Typically when there’s new equipment installed and there’s a problem right away, always in the back of my mind it’s something simple. Such as a loose connection or just not start it up properly and something was skipped.
I had a service call later on one night on a brand new water source heat pump that was mounted above a security station that was tripping the high pressure switch. The only difference was the old unit ran off of R-22 And the new unit ran off 410A. Some people might wonder what would that have to do with anything but the 410a pressures skyrocketed. There was no drop ceiling below the unit and the ductwork sent all the hot air drifting back up into the return which was right there next to the unit causing suction pressure to go way up and head pressure to climb way up. To fix the problem I just had to make a few changes to the ductwork and units been running great since. I wish I could have shot a video but I did not have a good way to record with memory back then. Thank you very much for the compliment have a great day.

Years ago it used to almost instantly kill some scrolls. Some equipment such as Trane has a built-in phase monitor that will come up with a red light fault indicator and this will tell you to reverse rotation basically. I’ve had a few freq drives correct for the rotation on their own.

Now, some of these small RTU have a small VFD for the blower , I in fact just replaced 19 units on a Best Buy here in Chicago and they were all lennox with the VFD. The VFD straightens out the rotation in programming so looking just at the rotation on the blower is incorrect, you must check phasing at the compressor the blower goes in the right direction no matter how its phased.

@@Matrix13533 yeah it’s amazing the stuff we run into and neglect the equipment goes through not to mention improper installations/start ups. Some people ask me what’s the best equipment. And I would reply with.
      1. Is it sized properly?
      2. Is it installed properly?
      3. Is it maintained properly?
      4. Is it the right equipment for that application?
Once you get those factors out of the way, usually the equipment runs really well.
One of my videos where I’m working at an industrial battery plant they put residential equipment into that plant in which it literally would go down every month because the coils are plugged up or just can’t handle the environment.
They should’ve installed a “Lintern” brand which that is made for industrial applications.
A majority of the time that I see Equipment neglected is because technician simply cannot access it properly . If they can’t get to it, then they can’t maintain it so therefore it goes to hell real quick.

If the compressors were in the correct rotation it would’ve tripped on high head pressure. “With the door off”
Since they were running backwards they weren’t pumping refrigerant and had no SuperHeat to cool them. The panel being on may have helped a little too cool them. “ a little”.

Great video on how mistakes can be made at startup. I am a big fan of a checklist anytime a new piece of equipment is commissioned and I would think phase would be number one on the list. If the manufacturers would install phase monitoring relays like Eaton's D65 Series PMR it would eliminate problems like this and phase loss at anytime ( does it really add that much cost to a $10000 or $20000 RTU ?). I will take a little exception with you, at the start of the video you said it looked like a good install ( my exception would be the sediment trap installed at the wrong orientation. The ones with the missing doors at least had their sediment traps installed correctly).
Keep up the great video content👍

Thank you very much bob I appreciate the compliments and suggestions. Some equipment is already factory installed with these monitors and pretty much eliminates accidental screw ups. Trane On their packaged rooftop units typically have a phase monitor With a green / red light depending upon if it’s good or incorrect power phase. Typically when I rebuild a compressor I will use cardboard cutouts and draw up a small blueprint of that motor to put bolts, gaskets and other material in certain positions not to mention take photos. I wasn’t a real fan of that trap but my biggest concern was to protect the compressors. To make sure it is running how it should. I was only showing a demonstration taking a risk on damaging the compressors yes but to show people what it looks like if you run one in reverse. Also it was running for quite some time before that so what’s a few more minutes. Lol.
I often wonder how much that extra cost would be on an expensive piece of equipment by throwing an extra safety into the system or an optional upgrade? That would be something to ask the manufacture. Thank you very much for your comments I appreciate it have a great day stay safe.
