    Artist Daniel Dorall redesigned his 50m2 heritage small apartment in Melbourne's southeast to better utilize the limited space. High ceilings allowed him to purpose build a study area into the bedroom, that functions both as work space and as additional storage. Collections of books and artworks are deliberately grouped in compositions lending to the home's sense of visual balance. While throughout the apartment modernist concrete pieces and hacked Ikea furniture create the opportunity for recessed storage, and the inclusion of a small fireplace, allowing for a continuity that previously did not exist.

    While this space is large relative to the other apartments shown in this series, I think it's efficient when you consider the occupant's lifestyle. He creates a big emphasis on hoarding artworks and other nick-nacks, so unlike other small apartments, his priority isn't to cleverly store away his items but rather to put them on display and recreate an art gallery without making the space feel too cramped (which I think he's done perfectly). It also has a lot more personality compared to other apartments in the series, which are sometimes space-efficient at the expense of personal touches. This apartment is amazing in my opinion

    • @fdemey
      @fdemey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Even so, the space would appear larger without the massive concrete slab in the kitchen area. Not only does it weigh the whole interior down, it also looks bloody painful if you happen to bump against it.

    It is nice to see a small space filled with "stuff." There are people who are interested in living in small spaces who are not ascetics or minimalists. We want color and books and comfortable, cushy sofas. This man shows it can be done and it can be done well. Oh, and I love the fireplace.

      I perfectly agree, the too small apartment that are 30 sqm, they are nice and creative but too much hastle doing puzzles in your home, 50 sqm are pretty common, even here in Italy, they are not considered spacious but they are considered ok for 1 or 2 people living in it. So i find that having these beautiful videos and apartments of these sizing can inspire a lot of people that have an apartment of those pretty common sizing, changing things around and make the most out of it. My mom actually lives in a 50smq apartment and sucks, like really sucks, she and her partner don't have enough space and you I can't do anything without moving a lot of stuff around and bumping into things, so she made her mind to never move into another apartment that isn't at least 70/80 that is the average size, but this proves that even 50smq can be really nice with the right use of space. So i love this content, even more because it's more approachable, it gives inspiration and it's what a lot of people actually might live in.

    I really love the whole concept of this apartment, and the way how perfect the modern furnishing is complementing the ornate, classic building. Hats off for the island concept - magnificent piece - definitely a conversation starter. While there are details that will not resonate to everyone (from what I see in the comments), it is the owner's place, and the place must work for him, first of all.
    Excellent eclectic, warm, and homey energy - congratulation for Daniel Dorall!
    And Never Too Small - you're one of the few channels on TH-cam that I subscribed, and crave your new content like I was craving new episodes of Game of Thrones - but unlike that one, you never disappoint! :D

    This apartment is fantastic. I'm a civil engineer and I love concrete as an architectural material. The finish of this concrete is fantastic. The concrete bench is exceptional, I would have casted it altogether in order to avoid the lines at the connection point. Lovely details, like the wooden casing around the intercom make it superb. High ceilings and brightness is a very imprtant thing for me, this house has everything I like. Well done to the man, he created something stunning.

    Everyone is saying that this apartment shouldn't qualify to be in the series, but you forget that lots of the world lives outside of major urban areas and can afford bigger spaces. Many single people and couples I know live in 1-2 thousand square foot homes. Although this isn't a micro apartment, it's still a creative way of making a unique space work.

    • @IvanaHonda
      @IvanaHonda 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is not about being able to afford it, some of us do not see need for bigger space and that is fine. You have large apartments/houses even in urban major cities, at least in my country. Most people are saying this is not small in Europe, while it can be considered small in USA and some other places where people love to have a lot of space (is all that space necessary is debatable).

    • @breezeh1127
      @breezeh1127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is a micro space for my family. We need ever inch of space in our home. But there are 7 of us. So depends on family size too I guess. 👍

      This apartment is a regular size in Bucharest and throughout Romania. And usually here it has a separate kitchen and even 2 bedrooms. Even new apartments with 1 bedroom like this one, are build smaller T-T (don't ask about the price, as that's a different story; you could buy a house on at least 2 levels in France or Italy with how much you have to pay for 1-bedroom apt here. these people think they're building in New York or something >.> )

    • @matissehontebeyrie4811
      @matissehontebeyrie4811 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruh it's such not a question of being able to afford. A nice 50 square meter in the center of a any big city will be 3 times the price of a normal home outside cities.

    What an episode! I'm amazed by the clash of styles of the interior and the exterior. That ceiling reaaaaally makes the apartment look at least 20% more spacious. And I like the layout. Also, there are very interesting ideas and hacks composed in the interior. I do, however, dislike the amount of stuff in the space. But to each their own.
    Great episode, as always! Thank you for the great content!

    Very beautiful, clean lines, bright and welcoming feel about the whole place, the concrete is done exceptionally well. The original large bank of windows obviously is not the architect's design , nor are the high ceilings, but he has accented them well and uses them to their full advantage.
