people, *he kept saying it* each and *every time he'd use a thicker and thicker accent throughout the entire sentence, an than really ramped up the accent for potatoes!!!*
great time! lol random story but the way you said *gas* just forced a memory I'd forgotten about, right back into my mind! thank you for that!! *that was an awesome trip and have a lot of stories to tell people and my potential future children about now that Im remembering most of them, due to your unknowing assistance!!!*

The gold pan rc 10th didn't have the 3 gear stealth transmission, they had a 5 gear transmission. By the late 80s companies other rc companies were beginning to win against team associated rc 10 so they developed the much lighter and smoother stealth transmission, making the rc 10 dominate again. The rc 10 now is still evolving. Oh and there are now 5th scale rc cars with electronic fuel injection hydrolic disc brakes, abs and pilot assists.

Back in those days when I sold and raced RC You built and modded your cars, not buy em off the shelf ready to go. A properly well built car in the hands of experience ruled the tracks. Guys who were impatient and built crap cars were in the pits pissed off at the winning guys.

    • @afrog2666
      @afrog2666 6 ปีที่แล้ว

It`s still like that, nobody wins any serious races in RTR`s ;)
Gonne know your build and how you should tune it according to the parts you use, but unlike the "stone age", you can get parts ready made, and RTR`s are basically just for getting people into RC anyway, or for people who simply don`t have time to build.
I used to dislike RTR and ARF models, and was all like "the hobby can`t be enjoyed if you don`t MAKE your models", but I changed my mind :)

I had one on the track last year and I was running down a slash four-wheel drive and they guy asked you what I had and he couldn't believe it 20-plus year old truck was doing that to him. Nitro engines today are still very low-tec.The profits from nitro engines are huge they add and change a few thing but it’s still the same old stuff. If you ever plan to get into nitro racing expect to buy many new engines just to compete. it’s time for some 4 stroke fuel injected engines. My new snow blower is fuel injected so I think it’s time for RC.
